Pros: One of America's finest imperials. Cons: Limited distribution area.
Sometimes, I like to have fun with beer. When you write about anything on a continual basis, you run the risk of taking it altogether too seriously, and a dose of levity now and then can be just what the doctor ordered for keeping things in perspective....
Pros: Intense flavor, an imperial stout for hop lovers Cons: I prefer my imperials with less hop. Seasonal and Limited distribution.
A couple of weeks ago I was in my local gourmet food store, which I only usually visit for the better than average beer selection. I was in the mood for a decent 6-pack for a ball game that night, which I chose, but could not leave without a full scan to...
Pros: Rich, complex mileau of luscious dark roast flavors Cons: Not widely available outside Pennsylvania
Imperial stouts are some of my very favorite beers in the world -- I just absolutely love the complex mileau of flavors that a well-brewed imperial stout brings to the table. One of the very best imperial stouts you can buy in the U.S. is the...
Pros: Powerful flavors, excellent texture and taste Cons: I am no longer in civilization.. must special order real beer
It's the weekend before the 4th of July and I have finally gotten settled into my new abode. I decided to celebrate in a most usual fashion, trying out a new beer.....
I managed to pick up some Storm King imperial stout by Victory brewing...
Pros: high octane beer with great nuance Cons: not for everyone
Having a fondness for stouts and porters will often time lead to a penchant for imperial stouts. This high octane brew originally made for the czar has become a great joy for a lot of American beer enthusiasts. The original brewers in England would...
Pros: High alcohol content (if that's what you're looking for) Cons: Flavor takes getting some used to
My first Epinions review in a year and a half, and I'm writing about beer again. Go figure.
It was December 31st, 2001. New Year's Eve. I'm looking to celebrate with something not of my usual ilk, be it Sam Adams' various beers or something of...
Pros: Tasty, very delicious, hoppy and nice dark color. Cons: really expensive, limited distribution
I spent $41 for a case of this today.. and wow this is worth it. I'm glad I got this. Pours an amazing pitch black color with good head. Aroma is of hops, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is of whole flower hops and really nice imported malt(even says so on the bottle) and it's really creamy too. The whopping 9.1% ABV content is more than enough to forget your troubles or cheer you up this holiday season. It tastes amazing and really hoppy with hints of chocolate and coffee found in most stouts. It packs a nice aftertaste which lingers in your mouth for minutes. This is a really rich and strong beer and should only be consumed in moderation. The major problem is that this is really, really expensive (cost more than regular micros and as much as most imports) and not widely available. But this is a must try for any beer-loving snob like me. BTW, you simply must have this warm to get the full flavor. Having it cold kills the flavor. Why have Guinness when you can have this???
