Pros: Fast, accurate scans. Good value, if the price is right. Cons: Won't scan larger documents accurately because of plastic case.
The Visioneer One Touch 5800 USB makes fast, accurate scans - significantly faster than my three-year old Visioneer 6100 USB. Two full-screen scans at 100 dpi take 27 seconds, at 200 or 300 dpi take 42 seconds, at 400 dpi take 70 seconds, and in the...
Pros: Speed is good, install is easy, quiet Cons: Very poor scan quality, crappy software, poor color reproductions
I picked up this turd on a free-after-rebate/coupon deal from Office Max. I had an old parallel scanner which had dodgy support in Windows XP, so I wanted to update to something a little more modern. It wasn't worth the $2 in tax. My hope is that if I...
Pros: Great Quality, Inexpensive, Fast transfers Cons: Lid doesn't lock
I've owned a Microtek E3 scanner since 1996 and have used it a lot. My Microtek was a SCSI interface, and as technology advances, it was time for an upgrade. I learned how great USB hardware is after I bought my Kodak Dx3600 digital camera (SEE REVIEW)...
Easily installed software, choice of twain or automatic, button operation...good reproduction and really fast scanning. The 5800 Visioneer replaces a 4400 model, and the size is identical. However, speed is considerably faster and the option of button...
I bought this scanner because it was only $49.95 and had a $30 rebate. Well, it is a piece of junk. Sometimes it would work, most of the time it would not. It would often quit in the middle of a scan for no reason. Other times it would show as...
Pros: Top cover removes for large items. Cons: Error messages; scanner won't work
I was really pleased with this scanner when I first purchased it 6 months ago. It was on sale at Office Depot for about $50. and had a rebate for $30. which meant I paid only $20.. I found it very easy to use and could get nice scans on jewelry and other...
Pros: sorry, can't find any Cons: bad drivers, software, etc.
I run windows98. I installed the software, computer locked up. With a reboot, everything's fine until I try to connect with the scanner. Computer locks up. I tried for several hours getting it to work, to no avail. I even downloaded the drivers from the...
Pros: The most worthless peice of crap ever manufactured. Cons: There isnt enough space here, be afraid, be very very afraid.
You want facts here they are..... This is my second, count that -2-, piece of crap 5800 visioneer. This worthless paperweight is sitting on my desk right now and the only thing it is good for is to keep my paperwork from flying away if we have an indoor hurricane.
The first one I returned because after 3 days it wouldnt calibrate anymore. Go to the website and see what kind of worthless tech help you get. None. no email address no online help but boy howdy they got a snail mail addy somewhere in North BUMF iretr UCK and they got a wonderful 900 pay tech line for you to use at a kazillion dollars a minute.
If that doesnt scare you, the second one I got ( I returned the first one) got it home hooked it up, worked the first time and hasn't worked since. Still won't calibrate. I have done everything they tell you to do at the website.
One of the worst pieces of crap ever put out to the public. Visioneer should be ashamed of itself for putting its name on this worthless piece of crap.
Pros: PRICING, SCANNER Cons: SOFTWARE, CUSTOMER SERVICE, HELP
Overall a decent machine. Set up and use is simple. Speed of scans is good. The big downside is the Paperport software which crashed frequently and also seems to create problems with associated programs. The Paperport software associates with all other document related software on the computer so appreciate the magnitude of this issue.
Pricing initially is good; however, the lack of any real help to fix the problems noted above including the myriad of patches which do not resolve the problem can lead to unforseen costs. Visioneer's phone customer service was worthless and not empowered to provide any real help. Their real purpose seems to be to move the consumer to their paid technical support. A simple call to the technical support can double or triple the consumer's cost for this product.
I would grade the product a B, the software D, and the phone service an F.
I love it except, for the "lock" -mess monster. by frannied ,Sep 05 '03
Pros: price, and user friendly. Cons: cannot find the updated driver; too convoluted to deal with.
I rate this 4 stars. This scanner does my 600 dpi and lets me crop and therefore enlarge. I love it. The only mess is how to update the driver. I had someone download an updated driver to unlock the virtual lock. Now that I am alone, I cannot remember how to do it. Otherwise, this is the simplest scanner wizard, magical ... price was right, too!
Pros: It is a terrific system for people who need to fix pictures Cons: The software is all but useless for actual art unless you are a photographer
The Visioneer OneTouch 5800 Flatbed Scanner is a great piece of equipment but the software that comes with it are lacking it is a great tool for people who just need it to fix up pictures a little but for people who do artwork to scan into their computer it is probably not worth even installing the software...you would just have to buy more and better software...that is all peace
Purchased two 5800 one touch... by artistic_dt3000 ,Apr 28 '02
Purchased two 5800 one touch units. Neither could be connected to PC. (although requirements
were OK), possibly due to unavailability of
required system device. This was not revealed
until trouble shooting, nor indicated under
"requirements" on carton. I was unable to reach
their "Technical Support" by phone on two occasions.
After 7 months of using,... by linda_dt3001 ,Mar 20 '03
After 7 months of using, I got "verify unlock" error message. I followed all instructed steps including uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, check the power, plug the power direct to wall instead of the power strip by VISIONEER web. I can not fix the problem. I submitted support requests 3 times via SARA. I called their support line which is not toll free for 3 times. There were no person. There is no toll free number to reach them. There is 900 number which will charge $1.00/min. I did not try this 900 number yet. Is it worth?
This is my 2nd visoneer... by doch44_dt3000 ,Aug 03 '02
This is my 2nd visoneer scanner the first was the 7600 I would never have replaced it but it will not work with xp and no updates are in the works. I bought and tried a hp 5370c it worked once then quit. This one went on without a problem and has worked just like my other one. I do a lot of photo work and have made many 8 by 10 from scanned 4 by 6 prints without a problem so for my money its a good deal paid 79 and it has a 30 rebate (if I ever get it) I hate rebates.
