a good choice for occasional use

by how2buy101 , Jul 07 '07
Pros: good cooling for its rating, noise not objectionable, robust packaging, decent manual
Cons: awkward vent hose forces unit out into the room, big, heavy, low efficiency
There I was, the hottest day of the summer and my central AC failed. Soonest repair was 2 days away, and outside temperature was approaching 105 degrees. I decided to buy a room AC unit and hole up in one room till I could get repaired. It would have ...

Decent but not fabulous

by jreiser , Jun 25 '06
Pros: good styling, good air flow, decent cooling
Cons: noisy, energy pig, doesn't cool as well as many smaller btu in-window machines
This was my second attempt at purchasing a portable air conditioner. The first one, an 8000 btu Everstar, went back to Home Depot because it absolutely sucked. I have to say that I kept the Whirlpool because it does a better job. It's 2000 btus more, ...

Pros: Cold cold air, directional air control; quiet
Cons: none
We live in NW Montana where humidity is low and temps are high beginning in July. Bought a swamp cooler first; it was worthless. So we bought this portable ac from Best Buy. Assembly instructions were a bit confusing but not too bad, once we decided ...

Best Cooling and Reliability with a few Considerations

by armidagilb , Jul 29 '07
Pros: Serious unit, actually cold air, dehumidifier, reliability, air comes out top where needed
Cons: Assembly required, outlet hose has to be duct-taped. Has to be moved for emptying.
With rooms in my apartment getting as hot as 90 degrees before the hottest part of the summer, I had to get some relief. So I researched all the portable air conditioners available, and found that most people who had tried more than one brand ...

Cons: Size, only comes in white, weight for transporting on stairs.
I bought this cooler online at Best Buy and then went to the store to pick-up for $379.99. I couldn't find a better deal even close to this place. The cooler is working great so far with no problems. The unit is portable with 4 wheels,2 handholds for ...

Provided a good night's sleep

by billnjax , Jul 13 '07
Pros: Rapid cooling, ease of set up, plugs into a standard outlet.
Cons: weight, does not roll well on carpet.
On July 11th, we came home to NO air conditioning in Jacksonville Fl. When I called the service people I was informed that they could not come out until the next day. When they did come out, the conclusion was that the HVAC system would have to be ...

Whirlpool ACP102PS - NO Complaints
by superdupermike ,Jul 14 '06
Pros: Powerful for its size. Appearance not offensive.
Cons: Have to drain water every 2 days or so.
This machine does the job. I looked at about 10 different machines before buying this one. I tried to find a Maytag unit that came highly recommended from this site, but Maytag AC has sold out to Whirlpool... so maybe good mojo with Whirlpool, I got my machine as an "open box" return and paid a cool 337 skins (always good mojo!).

I'm using it in a non-insulated 15x30 room (450SF) that takes direct sun all afternoon along a 30' side with big windows, a slider, and a deck. This machine keeps the room at about 75 deg F on a 100 degree day. Prior to having the AC unit, the room would reach into the high 80's on hot days and stay warm for hours after sunset. This AC unit does the trick.
