Pros: Quality /Great Warranty Cons: Pricey they should include a cover
When I got married 3 years ago I bought a charbroil grill that I thought would last about 3 years. Well guess what it barley made it. This past September I decided to take advantage of home depots 10% off when you open a store credit card offer. I spent ...
Pros: Sturdy construction, dependable performance, excellent customer support Cons: a bit on the expensive side, not at flashy as other grills
I don't have much to say as most people have already reviewed how great this grill is. I just want to throw this out there for people that might be in the same shoes as I was.
I believe all Silver B models come with a cast iron hood that is painted in enamel. I wanted a stainless hood, but I think you have to buy-up to the Gold class grill for that. At Abt Electronics, they sell the Silver B with a stainless steel hood. They advertise it as an Abt exclusive item. Not sure it it's true, but that's the only place I was able to find it.
Pros: good selection of heats for grilling tasks, durable,
very usable cooking grate surface size.
Cons: None that can think of
To say how like the unit, after 10 years it was
pretty much burnt out. Got the money out of that
one. Easy to use, whether grilling or using the
rotisserie. With the three burner could find some
configuration of burners needed for the task.
The case was still good after all the years,
grates, favor bars and drip pan were toast.
If had the convenience of Home Depot and lowes
back than would have just replaced them. Not
much else to say, just a good grill. Hope the
new one holds up as long.
8 year old Genesis B is wearing out by matodonnell ,Aug 27 '07
Pros: Good cooking performance when it was new Cons: Things wear out sooner than expected and replacement parts are expensive
I would have expected the Weber Genesis to be more durable than it has turned out, give the premium price. I've already replaced the original, cast iron grilling area and the flavor bars once due to corrosion. That's to be expected. However, the flame manifold has developed several leaks over the last two years that have caused significantly uneven cooking and flare-ups and has now eaten a hole through the side of the aluminum grill box. I could have replaced the flame manifold I suppose, but why should these things need to be replaced after 5 or 6 years?
For the price, I was hoping for a grill that would last ten years. I won't be buying another Weber to replace this one.
Pros: What it does best is COOK: quickly, evenly, and with consistent results. Easy cleanup, too. Cons:Seems pricey, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better value for your money.
After researching and reviewing grills in magazines and on the internet and in the stores, the one grill that was consistently recommended was the Weber Genesis Silver B. What really got me interested was the almost universal comments about the even heating. Got me to thinking . . . what do I really want or need in a grill? Pretty? Shiny? Heavy? Loaded with features I can brag about but will probably never use?
The answer: NONE OF THE ABOVE.
How about how well it cooks, how easy it is to clean up, and how long it will last?
BINGO!
This grill was rated the highest in all these areas, so I bought one. Best grill purchase I ever made. This grill is made to COOK, and it has features COOKS want - even heating, flexible heat control, fast heatup, no flare-ups, great BBQ taste when you're done. My wife is a clean up fanatic, and she thinks this is the easiest grill to clean we have ever owned (and we've owned a LOT in more than 40 years of marriage). Buy it, try it, you'll love it!
Very good, durable, and reliable by petey07 ,Aug 24 '07
Pros: durable, reliable, even cooking Cons: cast iron grate maintenance, but I like them
We bought this grill in May 2001. It is August 2007. It still works. I had previously purchased the "lowest and best" deals. But got the deal which lasted 2 maybe 3 years. I finally decided to spend about $350 on this Weber. This grill has been a great purchase. It has the cast irons grates, which I really love. They stay very hot and give a great sear to the food. I chose them over the porcelain. The drawback is the maintenance of the iron grates. You need to use a wire brush to clean them and then apply oil to them to prevent rust. I buy a container of generic shortening and apply it with a basting brush. It is worth it, though. I have not replaced any parts, yet. The igniter is just about ready for replacement. We use it about 30 times each year. No overly hot areas, fairly even cooking and the thermometer still works fine. I did buy the Weber cover, which I would highly recommend. Very good product.
The Best Grill in it's price range, with the highest quality. by fdmac ,Aug 21 '06
Pros: Assembly is child's play! Cons: N/A
The Weber Genesis Silver B Grill is by far the best value for the money. It has the most simple and highly effective design. It simply does what a Grill is supposed to do, it Grills beautifully. From the box to Grilling in under 30 minutes! I have never found a Grill that had a more even heating surface than this unit. Simply fantastic!
Weber, What else can I Say!!!!!!!! by avery3 ,Jun 20 '07
Pros: Great looks, Ease of use, dependable, Neighbor Envy Cons: Sticker shock until you understand VALUE
This is my 7th Season using the Silver B. Looks and works as good as the day it took me 30 minutes to put together. I use it 12 months out of the year in Northwestern Illinois and have never been disappointed. The Thanksgiving Turkey, New Years Prime Rib and Easter Ham all come out perfect. The summer time T Bones, Ribeyes, New York Strips, Pork Chops and Burgers and Brats all are great on the cast iron grates. The grates show some wear after 7 years but so do I. Clean up is a breeze, 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a year and you are good to go Don't be foolish and waste your money on anything less. The frustration alone will be enough to drive you to drink. But then a couple of beers are needed for any good grilling exercise.
If you've never cooked on a Weber, read this! by josephrob ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: Strong, even heat distribution, well made, great warranty! Cons: Will make you want to buy expensive cuts of meat!!!
I've been cooking for the better part of 20 years, and always thought to 'make due' with the cheaper, bargain basement BBQ's, available for a dime-a-dozen anywhere you shop. I never really considered that the BBQ would make that much difference to the overall cooking experience and/or end product.
WRONG!
I decided to treat myself and I bought a Weber Silver Genesis B. I actually bought it online. A courier delivered the Weber to my address two days later, and I set out to get it up and running. This was the simplest BBQ to put together that I've ever purchased. Period. After 10 minutes, my son and I had this baby ready to grill!
The first thing I noticed after starting it up, was how evenly the heat distributed compared to previous BBQ's I'd owned. And wow...talk about heat! I was not going to have any problems searing meat on this baby. It gets so hot in fact, the thermostat registers 600+ degrees two minutes after I start up the BBQ, and leave the cover closed while it's heating up.
Anyway...great BBQ, I would buy another one in a heartbeat....Grills food perfectly.
Pros: Plenty of BTU's.
Cast Iron grates if bought at Home Depot.
Killer customer service. Cons: Are you kidding.
Outstanding grill. The latest 2005 consumer reports actually rating this grill lower than in previous years. So, I went to Lowes and bought the little brother of their number one rated grill the Charbroil Commercial Series 1605. I thought with all the stainless steel and brass burners that the Charbroil would be a better grill than the Weber. The Charbroil would only heat up to 450 degrees, so after replacing the burners, regulator and temp gauge, I used Lowes Satisfaction Guarantee and took it back unsatisfied. Lowes took it back no problem. My next choice was the Weber and I wanted the Cast Iron grates that are only available at Home Depot. WOW, it pegs out at 600 degrees in about 20 minutes. There recipe book also makes grilling a breeze. If you have to call Weber, they answer the phone promptly and are a great help.
Pros: Quality of Construction and Reliability Cons: None
I bought this Weber Silver Genesis 7 years ago from Lowes for $325. I have replaced the 'flavorizer bars' from Weber (this summer) and nothing else. The grill has one feature that still works that has never happened to me before...the push button igniter still works, usually one push and ignition.
I grill a lot when home and also use the optional smoker box. I clean it completely at least once a year, sometimes two, and keep it covered. Anything that can last in the saltwater environment of the South is worth owning.
Heats up rapidly, temperature control is fairly precise, retains about 80-90% of my smoke, and cleans up fairly easy.
Pay the extra money, avoid the CharBroil grills completely, and go with the quality. You only get what you pay for. Good Customer Support and a great website.
Pros: Very nice grill to cook on. Easy to use and flavor is good. Cons: Grill will not light (even with a match) after 2 summers.
Grill would be great if the gas flow didn't suddenly halt after 2 years. Customer support said to clean it which I promptly did. I cleaned all the burners and controls even though they were not particularly dirty. This didn't make a difference. Now I am going to have to try to find a defective part and get it replaced.
Pros: The best for the price. Rugged. Reliable. Cons: None at all.
Have had mine for 5 years. Replaced a "high end" Coleman grill which was chipping and rusting after 1 month. I tried to cheap out by spending only $350 on the Coleman. Penny wise and Pound Foolish! $500 is inexpensive for a grill which shows essentially no wear after 5 years of hard use. We had an ignitor problem which Weber took care of for us for no charge. No other issues whatsoever. Love it.
Pros: Easy assembly, nice size cooking space. Cons: Not the largest grill available.
The Weber Genesis is a dream for anyone who enjoys grilling. It is easy to assemble and has some very nice little extras. I highly recommend it if you are in the market for a new gas grill.
