Pros: Light weight, easy to start, easy to change out line spools, low cost Cons: Slight balance issue. May not be durable.
Here at the Weyr we take our gardening seriously. When one's garden can be measured in hectares it ceases to be something that can be tossed off in a few hours over the weekend and becomes a nearly full-time job. Not that the job is onerous; the right...
Pros: "Featherlite" is the truth, easy of use Cons: You'll get dirty, but what weedeater is clean to use?
I've been a homeowner for a year now, and I mow and edge my lawn about once a week. I'm cheap, too, so instead of buying an edger for the driveway, I've made my new weedeater pull double duty... but it is up to the task. I purchased my weedeater about...
Pros: Easy to start. Speed control via trigger. Cons: Poor design. Horrendous 'customer service'.
Whenever I purchase a product -- any product -- I do my homework first. I read reviews online, giving weight mostly to customer reviews rather than editorial reviews. Both Consumer Reports and Popular Mechanics gave this 'tool' high marks and ...
Pros: Very durable for residential use, easy to control Cons: Not meant to be used as professional/commercial weed eater
This weed eater is easy to start in one or two pulls. It has a removable plastic shield that can be easily removed from the string trimmer head, allowing the owner to use it as an edger.
Having a straight shaft makes it easier to use and...
Pros: lightweight, economical Cons: Not long lasting
I question some of the reviews as being manufacture generated because when I had to take my unit to the local Ace Hardware for repairs they corroborated MY findings and these are that the unit vibrates excessively, often difficult to start. My primary ...
Pros: Really there are absolutely no pros. One will occur when I get a different trimmer. Cons: This unit is huge con from start to finish. Nothing good to say about it.
I added a comment on to goodday1952's Review, which covers most of the problems I have encountered with the unit. I just wanted a chance to rate it on my own. It starts poorly and fouls the strings often resulting in constant disassembling during use. This unit is pure junk. Since mine doesn't even start well, it has earned the lowest rating possible.
Pros: Lightweight
Easy to carry
Nothing else that I can think of Cons: Jerky pull cord.
Nothing else that I can think of.
In actuality, I couldn't start it at all.
I called the company and they sent me to the service dealer.
They said it was cheap, so what did I expect.
I had to take it back where I purchased it.
Pros: its light Cons: After only 10-12 hours of use, the only thing in tact is the engine.
The Weed Eater Featherlite was purchased in June of 2006 and was used the entire summer season. Average run time for each use was about 20 minutes, plus or minus. Overall seasonal run time for last year was aproximately 3 hours. 2007's mowing season has a run time of about 3 hours so far. The Featherlite was found to be a reluctant starter this year. Fuel Stabilizer is always used in our motor products. Now, after running just a mere 10 minutes, the handle gets very hot and loosens up from the motor body. Upon closer examination, it is found that the plastic housing has melted around the aluminum tube where it meets the housing. After only one season, the engine runs, but the aluminum spring inside the tube has seized and will not turn. There are no user serviceable parts on this part of the unit.
Pros: Lightweight, easy on the back, fuel miser, starts easily Cons: Line breaks too frequently
I love this thing.
Starts easy, runs perfectly and is easy to maneuver.
I have a heavy weight trimmer that I use for the really big jobs, but for general light trimming the Featherlite SST is the best tool I have.
I have extra spools to counter frequent line breaks.
Pros: Inexpensive. Cons: Doesn't work. No support from the manufacturer. Very, very difficult to get your money back.
I was a Poulan fan for years, using their product exclusively. Recently, I replaced a worn-out unit with the 25cc Featherlite. Big mistake!! Poulan cannot explain why the unit doesn't work but, after changing out the first purchase with a floor model, taking the second in for service (after 4 days of non-working ownership), I'm convinced the whole line is defective. Service/support from Poulan is terrible too. Finding a resolution to problems is left with the customer. I was told by the store from where I purchased the unit that my problem isn't the first and probably won't be the last. Why didn't they tell me this before I actually purchased it? The problem? It won't stay running. It requires 40-50 pulls of the rope to start too. It's a terrible excuse for a tool. Save yourself the headache - purchase another brand.
featherlite weedeater still going strong after five years of abuse and neglect by dissturbbed ,Sep 05 '07
Pros: long lasting, starts everytime, durable Cons: fuel line and fuel pump bulb will need to be replaced after the fifth year
still going strong after five years of abuse and neglect, i bought this weedeater at walmart for 70 bucks five years ago and it is still going strong, i have an acre of land with plenty of trees and garden stuff that needs weedeatin so it gets used quite often, i thought this thing was going to fall apart the first month i used it but this thing has surprised me and out lasted my friends huskavarna, i even used the wrong string for it making it unbalanced and i thought for sure this would tear it apart but so far so good
Pros: Cheaply Priced, extended gas usage, Easy start up, Easy to respool, light weight! Cons: You don't have one yet!
I needed an affordable weedeater & found this one at Sears cheaply priced so I bought it & if it broke today, I'd buy another one just like it! Just prime a time or two, choke, pull one time, unchoke, starts right up then one pull starts the rest of the day. Very light weight, won't wear you out like heavier brands. Excellent gas usage time, I have a half acre with ditch lines and one tank does all my trimming. Buy one, you will be glad you listened to me.
Pros: Ease of use, durability, lightweight, performance Cons: It's not the machine, but the dang string... never make them strong enough.
I have had the same featherlite weedeater for over 12 years. Now, I don't know about the newer models, but my machine has NEVER failed me. Easy start, light weight, fine job with trimming steep embankments, etc. I have a heavier duty Craftsman Brushcutter for the "back 20", but I still prefer my weedeater. It's the most proficient machine in its class. I'd replace parts before replacing the machine, and I've never had to do that. In fact, I think it still has it's original spark plug! Don't go on my word, try one for yourself!
Purchased this product from local Big Lots for $50. Followed simple instructions regarding fuel mixture and startup. Not even a spark. Called 800 number for trouble shooting purposes. "Call during our normal business hours Monday through Friday...". Not much help on a late Sunday morning. Tried old engine trick with lighter fluid. No spark. I suppose I could regap the spark plug, take it a "certified mechanic" as to not void the warranty, carb adjustments (needs a proprietary tool that I do not have). Just going to return the product for another product by a different company. Waste of 3 hours of my Sunday morning.
Pros: Cheap..I guess you get what you pay for Cons: constant problems with the pull rope
I don't have a lot of luck with these things.. Seems i always pull out the rope...I usually have to buy a new one every season..I think my next one will be a battery operated.
