Wild, Weird And Wonderful

by coldsteel7 coldsteel7 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Movies, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 23 '09
Pros: Maintains the visual feel of the book.  Excellent special effects.  Bright young actor.
Cons: Some characters tedious.  Some changes were not neccessary.
I was uncertain whether I would like the screen adaptation to Where The Wild Things Are.  It seemed like a stretch to make a feature-length film from a picture book that could easily be read in just two or three minutes.  It is difficult ...

Pros: Good performances, especially Records and Gandolfini, good story
Cons: Not as wild as advertised
Max is a kid who loves to play and daydream. He doesn't understand why his mother and his sister don't participate in kid activities with him more often. One night, when he grows tired of their inattention, Max runs away from home. He takes a boat and ...

Parable of Childhood Psychology Comes to the Big Screen

by andaryl andaryl is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Movies, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 17 '09
Pros: Great message and creature effects
Cons: Slow pace
Where the Wild Things Are (2009) At 338 words, Maurice Sendak’s “Where The Wild Things Are” might seem like something of a lean effort.  It has since become a highly acclaimed work and its visual style and themes of ...

by carstairs38 carstairs38 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Movies, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 19 '09
Pros: Visuals and acting
Cons: Slow story that ultimately leads no where
So, a few weeks back, I took a second look at the picture book version of Where the Wild Things Are.  I knew the movie was coming out soon, and I wanted to refresh my memory of the original.  I was ...

Decent film for adults, not a film for children

by paulsavage paulsavage is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Movies, , Nov 04 '09
Pros: Mature storytelling general mood and theme
Cons: If the movie was meant for kids, it fails entirely
Max is a child just slightly past the age where living in his imagination isn’t considered weird. Given that he is essentially friendless, he is driven even deeper into that childish landscape. His sister is a teenager in the throes of that ...

Beautiful But Despairing, Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are Revels in Primal Ferocity

by bilbopooh bilbopooh is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Movies, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 21 '09
Pros: visually astounding, personalities of the Wild Things fleshed out, Max Records
Cons: steeped in existential despair
When I first saw the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are, Spike Jonze's big-screen adaptation of the classic Maurice Sendak book, I was immediately impressed by the visuals, as young Max and each of the Wild Things he encounters seems to have ...

Pretty Tame.

by JiggyJay Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 16 '09
Pros: Max, animation, design,
Cons: Script, music, no real push to get to know the characters, may frighten kids
Here's Hollywood's next attempt at turning a short children's story into a full-blown film with a heart for families to enjoy, but is this formula starting to wear thin? Did one of the most beloved children's books of all time get caught in the ...

Pros: Jonze's Direction, Script, Cinematography, Art Direction, Visual Effects, Music, & Cast.

The 1963 children's picture book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is considered to be one of the greatest books in children's literature. For years, readers read the simple adventure of a wild boy named Max who was sent to his room ...

The Wild Ideas That Kids Come Up With MIght Come True Sometimes.

by badbonz0007 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 09 '09
Pros: Will make your kids laugh.
Cons: Hopefully this movie will not give your child that behavior like this will be tolerated.
I know that this movie has been out for a while now but I like waiting to use my five buck card to go and see the show that way if I am disappointed I am not out that much money. So I decided to surprise my daught4er with an afternoon at the show. I have ...

Relationships Are Still Complicated “Where The Wild Things Are!”

by wlswarts Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 15 '09
Pros: Imaginative, Well-acted, Special effects, General level of character
Cons: Intrusive soundtrack, Pacing
It is a rare thing that I go into a movie aimed toward children and I like it, much less like it more than my partner. In fact, it was a real stretch for me to even go and watch "Hotel For Dogs" (reviewed at: ...

Bite Your Mom. Then Go Play.

by arguablysamson , Oct 22 '09
Pros: Creative, imaginative, faithful to the meaning of the book, well acted.
Cons: The movie needs to find an audience to target.
From the outset, let’s establish two things; first, though it happens to focus on one particular kid, Where the Wild Things Are is not a kid’s movie. Monsters eating people and leaving around their bones and ripping arms off is not ...

Better the first time I saw it... when it was called The NeverEnding Story

by vaughnf , Oct 17 '09
Pros: Strong visual effects and costumes
Cons: Lacks motivation, excitement, entertainment value, meaningful dialogue
Sometimes you just know that the voice of supporters is going to be particularly vocal. This is especially true when you upset those sporting corduroy jackets over t-shirts and black plastic frame glasses. Naturally, this is one of those ...

A boy and his adventures in imagination.
by naruto007 ,Oct 13 '09
Pros: Visually stunning with a great soundtrack.
Cons: The movie was really slow.
I went to go see this with my wife. The visuals are amazing, but the story felt really slow-paced. Also, they seemed to have changed the story where it begins and ends more or less the same, but the body of the story just didn't have the same feel as the book.
