Pros: Attractive design, easy to operate. Cons: Other consumers have reported venting issues.
I recently moved into a newly constructed spec-house. My builder selected the appliances for the house, so I did not have any input into the decision making. The kitchen was heavily upgraded on this house, with a Moenstone sink, Whirlpool Gold ...

Pros: Microwave functions work fine. Cons: Venting fan is noisy and does a poor job of venting.
We bought this over-the-range microwave as part of our kitchen renovation and had it professionally installed over our oven. One of the factors in choosing this microwave was the low price. The microwave functions work fine and as described. There is ...

I have a lemon
by manicsquirrel ,Nov 27 '07
Pros: The stainless steel finish is nice on the MH1170XSY. Cons: The vent is inadequate. However, I don't have it ducted outside the house either.
One week prior to the warranty expiring, the magnetron went out in the microwave and the unit stop heating food.
A professional local authorized repairman examined the unit and had the replacement part in about two days.
The unit worked fine for about two more weeks and I am now waiting on a third magnetron.
I sure am glad it was still under warranty. However, every microwave I've ever bought has lasted until I threw them out for something else - years. My parents still have their 25 year old microwave. I expect one to last a really, really long time.

Useless Exhaust Fan
by jalevin123 ,Mar 17 '08
Pros: Large interior and very attractive Cons: Useless Exhaust Fan. Poor Customer service, with no intention of correcting a poor design.
MH1170XS, Large beautiful unit, with 3 noisy fan settings. I noticed that even with the fan at the highest setting, when cooking, all the steam from the cooktop is rising on to my new cabinets. I called Whirlpool and a tech was sent out. He is a contracted employee, not working for Whirlpool. He agreed that the exhaust was useless, but if you cover the vent completely with a piece of paper, it stays covering the vent. That he said was all it had to do. If you pulled the paper from the vent just a little, it completely falls off. When I called Whirlpool back, they said that no warranty is implied as to how well it works. They pointed out that I should have researched this first. No help. I never had this problem with any other Whirlpool microwave (I've bought 3 different ones in the past 3 years for different properties. I will not buy their appliances again due to their snub attitude. I had a minor problem with a KitchenAid stove top, and Kitchen Aid did everything to fix it, above and beyond my expectations.
