Wu's Open Kitchen Restaurant

Pros: Great Chinese food prepared fresh to order.
Cons: higher prices than some competitors

Living west of Portland and loving Chinese food, I've
sampled most of the restaurants. Chen's Dynasty on
158th recently closed down. Canyon Pearl on TV Hwy.
has many good items. But by far, my favorite for
Chinese is Wu's...

Pros: Fine sauces, very fresh, good quality
Cons: Pricey but the food is well worth the cost

Since my experience has only been through take-out I am unable to critique the service or atmosphere. I can vouch for the food, however.

The vegetables were high quality and cooked just until tender. The sauces were distinctive and subtle....

Pros: Our lunch was excellent and freshly prepared.
Cons: The service was not up to par.

I work in the food service industry as a bartender, and have done a great deal of food service as well. Our order was promptly taken, but the server did not ask us if we cared for any beverages other than the tea served at the table. The food arrived...

Pros: Well-prepared food. Nice atmosphere. Speedy service
Cons: Dinner prices are high. Menu isn't particularly adventurous.

A trip to Wu's has never left me unhappy - the food is delicious, and the service and atmosphere are terrific for a suburban Chinese eatery.

The "Open Kitchen" (you can see the kitchen, complete with flaming woks, through glass) adds nice...

Pros: good service, complimentary tea.
Cons: overpriced, bland entrees, open kitchen concept not worth it.

I had wanted to try Wu's for quite awhile, as the Aloha location was one of the closest Chinese restaurants to me that I had not yet tried. For our party of three, not one of us ordered a good dish. The sweet and sour chicken was neither (it was a hypnotizing neon red, however), the shredded chicken and garlic seemed to be lacking the latter, and my own 10 ingredient pan friend noodle dish was drowning in a blackish-brown sauce that could only be described as having "sauce flavor." I could not pick out what flavor it was supposed to be for anything (this was not to say that it was bad, simply bland). The service was great, with a very attentive staff. Some pros included complimentary tea and orange slices with the fortune cookies. This was not enough to make up for the high prices, however. My favorite west side Chinese will continue to be Dancing Dragon on Cornell in Hillsboro (amazing eggflower soup).
