by Susie-34668 Susie-34668 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Wellness & Beauty, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Jun 17 '05
Pros: Spotlessly clean. Almost empty each time I went.
Cons: More expensive than other fitness centers in our area. No pool or spa.
When Len changed H.M.O.',s it included a SilverSneakers pass for several of our local fitness centers/gyms. The closest one to our home was the Y.M.C.A. About 4 weeks ago we both went in and he filled out several pages of forms. The final one ...

You're ALWAYS Welcome at the YMCA

by ktryathart1 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, May 03 '03
Pros: To build strong families, kids and community in a Christian environment this is the place!
Cons: Some programs are extra charge over the initial membership rates.
My four sisters and I have been involved in the YMCA for about 15 years. We all have or had memberships and one of my sisters also works there. And of course she is probably the most fit of all of us. At 44, she has only gained 6 pounds since high...

by joylein , Mar 14 '05
Pros: Great variety of equipment and fitness programs, great value
Cons: May seem expensive to some...but worth it!
I am a sometimes fitness buff. I go through spurts (usually over the course of a year) when I am all about getting fit and staying lean...only to eventually falter. I have so many excuses that it is pathetic. Here are a few of my personal favorites: ...

A decent gym for the money

by snats , Apr 09 '08
Pros: Good equipment, clean and inexpensive
Cons: A limited class selection, pool and locker overcrowding at peak times
I've been a member of Vanderbilt YMCA on East 47th Street (we are in New York now) for about ten years, and I find this place quite acceptable: it is clean, has some nice classes and offers good equipment, as well as two swimming pools - all for a ...

I discovered the "Y" at a very young age..and still LOVE it!

by bablondie25 , Mar 05 '08
Pros: Inexpensive, many things to do, family-friendly, pools, friendly people, daycare
Cons: Sometimes they lack staff or buildings/machines get old
I discovered the YMCA at a very young age, not sure if I was 11 or 12, but I lived in a small town and I would walk into the "Y" as we call it and buy myself a monthly pass. Back then (20 years ago) I could buy a monthly pass for around 13$ if I remember ...

The "Y" doesn't have the resources that serious athletes need

by bgarrettson , Dec 26 '03
Pros: good for families or people who are just trying to fit in exercise
Cons: not suitable for the serious athlete - lack of important equipment ... inexperienced trainers
The YMCA is the perfect fitness center for those who are only interested in toning their bodies or just trying to fit a little bit of exercise into a busy schedule, BUT for athletes who are intensely training for a sport, the "Y" may not be the answer. I ...

Pros: Price is getting better, opportunities abound
Cons: Price still a little much for a community facility

KETCHUM YMCA DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES THE WORST!!!

by josecitos_girl , Apr 16 '07
Pros: Nice views from their many windows
Cons: NOT a gym -- a charitable foundation that uses "members" for their "shakedown database."
I have been a member for 19 years. The first 9 were amazing -- best gym in LA Metro area. The management changed 10 years ago and it's gone to pot. I'm an aerobics fanatic and there are almost no classes now, the teachers are unqualified (anyone ...
