Solid choice for a good old fashioned, simple unit!
by silverhair ,Jul 09 '07
Pros: Lots of power and inputs! Phono, XM and EQ friendly. Cons: Cost was a bit high ($480). Hard to find, and find in-stock.
I just got my RX-797 and love it! Great, tight sound. I bought the unit for my rec-room, and have no need to do any home theatre stuff. Lots of power, low THD, and a bunch of inputs to include phono, and XM (if you buy the antenna/subscribe).
Connections were easy, and the pre in/out allows use of my trusty Yamaha GE-3 EQ. I also can drive my 4-ohm ARs with this thing!
Not many choices in this segment. And not much of what is good is in-stock. I had to wait nearly a month for mine to arrive at my local Tweeter store. But the unit was worth the wait! It would be a stand out if there were 1000 choices...
If you buy this unit, consider buying from a Yamaha authorized dealer. I believe only they can honor warranties & do repair work.
