Pros: Sounds amazing, easy to set up, no messy wires all over the room Cons: none so far!
Seriously like freakin’ wow. I don’t mean wow in a classic, “man, that’s awesome way” I mean, wow in a, “there is no way to describe its awesomeness in words and so my jaw drops slightly and a brief gasp of air escapes that sounds something like wow” ...

It is a pretty amazing system
by thefranktate ,Jan 04 '06
Pros: Works as advertised
NO SPEAKER WIRES!
Great sound Cons: Extra subwoofer required
Not ear-bleedingly loud
I just got mine delivered today - unpacked it, plugged it into my DirecTV receiver and plugged in a subwoofer (Sony SA-W700, which is a GREAT sub, especially for the price) and it was ready to go. The surround effects, amazingly, actually work as good as Yamaha claims. Just playing with the different effects, I can actually hear the left and right rear speakers as if they're behind me.
I DO have a fairly square room, but I sit off to one side, and the effects still work, though not as completely as when you're directly in front of the unit.
My goal in purchasing the YSP-1000 was to have a surround system without all of the wires everywhere, and that's exactly what it provides.

Yamaha ysp 1000
by jaames6 ,Sep 05 '06
Pros: good looking, great sounding and only one enclosure.
Cons: could have more inputs and outputs.
It is amazing to me that there seems so little press on the ysp 1000. It's the perfect solution for someone who wants great sound- but no wires running all over the place. It also gets top marks from spouses. listen and watch In the Shadow of Motown to appreciate.

Highly Unsatisfied - Incompatible w/ Receivers
by drinxx ,Jan 27 '06
Pros: Looks nice. Easy to set up. Cons: Canny audio. Can't use with existing receiver. Not worth the money.
I was ultimately dismayed that the YSP-1000 could not be connected to my existing home theater system. You are required to connect your components directly to the YSP-1000.
I was also disappointed to find the sound quality to be mediocre. No matter what sound profile I choose, the audio comes out with somewhat of an echo. For the price, I think I would have been more satisfied buying $1000 worth of Silly String.
Also....The speaker is much heavier than it looks. It's also about as wide as the average 42" plasma tv. If you plan to mount it on a wall, make sure you have some really solid studs in there. You don't want this puppy falling off the wall and smashing down on the rest of your home theater equipment.
One speaker surround.....It sounded like a great concept. However, I think there is still work to be done before they perfect it.
I will probably take a loss and pawn it off on eBay. I don't recommend wasting your hard earned money on this speaker unless a Yamaha rep is standing beside you with a gun pointed to your head.
