Pros: Concise, fast-moving, yet detailed narrative concerning a War about which EVERY American should know
Cons: Because of the layout of the book, locating specific facts is slightly time-consuming (see my notes)

Summary: Sherman. Booth. Antietam Creek. We remember the names from our seventh grade history class. A few of us can remember the horrific photographs Mathew Brady and assistants took. But when the names, faces, events, and ideas of mid-nineteenth century ... read more

Pros: Good Introduction for those unfamiliar with the Civil War.
Cons: A little shallow and simplistic in ways that the nature of the book doesn't justify.

Pros: Easy and fun to read
    Cons: Slightly erratic Layout

Summary: I first picked up this book because I had to do a term paper on the Civil War. Davis' book quickly became one of my main references. It is a mix of facts, stories, quotes, and summarized timelines. One of the things I like best about this book is that it ... read more

Pros: Very thorough; full of information that's easy to understand
    Cons: None!

Summary: Kenneth C. Davis has done it again. The author of "Don't Know Much About History" and "Don't Know Much About Geography" wins a third time with "Don't Know Much About the Civil War", an entertaining and honest account of the ... read more
