Pros: The author includes inventories to help us understand where we are individually in the marriage. Cons: The author kept making the same points in different ways.
My husband and I both love to read especially books about marriage. This book is definitely in our top 10 because it helped us to see what we each truly need. I had heard at Weekend to Remember (a Family Life marriage conference) that men need respect but the importance of that need didn't really sink in to me until I read this book by Dr. Eggerichs. It helped me to take a good look at our marriage in a whole new light. I was able to see that by respecting my husband (which includes not acting against his decisions out of spite) I can build him up and he is nicer. :-) This book revealed the areas I was not respecting my husband. I was not even aware that I was doing these things. After reading this book we are able to more clearly communicate. Most of the time our discussions stay civil rather than blow up into a screaming match. I also bought this book as a wedding present for a friend last year because it was so simple yet profound.
