Pros: The series continues... Cons: That and everything else in the book.
As the latest in the series featuring Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta opens, Jean-Baptiste Chandonne who wreaked havoc in her life sits on death row in Texas. His brother known as Jay Talley is still pursuing his sadistic ways and for now remains free to t ...
Pros: Enough of the old magic in spots to keep it interesting... Cons: Poor plot resolutions. Was this meant to be a two parter?
This is a confusing novel. Sort of Patricia Cornwell does Tom Clancy and Jeffrey Deaver. Three years after The Last Precinct, Scarpetta has fled Virginia. She is invited to study an eight year old murder in Baton Rouge. Along the way, she runs ...
Pros: Scarpetta is back Cons: Writing style, plot, character development, continuity
After 4 years without the annual Dr. Kay Scarpetta installment, Patricia Cornwell returns with an update to her main character's life with Blow Fly. Past History Previous books, starting with Postmortem in 1990, included ...
Pros: Quick moving plot that pulls you forward wondering what can possibly come next! Cons: Cornwell destroys the ending! It sputters to a pitiful and unsatisfying end.
I love Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series of novels and looked forward to the release of this one with anticipation. This review will reveal major details of the plot. Ok, Patricia. You got me. You really did! No where did I ever expect ...
Pros: they let me return it Cons: Get ready for therapy; depression and psychosis seems to have set in permanently
Okay, my third review and I really feel that this one has been the most disappointing book I've read so far this summer. I am a full time grad student and haven't read a non-textbook for Y-E-A-R-S so even if this book was released a really long time ...
Pros: Avid fans get their fix Cons: Flat Characters, predictable plot and I'm still waiting for an ending
Let me first state that I have not read all of the books in the Kate Scarpetta series and this book convinced that was a wise choice on my part. I picked up the book at my in-laws who are big Patricia Cornwell fans. I have no idea what ...
Pros: The author, the characters. Cons: The writing style.
I am a huge Patricia Cornwell fan, and was excited when I finally bought this book. I was quickly disappointed. While her other books, in my opinion, can be a bit graphic medically, this one seemed a little over the top even for her. The writing style even seemed to be completely different than her other books. I struggled to get through the book, but felt somewhat obligated, I suppose, since I had spent the money to purchase it. While discussing the author with a friend of mine, who is also a fan, I discouraged her from buying the book. In short, save your money. If you HAVE to read it, borrow it. Here's to hoping her future books will reclaim the intrigue of her previous works.
Pros: A pure thriller; I was involved immediately. Cons: I found only thrills with this book.
I have always enjoyed Patricia Cornwell's books. But I found them to be too slow sometimes and too bogged down with jargon. A woman coroner should have a thrilling life. I found Blow Fly to be a mature move in Cornwell's genre. Her style is fast, clean, thrilling, scary. Her characters are more developed without being top heavey. I could not put this book down.
I am a HUGE fan of Patricia Cornwell (way, way before CSI came to town!) When I first started reading this, I thought to myself, "Did I miss a novel in between somewhere?" This is NOT the Dr. Scarpetta I used to know and love! This novel, instead of being written in the first person, the first being Dr. Scarpetta, it refers to her in the third, "Scarpetta". Not even 'Dr.' Scarpetta or Kay. I was a little confused with this. Is Ms. Cornwell trying to get away from Dr. Scarpetta as the main character? I see Dr. Scarpetta's niece, Lucy, as taking over as the main character. But the reason I liked these books are for the forensics in the first place. How can Lucy take over from here?
