Pros: Subtle, graceful, and rewarding Cons: Often impenetrable (as always), sometimes overproduced
In the week or so that I've owned Tori Amos' new album The Beekeeper, I have heard opening track "Parasol" probably twenty or thirty times, and closing track "Toast" maybe five. Oddly enough, this is no comment on the quality of the album (one ...
Pros: The music, primarily, as well as Toris' spellbinding vocals. Cons: Some of the lyrics are absurd for absurds' sake.
If Tori Amos' new work is supposed to be a narrative, then listening to these songs in order would be the right thing to do. Or so it would seem. Despite Tori's insistence on dividing the album up into 'gardens' and thereby infusing it with some greater ...
Pros: new Tori Amos cd Cons: not as gripping as previous albums
I generally love Tori Amos's music, but I still have not been able to get into this album. I loved Scarlets Walk, but on this cd I hear several sounds that have already been explored on previous albums. I don't know. I think this cd is mainly for hardcore Tori fans, but there are a few songs that I enjoyed.
These are songs from a "Happy" Tori by boodersue ,Oct 31 '05
Pros: Parasol, Hoochie Woman, and the Beekeeper. Cons: No anger or conflict in her lyrics.
I have been a Tori Amos fan for over 12 years now. I have just about everything she has ever put out, including the hard to find box set of "Tori Stories" and "Y Kant Tori Read". I fell in love with her music in her more angry expressive years. We could always count on her music to fit into every mood, and her lyrics have always been something to wonder about. I think it comes down to just this: Tori is a very happy woman right now in her life. She has her husband, her daughter, her family and her career in line. So it affects her music. She will always excel in anything she touches as far as music goes, so I will always purchase everything she puts out. The songs I enjoy most on this album are "Parasol" "Hoochie Woman" and "Beekeeper". Bottom line, this is one of her more tame albums but right now she is at peace with her life as it shows in her music. I listen to this album most when driving in heavy traffic. Very calming affect to it.
