  • Musicology, by Prince

    May 07 '04
Pros: Well, at least he's still recording.
    Cons: See the review.

Summary: I’m sure I’ll only get about halfway through this review before the lightning strikes. So be it. With all the hype and attention and great reviews Prince’s MUSICOLOGY is getting, I grabbed it the day after it was released and took it ...

  • Dr. Prince's Musicology

    Mar 07 '05
Pros: Overall, the listen ain't bad. Better than The Rainbow Children.
Cons: Nothing as catchy as The Gold Experience nor Emancipation.

Summary: Hi-lites Cinnamon Girl Musicology A Million Days Secondaries Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance Life 'O' the Party Call My Name 3rd-rate What do u Want me to do? After track 7, the songs aren't as strong. I was still ...

  • Music To Make the Whitest Boy Dance Part 1: Prince's Musicology

    Jul 12 '04
Pros: funky, rocking, and slow burning, all at once
Cons: a couple of outright duds

Summary: I admit that I was late to the party with Prince. I admit that Musicology is the first actual Prince album I've listened to front to back. Sure, I'd heard the singles, you know, When Doves Cry, 1999, Little Red ...

  • Prince's Musicology Won't Learn Ya Much... But It's Good, Nonetheless

    Jun 24 '04
Pros: "A Million Days", most other tracks.
    Cons: Repetition, dumb politics.

Summary: I'm not so sure I like Prince. Ever since I saw a "flashback" video that featured him in a bathtub, and I heard my mom talking about how sexy he was (I think I was in seventh grade around this occurrence), there's just been something sort of disgusting ...

  • Pay Attention! Prince Is About to School Us in Musicology!

    May 31 '04
Pros: Still has elements of classic Prince; inventive production, lyrics, vocals
Cons: Not 100% classic, edgy Prince; lacks cohesion

Summary: “Don’t call it a comeback!” should be the theme of this record. According to Prince, “I never went anywhere” and the man has never lied. To me, Prince has to be the most consistent musician of the past 25 years. In 25 years, Prince has managed to release ...

  • Princes' Musical Call To Arms: This Bores Me

    Apr 30 '04
Pros: he sounds good, the music is original, love his voice
Cons: zzzzzzzzzzzz, was i under anesthesia? oh, no - i was listening to musicology

Summary: It is the “comeback” of an artist who says he never went away. And while Prince’s influence on just about every contemporary R&B artist in heavy rotation on radio airwaves can’t be negated, there was a period of time where is name wasn’t on the tip of ...

  • Many Kings, But Only One Prince!

    Apr 24 '04
Pros: This is Prince with his classic NPG sound that everyone can listen to.
Cons: Takes a few listens to get into it, but is that a con?

Summary: "There are many kings...but there is only one Prince," was the opening comment by Alicia Keys for Princes induction into the R&R Hall Of Fame, and this is the truth, Ruth! Being that this is my first review in quite some time, be patient, please, ...

  • His Royal Badness Now Teaching: "Musicology 101"

    Apr 23 '04
Pros: Prince stops trying to make a "statement" and lets the music speak.
Cons: "Dirty Mind" and "Sign O The Times" lead to ridiculously high expectations.

Summary: Despite the barbs that have been slung at Prince as his career has slowly wound down over the last decade or so (especially since the name change), let's face facts. The man is a living legend. How many artists are responsible for not one, not two, but ...

  • Prince - Musicology: Attention, popstars and other pretenders! Class is now in session

    Apr 16 '04
Pros: This is a master class in Advanced Funk Technique
Cons: Will the uneducated masses understand the professor's thesis?

Summary: Here's the review I'd love to write for this album: GO. NOW. BUY. LISTEN & BE AMAZED. RESPECT THE TRUE FUNK SOLDIERS. That won't get me a passing grade in this class, so I'm turning in this somewhat longer essay to try to ...

  • Prince Rediscovers His Good Old, Bad Old Self on "Musicology"

    Apr 14 '04
Pros: Prince drops the hokey mumbo-jumbo and wholehearted embraces the Spirit of the Boogie.
Cons: The Neptunes will still sell more records this year.

Summary: In the beginning, it was 1978, and the music was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And it came to pass in the place called Minneapolis, that a young man - a very, very short one - signed a record contract with Warner ...

  • Musicology: His Purple Highness returns...

    Mar 31 '04
Pros: Another hit or miss album. Nothing groundbreaking (for Prince). It may grow on you though.
Cons: Only 12 tracks and barely an hour long worth of music. Couple of rereleases.

Summary: (just added a bit of info about online purchase info and release date in stores on April 20th) Earlier this month, everyone's favorite purple supermusician was finally inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. He also signed a contract with Sony to ...

  • Best CD since Purple Rain

    Jul 25 '05
Pros: The whole thing is great
    Cons: None!

Summary: I got this CD included with the tickets to my first ever Prince concert (will NOT be my last!). I would have paid for it! The beats are awesome and his voice just can't get any better. I could listen to this CD all day and never get tired of it.
