Pros: Still turns heads, great handling, outstanding reliability
Cons: Interior has many flaws, repairs aren't cheap
The Bottom Line: If you've been thinking about buying a 944, look to a newer model year. After late 1985, it was a much better car.

I remember looking at the Porsche 944 when it first came out and drooling a little. Hey I was still a kid and most guys, we had our eye on one car or another in our youth. There was something about the muscular sheet metal and those beefy tires that the ...

Pros: it's a porsche. handling, power, spacious.
Cons: it's a porsche (expensive everything!)
The Bottom Line: buy it if you can service it. but if you have to take it to a shop, prepare to pay $1,000. for windshield wipers...

my wife has this car, and i'm the (un)lucky one that get's to service it. it's biggest problem is the belt tensioner. no matter what, the belt squeaks on this car every morning, and when the a/c is on (for a while). but it's a great handling car with...

Pros: Extremely sexy design, Incredible handling and braking, even by today's standards. Comfortable to drive
Cons: Stereo and speaker placement, have to change timing belt every 30,000.
The 944 is an outstanding car. I am currently driving my second, which is a 1983 model. I traded a 1985.5 model for it that had 147,000 on it. It ran flawlessly, however, the 83 had 26,000 miles when I got it. The stereo is surely the lowpoint of these cars and I just upgraded my not-working-too-well Blaupunkt with an Alpine cd player.

These cars usually get a lot of bad press from people who don't have 1, but as long as the maintenance is performed regularly, I find them to be very reliable. I have had no real problems with either of them. They are attractive, solidly built, fun cars to own and drive. And these days parts are readily available and not really that expensive.

Although not a dragster, my 83 is fairly quick, arriving at 60 in between 7-7.5 seconds (note= my 83 is noticeably quicker than the 85.5, although doesn't handle quite as well, yet).
