Pros: Long lasting reliability Cons: Its a 17 year old car
I got my car when I was just 16.
A third generation gift I received.
I beat it. I kicked it.
I abused it. I neglected it.
Daily I dreaded its dull, two tone blue.
Like a soccer mom who,
Had two kids it made me appear,...

Pros: interior size, 4wd in winter, style Cons: not as common, age,
My wife bought Goldie (our 1984 Tercel wagon w/4wd) in 1989. She bought it because her mother's car (also an 84 Tercel wagon, which they still have) was a good, reliable vehicle. Goldie was a one-owner car with about 39k miles. The car now has 81.5k...

Pros: Practical 4WD, good space and reliability. Still looks nice today. Good handling. Cons: Slow.. Slow.. Slow..! Manual windows & mirrors. Then again it was over 20 years ago. The Bottom Line: Underpowered. But very practical if you live somewhere where it snows.
Here's a nostalgic review of my first car which I bought new in 1984. Back then I needed a car that can handle New England's winters and also carry all my possessions, or all the junk I knew I would eventually accumulate The car had A/C (optional), ...

Pros: cheap, good cargo-room, fun to drive, few things to go wrong Cons: unsafe and old The Bottom Line: It's old but reliable, slow but fun to drive, unsafe but practical, cheap but ugly - you can do better with another car these days.
I had a low mileage, gold on gold, stick-shift hatchback as my first car a few years ago and, though I've move onward and upward, I remember the little bugger fondly. The tercel hatchback can haul a suprising amount of cargo, but when fully loaded it get ...

Pros: Cheap, Reliable, Daily Driver, easy to work on. Cons: tranny's are a lil weak.
I've owned my 1985 toyota tercel 4wd wagon for about 6 months now. I bought it for 150 dollars because of an engine knock. Wrist pin was going out, so I blew the motor and threw a junk yard motor in there, cost? 300 dollars. Various repairs later, i've spent maybe 600 on it, and she runs beautifully. It goes places my other cars can't go (1977 toyota celica fastback, and a 1997 honda accord). It's an alright mudder, it does get stuck. But for camping? Nothing beats it. I've slept in the back a couple of times. Just bring some soft blankets and it's actually comfy.
I have the 5 speed manual with the EL gear. And really, I wish the tranny would hold up better in these cars. i hear a loud clunk one day, and 3rd is broken up and 4th gear is GONE. I still drive it, with only EL, 1st, 2nd, and 5th. I still get 25mpg, and I still love my Tercel wagon.
