Pros: Affordable, Fun to drive, Unique-looking, Oversteer heaven. Cons: Impractical as only car, or for long-distance driving. The Bottom Line: For around $1000, you won't find another fun little go-kart for the street. Non-believers of 4-cylinder sports cars should give this car a second chance. I did and I'm hooked.
Wow, this little car changes everything! I didn't think the Japanese knew how to build a fun little car until I got my '86 MR2. What an unusual car, from Toyota of all people: A Mid-Engined, Rear-Wheel drive, 2 seater (most say...

Pros: Fast, reliable, has character, attractive, decent gas mileage, runs forever. Cons: Runs rough at low speeds, difficult to smog, expensive to get fixed.
I bought this 1986 version of the MR2 from an ex-boyfriend. I'm not the sports car type, and was hesitant to make the purchase. Plus, he bought the thing from a junk yard, and it has about 150,000 miles on it, so I was afraid of what I was getting...

Pros: Never ceases to amaze me Cons: $168 for a speedo cable! The Bottom Line: This car is the shizzit! Awesome 80's mid-engine sports car at low, affordable prices.
This is a hand-me-down from my aunt. Someone backed into her in it and put a small but irritating dent in the front fender that the front end bra covers nicely. At the time, I thought the car was an unroadworthy piece of crap. My attitude was soon to...

Pros: Cheap, fast, great gas mileage, very reliable, and FUN Cons: expensive parts, no room for large items.
First thing I want to say is, FUN! I have had 2 1986 Toyota MR2's in my lifetime and both were FUN! I got my first MR2 for free from my father's friend that crashed it. The front end had some heavy damage on it but was fixable.
After spending about...

Pros: agile, efficient, great interior layout, easy to park in tight spots, overall a fun car! Cons: the car will last forever, but when you need to replace things like the master brake cylinder or brake calipers, be prepared to pay out major money!
I got my mister two in January '91. I love it! It's a rip to drive, easy on the wallet, and (not to mention) it's always cool when someone who's never seen one tells you what a smart-looking car you have. Another cool thing is when another MR2 driver...

Pros: Economical; reliable and dependable; comfortable; fun to drive; 2 trunks!; awesome; no back seat drivers! Cons: Umm... The Bottom Line: Buy this car if you EVER get half a chance. It's worth it!
I'd never even heard of a Toyota MR2 until I saw an ad for 2 in a local newspaper that were being sold as a pair. After I called about them (they didn't run, and the better one's problem was thought to be a "burnt valve") , I asked around of 3 neighbors ...

Pros: Extremely responsive steering. Fun to drive. Loves to get up to speed. Cons: Pain to work on (mid-engine/small). Shifting problem. Loud (again, mid-engine behind your head). The Bottom Line: Buy it! These cars aren't going to be around forever. If it needs money, put it into it, it's worth it.
I've owned my '86 Toyota MR2 for a few weeks now, and I've quite honestly never driven a more responsive, quick little car like the MR2. When I first got it, the car seemed a bit jerky, and didn't like to stop all that well. After I changed the clutch, ...

Pros: Light weight, visually dynamic, beyond reliable, FUN. Cons: Can't take it to bed with you at night.
Pushrod pundits need not apply. If you identify with massive amounts of sheetmetal and spinning tires, check the ads for a lowered Oldsmobile with an eight liter school-bus motor. This car will appeal to a more elevated intellect and sharper reflexes....

1986 N/A MR2

Pros: Roomier than a 91 turbo
Ergonomics,Quality and gas mileage.
Electric conversion?
Cons: Wimpy horn, weak A/C, freezing parking brake, rust around wheel wells, exhaust manifold.
Great car, a cheap alternative to a Lotus or NSX. I call mine a go-kart and they are very roomy and comfortable, I'm 6'4 and fit inside very well, they are even roomier than a turbo model. The MR2 is faster than a civic and most cars it's displacement. The quality is the best of any car maker in Japan. Easy to repair, lots of used parts available. Motor redlines at 7200 and the tvis kicks in at 4500 RPM. Audio in this car sounds awesome. There's a stock 4" sub box under the drivers seat.
Small accidents can write off this car so make sure you have extended insurance.
- Original stock manifolds for this car are notorious for cracking at the 4th cylinder area, replace with a newer 88 stock manifold.
-Old E-Brake cable can snap in freezing weather if not careful.
-Great rally car or city drifter.

Pros: handling, gas mileage, fun to drive, clutch/transmission, driving position Cons: power, trunk space, hard to work on, uh.....thats about it
This car is about the most fun you can have with 112 horsepower. It handles great and is quick. Fuel efficiency is an impressive 32/40 mpg. The driving position is very comfortable. The clutch and transmission are so smooth and forgiving. It looks good and is well built. The trunk is a joke, but who cares. Its kind of hard to work on also. The car is quick, but I wish it had more power. I had mine for three years and it gave me very little trouble. I sold it because I wanted something with more power. I bought a 1984 300zx turbo. Its fast, but the mr2 beats it out in just about every other category. I kind of miss the little guy. I think that I would get another one in the future. I would like to get the supercharged version, but I heard that the handling is not as great and it weighs almost 200 pounds more.
