Pros: SOLID CONSTRUCTION.FRUGAL. INDESTRUCTIBLE. A BARGAIN SAVES YOU MONEY FOR THINGS LIKE FOOD AND SHELTER.
Cons: YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN ALARM  BECAUSE THEY WILL GO TO SOUTH AMERICA WITHOUT YOU
The Bottom Line: you get more than your moneys worth

I own a 1986, a 1987 and two 1989 toyota 1 ton pickups. All purchased since 2008 at from $2000.00 to $3850.00. Some required more money to fix up one only needed an oil change. Two had under 80,000 miles, one had 140,000 miles and the other had ... read more

Pros: Simple, reliable, utilitarian, rugged.
Cons: Plastic and vinyl fall apart with age and sun.
The Bottom Line: A great utilitarian vehicle.

Well, I have just sold my 86 Toyota pickup on eBay, and frankly I miss it. The best part about my old Toyota was its simplicity - no power steering, no AC, one belt, and a timing chain. One of my good friends across the country who has the same truck ... read more

Pros: Reliable Fuel efficient and handy Best looking pickup
Cons: Rust Not fast Needs a limited-slip differential to be a fun everyday car
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a reliable truck to keep, this is it.

I've owned an 86 1/2ton 2wd with the 22R carbureted engine for the past eight years, it is the most dependable car ever. 227,000 miles and now the engine is finally starting to break down, but a new head gasket should probably get it running perfect ... read more

Pros: Rock solid reliable & tough as nails!
Cons: Bed rust.
The Bottom Line: If you need a reliable, economical small truck, this is the one to get.

Fantastic truck! I've had two now. Both with 22RE (fuel injected 4 cylinder) engines, and 5 speed transmissions. These trucks can work like an OX! I've hooked up to multi-ton loads and pulled them for hundreds of miles at a shot. ... read more

Pros: Easy to drive, good gas economy
Cons: ugly
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a great road trip/utility/every day vehicle I am not sure that you can find a better one for the money.

I have been driving a 1986 silver toyota van for about a year now. I have no major complaints about mine whatsoever. It is very easy to drive, comfortable and has lots of space plus it gets great gas mileage (more than you can say for those huge land ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage, easy to work with
Cons: Rust problem, springy seat, not a hauler
The Bottom Line: If you need a practical, basic and fuel efficient pickup, consider the 1986 Toyota Pickup. Drive side by side with those V8s, consuming half the gas.

Many car shoppers (especially American) buy a car and add features "just in case this and that happens". The SUV is a good example: # How many times do you really take that car off road and need the 4WD, when living in Southern ... read more

Pros: The Best Darn PickUp Ever Made. Why did Toyota make it so good?
Cons: Klucking nosie when you hard right turn and go up incline(driveway) Doesn't happen going left.
I am original owner. Aside from Routine Maintenance(tires, brakes, etc) it has only cost me $2,400 on repairs in 20 years. 4 Speed Man. It never left me stranded or refused to start. It always starts. I got some rust but it doesn't spread. It has been in
