Pros: Price, durability, and features Cons: not for the 7 foot couple!
I bought this Camry in march of 1988. Though I felt it was somewhat cramped at the time, I was soon to grow attached to this little spit fire.
New it was when I bought it, but now it old haggard look does not seem...

Pros: Good Fuel Economy, Comfortable for Short Distance Drives Cons: UNRELIABLE!, Weak 4-cylinder Engine, Way Higher Than Average Insurance Cost The Bottom Line: DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!! You spend much to buy, maintain, and insure it, and then it breaks down on you! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
I purchased my 1988 Toyota Camry sedan in 2000, with about 118k miles. I was short for cash and needed a reliable car that was fairly cheap to own. I thought the Camry would be a good choice because I've heard they are very reliable. Boy have I been ...

Pros: Absolutely outstanding value, economy, reliability, and cargo capacity. Cons: Evil dealers. Seek repairs elsewhere in the rare event they are needed. The Bottom Line: Cheap to buy, cheap to own, will never die, can haul anything. It's a 14-year-old Toyota station wagon, and it's the most practical car in the universe.
Wow, I love my car.
I bought it on eBay for $910 in Dec. 2001. It had some minor accident damage which I repaired myself; I still got it for about $700 under market value. In addition to that, after being rear-ended at about 20-25 mph last...

Pros: Reliable, Inexpensive maintenance, Easy to get parts Cons: Not getting any younger
It may seem a bit inappropriate to have a review of such an old automobile but if you look on the road, you are likely to see more 87-91 Camrys than you are to see many new cars.
I purchased this auto for $6000 three years ago, with 60k...

Pros: reliable, great fuel economy, smooth ride, comfortable Cons: 4-cylinder could use more power The Bottom Line: BUY IT!!!! BUY IT!!!! BUY IT!!!! BUY IT!!!!
My car is a silver 1988 Toyota Camry. I bought this vehicle in 1997 for $3000. It is the most basic Camry model and thus does not have power windows, power locks, or even wheel covers. It does have an A/C and radio. Mileage when purchased was about...

Pros: Very, Very durable Cons: Not really flashy or fast
I owned a 1998 White Toyota Camry for about from 1991 to 1995, and it was as durable as a tank.
When I bought it, it has about 40,000 miles on it. During the three years I owned it, I beat the crud out of it by driving to and from college. By the...

My husband has an 88 Camry and it is still in wonderful condition and still drives great! He has about 120,000 miles or so on it & other than normal wear & tear, it is still kickin'.
We have two babies, and although they are usually in my...

Pros: Reliable, good gas mileage Cons: Expensive repairs
I bought a 1988 Toyota Camry 5 years ago, and I guess the easiest thing to say is that it is the best car I have ever owned. It has been extremely reliable. I have never had a problem starting it on cold mornings (except when technical problems...

Pros: Very reliable, durable, very good gas mileage, minimal maintenance Cons: not as flashy or powerful as the new cars The Bottom Line: The number of 87-91 toyota camrys you see going around the roads is enough evidence that they LAST. period.
I was looking for cheap used car a few months ago when I came across a posting for a maroon 1988 Toyota Camry DX Sedan. I went to the seller's office and took a test drive and I immediately felt that the car was meant for me. Even after 13 years and 2...

Pros: Runs supererbly! GREAT on gas! Smooth ride. Cold a/c Cons: Leaking oil, no power windows The Bottom Line: BUY THIS RELIABLE CAR FOR YOUR COLLEGE STUDENT
Whatever the color may be. I LOVED this car...sooooo reliable. My mom bought me this car for my first year of college. I didnt appreciate it then as I do now. It was great on gas, somewhat comfortable, and drove like roaches in nuclear mayhem. I mean ...

Pros: Extremely reliable, good gas mileage, lots of space, comfortable ride. Cons: Parts can be pricey, minor electrical problems are the most common issue. The Bottom Line: These cars are 15 years old now but a car from a fairly rust free area should be one of your best bets for the money.
In 1993 I bought this car for CDN$8000. That's just over US$5000 these days. It had about 65,000 miles on it (just over 100,000 km) and now in 2003 the car boasts about 275,000 miles or around 440,000 km. I live on the east coast of Canada so it's seen...

Pros: Roomy, Good Gas Mileage, Smooth Ride Cons: Lack of torque
I recently purchased a 1988 Toyota Camry. I choose to buy this car with a five speed manual transmission. It's engine is a 2.0 litre, 16 valve electronically fuel injected engine. The car has no power options but does have cruise control and air...

Pros: Loaded, Fuel Mileage, Low Maitenance Cons: Acceleration is depleting fast (dirty throttlebody?)... that's all.
The 1988 Toyota Camry Station Wagon (I've got the deluxe model), is probably one of the best cars, I've ever, ever had the pleasure of driving. For being nearly 20 years old, the handling, interior and such are very refined. Mine's been in the family for it's whole life, but regardless, I beat on it, being a 17 year old kid, and it dealt. At about 200,000 miles, the car did lose it's struts, but what do you expect? That stuff needs replacing. They've been replaced more than once, as most station wagons seem to have strut problems, especially older ones. Mine was loaded. Power Windows, Automatic, Power Sunroof!!!, Power door locks, everything unlocks with one turn of a key, and the rear windsheild wiper. For the value of free (my aunt gave it to my brother after he wrecked his 1993 Ford Tempo), it's been a great car. My recommendations for you are, FOLLOW THE SERVICE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE DEALER, but I wouldn't actually take it to a dealer, seeing as they told me to drill holes in my car. But anyways, great car.
