Pros: Runs great, hasn't broken down. Cons: Makes some noises, cosmetically its not great. The Bottom Line: If you find a truck (SUV) like this for less than $1000, buy it. It'll run forever.
My dad bought his black on black 2-door 1989 S-10 Blazer (Tahoe edition, 4x4 and 4.3L Vortec) in 1998, and he paid $2500 for it, with 210K on the speedometer I believe, and he drove it until it hit 230K, when the transmission needed to be replaced ...

Pros: Nice ride, reliable, good looking vehicle Cons: No electric doors, locks. 4 wheel drive lever hard to operate. The Bottom Line: I would recommend this vehicle for it's convenience, stability, and safety. I loved owning it, and driving it.
I bought my '89 S-10 Blazer in '88 as new. I was so excited to have a 4-wheel drive. It has plenty of power with the first year 4.3 liter engine, and automatic transmission. Although, I didnt have use for the towing package, it was an option that ...

Pros: It a car with characterm reliable Cons: Gas mileage, engine oil consumptoin
I owned this car for over 14 years. It always started except 1 time at 75K miles. It required a new starter motor for $400. Other that periodic brakes, a set of tires, it was always there. Unfortunately at 50K, the number one piston valve started to leak. This caused the car to smoke when you started it up--but it continued to run. It even passed emmissions. It would fowl the EGR every 3 years for $80 but it kept on running. Teenage boys would ask about it. The car has character. Nothing ever stopped it running until: 101K, the gas tank start leaking, the front doors finally rusted out, the front tires went bald, brake pads needed replacing, the red paint finally went paste and started to streak off on the touch, headliner sagged down across the roof --it committed mechanical suicide. As it drove onto the flatbed truck--I thought maybe I it might be worth a new engine, brakes, tires, .....well, maybe not.
Still a day doesn't go by I don't miss this car. I'm actually in the market for another one --how wierd is that!

Pros: Great power and acceleration, very reliable. Cons: peeling pant, small leak in rear main seal (1-2 drops a day.)
I have an 89' S-10 blazer with a 4.3L v6 and 4x4. It has 115,000 miles on it and it is still running like new. My truck is so versatile and reliable. It starts up first try every time. The 4.3 makes great power and the 700R4 transmission shifts like new. I wouldn't trade my blazer for anything.

Pros: strong engine, great towing ability. does whatever you want. Cons: the front end was torn up on mine - probably from going offroad though.
I had the 4.3L V6 2 wheel drive blazer. This was a great truck! I got about 155,000 miles on it and it ran beautifully the whole time. I went off-road with it, went camping with it, moved stuff with it, went on cross-country trips in it. It started up every time. I actually think it was almost too light for the road. When I put about 800lbs of stuff in the back the ride felt smoother. It never flipped on me, no matter what I did. It may have felt like it would, but all 4 wheels would still be firmly on the ground. I frequently used to drive my truck 650miles between cities and i could easily go 90 the whole way in the middle of the hot texas summer (100 degrees) with hundreds of pounds of junk in the back of the truck and it would never overheat, never break down - it would just provide me with great driving.
