Older Jeeps Require Lots of Upkeep

by
Apr 9, 2006 - Updated Apr 11, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: can take the top off, can take doors off, great turning
Cons: lots of upkeep, a rough ride
The Bottom Line: If you love to upkeep your vehicle and you love offroad driving, you will love a jeep. A jeep isn't recommended for the rest of us.

I bought my very first jeep three years ago. It is not recommended to own only an older jeep for your only transportation. I have had many problems with my jeep, which has left me stranded at times. I was very excited when I bought my first jeep. I ... read more

Fun not practical

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: fun, take the doors off, fun, take the top off, did I mention fun?
Cons: poor gas milage, constant upkeep
The Bottom Line: Great vehicle if you go 4 wheeling or just want something fun to drive.

Taking the jeep out 4 wheeling looks like a lot of fun and it is to many people, I'm not one of them. Unfortunately I get motion sickness and can't handle the rough terrain. The rest of my family likes it and handles it a lot better than me and so does ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Top&door come off.
Cons: Expensive and brakes often

This is a very fun car. I have both soft top and a hard top, along with soft and hard doors. It is extremely fun to ride around with my top off. But that does not cancel out the pain and the money this car has wasted. I baught the car from a man who ... read more

Pros: styling, 4wd

I am 18 years old, and I have had my driver's license since i was 17. The first automobile that I drove was a 1989 Jeep Wrangler. When I had found out that my parents were buying me this, I was so happy. It seems to be a very great vehicle, being ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Reliable Engine, Good Handling
Cons: Wheels and Tires Unfit for Off-Road Work

In the '70s and '80s I worked road testing off road vehicles for Pickup, Van & 4WD, Off Road and Four Wheeler Magazines. A number of Jeep products were among those I tested. The Jeep list includes CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7 and YJ (Wrangler). With this ... read more

Problems with older Wranglers.

Dec 11, 1999 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Lotsa of fun, great in inclement weather, did I mention fun?
Cons: small wheelbase, poor gas mileage

First off let me say I love my car. I wouldn't trade it for anythign short of a Ferrari,....okay that's a little extreme. However it is not without it's problems. Older model jeeps tend to have a few problems with them. For one, the electrical ... read more

The 1989 Jeep Wrangler is Total Junk.
by
Nov 15, 2008 (Not Yet Rated)
Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No
Pros: The 1989 Wrangler body is made from galvenized steel, so rust is not prevalent.
Cons: The engine and transmission; specifically the Carter carburetor.
I've owned many vehicles over the past 30 years. I've been able to keep just about every kind of old, high mileage vehicle running; except for this 1989 Jeep Wrangler. What a piece of junk. The carburetor won't allow the engine to idle. The valves clang ... read more
