Pros: Generally trouble-free. The day it broke down was the day it died.
Cons: Low sex appeal, not much get-up-and-go.
The Bottom Line: Keep the oil changed and the tires rotated, and it'll serve you faithfully for many years to come.

My 1989 light blue Toyota Corolla was the first car I ever had. I got it brand new, right out of college, and it lasted me through many harsh Michigan winters and hot Georgia summers.

Oddly enough, my little Corolla almost qualified for the...

Pros: runs well, no major repairs, no recalls
Cons: Toyota dealers are scum

Every once in a while some fool suggests that it is time for me to sell my 1990 Toyota Corolla. Not gonna do it! The only way some dealer will get hold of my keys is to pry 'em out of my cold, dead hands, because I'm not parting with the Corolla...

The Bottom Line: If you need a car that gets from point A to B without style points required, use it

My Corolla is a hand me down, purchased from a family member. The family member was worried about the engine's dependability since the car had failed once on the highway, so it was available to me for $500. The Corolla is a fairly dependable machine; ...

I owned a 1989 Corolla since 1995. It has given me 47,000 miles of relatively worry free driving. This model changed from carbeurated after 1989. The interior is decent in size and comfort. Easily accesible buttons and controls are where you need them....

Cons: It's getting a little old... but aren't we all?
The Bottom Line: This car has been through it all and keeps on running. Sure, we've had to replace a few things, but what a GREAT CAR!!!

My husband bought his 1989 Toyota corolla in 1996. He then promptly fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his car going 70 miles an hour. THEN, something in the engine fell (due to my husband's lack of handy-man abilities) and caught on fire at which...

What can I say about the 1989 Corolla? A lot! I have one myself and it was a great investment. I bought it from my sister-in-law two and a half years ago with 148,000 miles on it. It now has just over 192,000 miles! I'll give a little history on my...

Pros: A monument of reliability and economy
Cons: Plastic interior items.

After 134,000 miles, I can still say that the car runs and drives like it did when I bought it. That doesn't sound very astounding, until you consider the fact that it has been used extensively for rural mail and newspaper delivery. It has been...

Jun 13 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Amazing reliability, great gas mileage. Came through for me when MANY new cars failed.
Cons: Uncomfortable ride, a rust bucket and doesn't feel safe when compared to larger vehicles.
The Bottom Line: The build quality isn't fair. The car IS 16 years old. Final recommendation, if you can find one, and need rock-solid reliability for a 2nd car, buy it.

I bought this great car after selling my 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara to lighten my debt load (no car payment). I stumbled across this little car by accident. I paid a measly $200.00 for it. The seller bought a new car and was about to have it JUNKED. Good ...
