Pros: Keeps going and going and going
Cons: Rust, only basic options

He was blue. He was rusty. He was old. And most importantly, he was free.

"Look," my dad said. "I'm only giving you the car because you can't afford one right now. If it was up to me, I'd sell it for $500 just to get rid of...

Pros: good mileage, automatic transmission shifts well, excellent steering, fast.
Cons: sluggish uphill, no extras, no right-side mirror, expensive parts & service.
The Bottom Line: Avoid it!!! This car is a problem! Maybe if it was injected, I might consider taking it for free... Otherwise avoid it.

I bought my Tercel from a friend. She moved to Europe for good and sold it to me for only $350. It had 157,000 miles, new tires, CD player and power steering. A/C wasn’t working. And the body condition was very poor. Scratched everywhere. There was...

Pros: quiet, efficient, simplicity, handling
Cons: small, dirty, basic

I bought an 1985 Toyota Tercel liftback 4 door front wheel drive last September for $900. I needed to register the car and get an I/M test plus insurance to drive it here in Anchorage, Alaska, so I wound up spending another $200 on it right off the...

Pros: Reliable, economical, will last a long time well maintained.
Cons: Does seem to be a victim to rust, not a miracle car
The Bottom Line: This car just go go goes. For me, a little regular mantainence is all it takes to keep this baby on the road. I thank God for this car.

My tercel has 170,000 miles on it. It may have small things go wrong on occasion. But it's still very reliable. The engine still runs runs runs. I drive all day with my job. My car usually running from 10am to 5pm and it never gives me a ...

Pros: Excellent mileage
Cons: Transmission very sluggish (Auto) Underpowered (0 - 100 KM in 16 seconds) NEVER buy!!!!!
I bought my 1989 Toyota Tercel coupe certified and etested from my dads friend. Lasted me 4 months. In for months the master break cylinder went and had to be replaced, BOTH front CV shafts went in the car and had to be replaced, them the ECU went, along with a continuous oil leak. Finally in the fourth month, driving down the highway at only 105 KM/H, go to pass someone so I accelerate to 110 KM/H and hit a ceiling, transmission downshifts to first gear, RPMs fly through the roof, and a nice loud continuous gunshot sound coming from the engine block. Conclusion? Connecting rod/Piston assembly fell the pieces and cracked. My very first car at 17, biggest piece of crap ever.
