'89 Honda Civic DX is a gem!

by carriedv
Aug 03 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cheap to get and keep, spacious, easy parking, cheap insurance, fun to drive
Cons: Too low, mufflers don't last, seats not too comfortable. Disbelieving looks from drivers I pass!
The Bottom Line: It's the FUEL ECONOMY, stupid! This is one of the great used car buys, DO IT!

My Honda is an '89 but Epinions has no category for this model year, so here it is under 1990. My beloved Baby Blue has a manual transmission with almost 230,000 miles on it, and it still gets 40-45 mpg on the highway, and 25-30 mpg in L.A. stop-n-crawl...

Pros: Everything but driving in the snow
Cons: Driving in the snow

I bought a Honda Civic Si brand new in 1990 and I was very saddened by it's death in 1992 when I was in an accident and my car was totalled.

My car was a 5-speed and everything on it was STANDARD except for the air conditioning and the radio....

A great car for short money

by chrishansen99
Dec 01 '02

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Economical, Sporty, and Reliable
Cons: Some rattles, but it is 12 years old...
The Bottom Line: I was thoroughly impressed by this car, and consider it one of the best auto purchases I have made in years.

I recently purchased a 1990 Honda Civic 3 Door Hatchback from a local used car dealer. I was not immediately attracted to this car, but after a test drive up the meanest canyon in Utah (Parley's), I was convinced it was a great car. This is always my...

Oct 12 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Affordable, great gas mileage, reliable, practical
Cons: Safety, small
The Bottom Line: For someone who doesn't need anything flashy and just need something that can get them around at a great price this is an ideal car.

This car is great as a get-around, commuting car. Excellent gas mileage and reliability, as well as being relatively cheap are the big pluses. You won't impress anyone with this car, but it is very economical and anyone who needs a cheap, reliable car...

by porcelina22
Mar 10 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Cute, Roomy, Fairly Economical, Si model is sporty
Cons: None!
The Bottom Line: If you need a reliable daily-driver go for this car! If you want to fix up a car, go for the Civic! It's a great car all around!

The answer to the above question? More than you'd think.

We have a 1990 Honda Civic Si. That is the sports-issue edition of the Civic, which was originally intended to be a purely economical car. However, Honda quickly noticed that their...

I Miss My Civic Si

May 29 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: reliable, economical,fun to drive
Cons: extremely popular among street racers and car thieves in So. California
The Bottom Line: Buy one, especially an Si. You can't go wrong with the Civic.

I had a 1990 Civic Si which I purchased new in November 1990. The Si is the sport edition of the economical Civic hatchback. It's not just sportier in looks, but it also has a slightly larger motor as well.

The car was extremely roomy inside...

Pros: fuel economy, resale value
Cons: no pickup

A rose is a rose is a rose...but in this case a Honda does NOT smell as sweet....

The 90 Honda Civic is a real lemon! I was really disappointed by this car and angry that Honda used its good reputation and name to pass this off as a...

Pros: Economical, "Roomy", Reliable.
Cons: Defrost Problem, Noisy

I bought my little civic in 1993. It was 3 years old at the time and seemed to be in great shape. Since that time I have put 100K miles and it has only required regular oil and filter changes a tune up and new brakes. Pretty much what you could expect...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: gas mileage, dependability, economy
Cons: sits low - visibility in SUV territory

Bought as my first new car, it is still running strong 210,000 miles later. Easy on tires, 40 mpg on the highway still. Doesn't burn oil between it's 3,000 mile changes. No rattles, tiny rust in an area where it had body repair several years ago....

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Amazing MPG, Easy to Park, Family Car and just a spiffy car all around.
Cons: What cons?
The Bottom Line: Get it! Its an awesome car!

Its my first car purchased two years ago with at least 150K on it. My mom purchased it because the Honda brand is known for its reliability and low maintenance cost. Plus she was able to get with all of its maintenance records and its gone to the same ...

It still runs...

by zelnorf
Mar 22 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Won't die, fun car (when it's low enough on miles)
Cons: Won't die, looses it's "guts" at 300k miles
The Bottom Line: Really reliable car, cheap and easy to work on, won't die, but don't buy it if it's over 300k miles

This car won't die for anything, I mean anything! It has almost 400k miles and still works (sorta). it has trouble on the freeway getting up to speed, but it can hold the speed once it reaches it. We've had this car for a good 5 years now and it has ...

A super reliable, if slow ride

by jem7vwh
Mar 18 '03

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliability Gas Mileage Maneuverability
Cons: Power Maintenance Prices
The Bottom Line: If you're short on cash and don't mind a slow driver, choose this reliable compact car.

I owned a 1990 Civic for 12 years. On the whole, it was a tremendously dependable and enjoyable car. Only after 225,000 miles did it fail to start. When I sold it, it had the original engine, transmission, drive train, and electrical system. The only...

Great Commuter / Daily Driver

by Coolcamino
May 13 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Sleek, comfortable, good on gas, RELIABLE
Cons: Too popular, parts expensive, somewhat too low
The Bottom Line: Great inexpensive car, which holds its value, drives great, and is comfortable.

I bought my '90 Hatchback as a commuter being that I drive 100 miles a day 3 days a week to San Diego and back. I paid a mere $2800 for it when I bought it and since it's a Honda I can sell it anyday for more than I have in it! I do have several...

Pros: Great Gas Mileage, Safe, Dependable
Cons: Forgot to change the oil

This review might be a bit dated, but I wanted to share so that all would know that the Civics are good, dependable cars.

My 1990 Honda Civic was my first car, I bought it secondhand off of my mom. This car was the best. I put so many miles...
