Pros: Smooth, quiet, decent performance, pretty good economy for a V-8. Cons: Repairs, which frequently require Lexus parts, are very expensive. The Bottom Line: If you want to keep up on the maintenance of the older Lexus, bring your checkbook -- and your saving account.
I bought a nice looking 90 LS400 8 months ago with no "glaring defects." It is pretty well loaded. With the air suspension it rides nicely -- almost too nice. (It lulls me to sleep.) In the last 8 months I have put less 1,000 miles per month on the car ... read more

Pros: Smooth, Luxurious, Relaxing Cons: Big
Recently we bought a Lexus LS400 90 model (the first year it came out.) The high mileage (160k) made the price cheaper, $10,000. The condition was as if the car was brand new. It was SO in mint condition. I couldn't believe how well the previous ... read more

Pros: very reliable, decent gas mileage Cons: when parts do fail, they are expensive; premium gas is expensive
I received this car as a hand-me-down from my parents. They were die-hard BMW drivers until 10 years ago when they test drove a first year Lexus LS400. They fell in love with it and since then have owned four other LS400's.
The car is very ... read more

My father bought a Lexus LS 400 the first year they were in production (1990). He drove it to work every day for nine years, putting over 100,000 miles on it. He had no problems with it at all except for a brake problem last year that the dealership was ... read more

I bought a used Lexus LS400, and I am completely satisfied with this vehicle. When I bought it, it had 100,000 mi on it, now in just 3 yrs, it has 170,000. I have only invested $600 in maintenance, including oil changes and new tires. It is a ... read more

Pros: Rides like nothing else, comfort, safety, and gawks from others Cons: very high parts cost The Bottom Line: I know I'll be the minority not recommending this car, but with my personal experience, it only brings very bad memories.
I bought a 1990 LS400 in May 1998 with 112,000 miles on it and love it. It now has 128,000 miles, but the past 4 months have proved that this isn't the perfect car. I GOT RID OF IT WITH 135,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SELL EXCEPT TO A ... read more

Pros: Great comfort and power Cons: Poor battery life
I purchased my LS400 in 1990, in the first model year and I still have it and it runs and looks like a new car. The body and paint have held up exceptionally well, and the interior has maintained its comfort and appearance. Although it hardly handles ... read more

My father bought a 1990 Lexus LS400, the first year they were available. He leased it as a company car, and is still driving it to this day, years after the lease expired.
Honest to God, we have NEVER had a problem with this car. Nothing. ... read more

Pros: Power, equipment functuality, and reliability. Cons: The fact that repairs can be expensive, unless you are a do-it yourselfer.
I got this car from a friend for free (believe it or not). All it needed was an altenator, battery, and a set of spark plugs. The car does have some body damage, ie. dents and fading paint. But what 18 year old car doesn't? So far the car has

I bought my 1990 LS400 in 2001. It had about 165,000 miles on it at the time. I now have 286,000 miles on it. I have replaced the A/C, and had the transmission rebuilt. I also have had problems with the suspension. Considering the miles, it has been

I bought my 1990 Lexus LS400 just about a year ago with 114k miles on the clock. It now has over 135k miles on it and still runs like a champ. The only thing I had to replace were the brakes. They were easy enough to do and affordable at the local

Pros: Great engine, no leaks, doesn't burn oil, still very reliable after 15 yrs, good power. Cons: All parts are ridiculusly expensive, front suspension upper control arms cost me $1200 a pair.
I have owned many cars --over 30, some of them were: Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, Lincoln, most American brands and many Japanese cars. This glorified "Toyota" is unbelieveable with the quality, finish and performance, there are lots of hints of the quality
