Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: In the end? None
Cons: Pretty much everything.
The Bottom Line: Too many problems make this model year a nightmare!

This is an updated re-post of an old review. For those of you who have already read this (or most of it), sorry for the bother. For those that haven’t, thanks for reading!

In June of 2000, I bought a 1991 BMW 318i from Tracy Volkswagon in...

The Ultimate - recycled - Driving Machine

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: BMW quality, built to last, timeless styling, kick-in-the-pants-to drive
Cons: radar guns, rush-hour traffic, more than 10 yrs old (47 in "car-years")
The Bottom Line: Serious Fahrfegnuggen!!! One of the best values available in used automobiles. Very powerful and sporty. Fun to drive. Strong/reliable engine. Comfortable interior. Quality creature-comforts.

When I decided that my daughters HS graduation present (summer of 2001) was to be a (used)car ... I wanted one that would be safe, reliable ... and stylish enough save her from social embarassment!

I also wanted the best value for my dollar....

The affordable M3

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Inexpensive, Durable
Cons: Getting a bit old. Harder to find a nice example

Ever wanted an E30 M3? The problem is that majority of old school M3's are usually raced and/or beat up by previous owners. One's that were not abused command unbelievable prices for a 10-year-old car.

IMO, next best thing will be a 1991 E30...

The E30 M3 is a great car overall

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast and handles great. The most bang for the buck
Cons: repair is costly and has to be done correctly.
The Bottom Line: The E30 M3 is a great set of wheels and I would recommend it to only those who don't mind doing some weekend work and getting your hands dirty.

As a long time BMW fan, it took me over 3 years to find an E30 M3 in the condition I wanted. It was not tracked, raced or abused in any way by the previous owner and to my surprise all original right down to the factory radio that came with it. I fell...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, solid, cheap, mileage, classic styling, and upper class transportation
Cons: Underpowered if mileage isn't main concern
The Bottom Line: If I was in a situation where I needed to drive an affordable, good mileage car that looks classy I would most definitely look into another E30 BMW

I bought a 1991 BMW 318is a few months after I had turned 16 in October of 1999. It was brilitrot red with natural vinyl interior. This car came with a 1.8 Litre 4- cylinder engine that produces 134 horsepower mated to a 5-speed gearbox. I ...

A Great Buy

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stylish, high-quality, long-lasting and overall a great car.
Cons: If not in good condition when bought, may cost too much to fix.
The Bottom Line: If you can find a well-maintained vehicle, go for it.

This car is really a great little car for anyone, so long as you are able to find a decent example. Any negative reviews are not indicative of the cars manufacturing, rather, of the way that Americans (especially) are used to treating their cars. With ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good for tall drivers
Cons: not much back seat room

This has been my first car. I bought it about a year ago and have been loving it ever since. The car is a 1991 e30 318i. It really handles well and shifts smoothly. I really love to drive it. I just recently have rolled over to the hundred...

Pros: it's a BMW, ride, comfort, sporty
Cons: a little underpowered

I was very lucky to drive this car as much as I did. At the time, I drove a 1994 Toyota Celica, my roommate had the BMW. We lived in downtown Chicago and were forced to share 1 parking space, parking the other car on the street. Since we never really...

ULTIMATE in every sense of the word

Pros: Zippy. Responsive. Great for city driving/parking. Timeless style.
Cons: None...really.
Even used, my 1991 BMW 325i convertible is the ultimate driving machine. This model was built to last, unlike newer versions, and it is a tank. I got it on the East coast with 75,000 miles and drove it out to Los Angeles (where I live). Even in the brutal stop and start LA traffic, my BMW has been a champ.

I'm coming up on 4 years with her, and though I've only managed to rack up 20,000 miles (odo will hit 95,000 soon), I drive nearly every day, and have driven many long trips with great satisfaction.

My best advice to new owners of these used gems is to find a reliable and reputable BMW/German car mechanic. I adore mine (Walter at N&W German Auto Repair on Pico @ Fairfax in LA). These cars are easy to maintain and require attention to scheduled maintenance, but by no means are they delicate.

I am a pretty rough driver and my Bimmer has always risen to the challenge. If anything, the ride only gets better as the years pass.

Built To Last

Pros: everything
Cons: it was a 5 speed, expensive to fix/maintain
This was my first car. My parents bought it brand new in 1991 for about 30 grand. we had it for about 9 years before finally selling it b/c I wanted something new & automatic. This car was very reliable had a little over 100,000 miles on it and was fully loaded. BMW's are definately built to stand the test of time. Not cheaply made at all. It had great handling and speed. The only downfall is that you pay all that money for the BMW name and you better have the money to maintain it as well. If you lose the gas cap, prepare to spend $200 on a new one. If the head gasket goes out, your looking at a few grand. But overall, it's a great car. I loved it and would like to own another BMW in the future.
