Pros: small, durable, and can withstand a hail storm Cons: small... The Bottom Line: This was a very reliable and very inexpensive car. Perfect for a 17-year-old.
Okay. I've owned my 1991 Ford Escort Pony since 1994. Only now am I selling it. I bought it in 1994 at age 17 for about $5500. It looked fancier than it actually was with a maroon paint job and pinstripes (apparently common on the otherwise stripped...

Pros: Cheap to buy/run/insure
Decently reliable
Relatively easy to get service with parts widely available Cons: Tie rods
Not Sexy
Not quite as refined as a Honda or Toyota The Bottom Line: These cars may not be sexy, but they are practical, decently reliable, cheap to buy, cheap to insure (nobody wants to steal them) and cheap to run.
My 1991 Ford Escort was an LX 5 door hatchback with the 5 speed manual and the base 1.9L SOHC 4 cylinder engine (88HP @ 4400rpm). I purchased this car off my brother in May of 1999 for $1500 and sold it in November of 2002 for $375. It had 275,000KM ...

Pros: Comfortable, room for hauling, rides like a ford, maintains speed well, easy to push. Cons: Acceleration, speed, handling, seat adjusting. The Bottom Line: A nifty little car, roomy for stuff, not for people. Great for daytrips, not freeway driving though! Nice but no Audi.
Purchased from City of Seattle in an auction for $2000, I've been the owner of my 1991 periwinkle blue Ford Escort LX for a little over a year now. Receiving this car when I had first received my drivers license, this car and I have been together through...

Pros: gas mileage, durability Cons: no true 4 wheel alignment
My dad was the first to suggest looking at the 1991 Escorts when I was looking for a car. A fully equipped LX hatchback at that time was priced less than other competitors. When I went for a test drive, I found that all the controls were just where my...

Pros: Reliable, stays in good condition Cons: Road noise, seats short for tall people
I bought the Escort to have a "new" car, but didn't need anything fancy. It has been reliable and efficient (28 mpg). It only has 75,000 miles on it, but I use it every day to go to work or run short errands. I have driven it on long drives...

Pros: Cheap and mechanically reliable Cons: Poor electrics and expensive dealers (UK)
I love Escorts, I think they're great.
I owned this European 1.6 S model for about 6 months and had a few problems.
The main problem in mine was the fuse box. Its a really common problem and was why the escort was considered unreliable.
I...

Pros: Good car for young family Cons: Didn't hold the road as good as expected
I bought a 91 ford escort. Best car i ever owned. There wasn't much room in the back at the time but i had small children and it suited me perfect. The gas miliage at the time i thought was very good, considering i use to travel over 100 miles a day,...

Pros: Good value, high milage, nice features Cons: Small interior, mildly rough ride at times
When I went shopping for my first car, I was looking for 2 things. A car that had a decent warranty and had a good price. I found both in my Ford Escort GT. The warranty never came into use for the 3 months I had it and today, over a year after buying...

Pros: runs well Cons: not too much power
Many people purchase Escorts because of the low cost. This is a large part of the reason I bought my Escort. However, I did not expect to get a lot of mileage out of it due to the amount I paid for the car. The car now has close to 100,000 miles and the...

I have a 1991 Ford Escort LX; I'm 16 years old and this is my first car. I totally recommend this vehicle. Throughout the time I have had it, I haven't had any major problems, which is suprising considering the age of this car. It's reliable and gets...

Pros: Very fun to drive, surprisingly peppy engine, has aged very well. Cons: Suffers from typical problems you would expect from a decade-old car. The Bottom Line: Great car! I've seen cars newer than this that are ready for the junkyard. The 1991 Escort is as dependable as American cars get, and is extremely fun to drive!
FINAL UPDATE (11/26/04) At 192,000, I finally traded this car in. In it's final year, I put over 40,000 miles on it, driving 180 miles round trip to work every day. No major problems during that time... I will miss it. UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW ...

I have a 1991 Ford Escort Wagon LX. It has over 138,000 miles on it, and it runs great! Personally, I think that Ford is the best kind of car that you can get.
Escorts themselves are a very popular brand of car though they are rather small....

Pros: Great mileage, roomy Cons: none
We bought the car because of the shape it was in and the price. It had about 96,000 miles on it when we bought it two years ago and now it's up to 136,000. Still running great. I love the room inside, and the back (station wagon) because we have two...

Pros: Holding up well, spunky acceleration, still running strong Cons: Power features are on their way out, dash cracked The Bottom Line: The "little engine that could." Minimal maintenance/repairs for its age. Great gas mileage. Worst thing is that I love it too much to drive it on a regular basis.
I have a 91 Escort LX, "Nelson," with 148,650 miles. I bought this car in 1995 with 60K miles and he has been amazing.
The Good:
Optimized acceleration in the first 2 gears for spunky pickup off the line.
I highly recommend spending a...

Pros: Gas mileage, dependability, dependability, dependability. Cons: none The Bottom Line: If I could go back to 1991 I would buy 25 more Escort GTs. Is it possible to actually be in love with a car? If so, I am.
It is the year 2005 and I still own my 1991 Ford Escort GT. It has been the only car I have ever owned. My parents bought it new and kept it in pristine shape until they gave it to me in 1995 when I turned 16. My dad was super protective of the car so ...
