Imperfect, But A Good In-Town Truck

by IrishDani
Dec 22 '00

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: comfortable, reasonably priced, few major problems
Cons: lots of annoying smaller problems, feeble handling in snow/on hills

I bought my 1991 ranger in January, 2000. It's the first vehicle I've ever bought and owned. When I bought it, the odometer was just shy of 80,000 miles, and we're just short of 90,000 now. I typically drive only 10 miles or so per day.

The...

Pros: Overall rugged design
Cons: Heavy and underpowered with 4cyl.

I bought the Ranger for transportation to and from work and to haul my mountain bike and a friend to the trails and back. It's been reliable so far and it has about 95k on the odometer.

The truck handles well, considering the archaic I-beam...

Pros: dependabilty, super cab
Cons: no power windows/locks!!!!

I bought my Ranger in 1995, used, from a ford dealer in Michigan. Since then I have driven it through all kinds of bad weather, snow, mud, rain, and even ice storms! It has yet to fail me! I used to drive it a hundred miles a day from home, to work, to...

Living in a very bad winter area, I was looking for something that could handle the weather without breaking into my bank too much. This is when I found my current truck, 1991 Ford Ranger.
Nothing was needed to be done with this truck, the...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: very durable, fast, comfy seats, spacious, fun to drive
Cons: terrible winter driving with 2WD model
The Bottom Line: in my opinion an excellent vehicle that isn't so good in winter, excellent first vehicle for a teen, if your into modding vehicles, this ranger has A LOT of possability

This is my first truck, I got it about 3 years ago completely stock. I have the XLT model with a 4.0 Liter V6 engine and only 2-wheel drive :(. When I got her, she had a bit of rust on it, mostly the rear fenders... and only about 40,000 miles on her ...

The Bottom Line: Very good reliable used transportation.

I recently bought a '91 Ford Ranger as my second vehicle for going back and fourth to work, hauling lumber, dirt, tree branches, etc. I was lucky enough to get a good metal toolbox, which sits behind the cab, and a homemade tonneau cover for keeping ...

My Truck Rules!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It is the truck I own, so it has to be the best.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: It RULES! You need not a reason to own one. I even have one.

I own a 1991 Ford Ranger and it has taught me a lot about driving and manuverability. I passed my manuverability test my first time without practice in the this truck without powersteering. Somehow, other people can't do that. I find that funny. Also...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: 4.0 Engine is one heck of a engine-it has given me great performance!
Cons: Some accessories not working properly(a/c not cold, cruise control not working).
The Bottom Line: This is a well put together truck. The 4.0 engine is one heck of a engine, maybe the best 6 cylinder that Ford has built. Very reliable!

The body is getting some rust on it, but thats because I have not taken good care of it. I have been parking it outside in Pittsburgh PA and not waxing it much in the last few years. Overall the body has held up fairly well. The alum. alloy wheels have...

Pros: gas mileage, large usable bed.
Cons: needed oil pump replaced, not easiest vehicle to work on.
The Bottom Line: I think it's a wonderful little truck.

I bought a little red Ranger about four months ago. In the first month I had it I took it for a 800 mile trek to Colorado and back. When i first test drove it I noticed that the oil pressure seemed very low! the dealer of course told me that the gauges...

Before I brought my 1991 Ford Ranger Supercab, I just drove a car. But on buying my truck I found that it was a whole new experience. I have a 4.6 liter V-6 engine that is one of the most powerful in Fords smaller trucks. The interior was in perfect...

Pros: Long lasting
Cons: Only hold 2 or 3 people

I bought my Ford Ranger in 1991. I have not had one problem with this vehicle at all. If anything it has been one of the best trucks I have ever had. I wasn't much of a Ford person to begin with but when Chevy acted like they didn't want to sell be a...

Pros: When it's working it's a nice vehicle.
Cons: It doesn't work.

For my first car my father bought me a slightly used Ford Ranger. I'm very lucky that he's a Master Auto mechanic. During the time I had that car I was stranded over 5 times. Twice because of the electrical system. Twice because of the fuel system....

In a word: durable.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: power, 20+ mpg, lives forever
Cons: rust prone, want a new truck but this one won't die.
Bought my Ranger in Nov 2004. It has the 3 liter v6 and five speed manual, two wheel drive, 178,000 miles. It needed a new radiator, thermostat, hoses, blower relay, and a few light bulbs. I still need to fabricate new rear body mounts and sheetmetal due to Pennsylvania winters and neglect from previous owners. I can't say enough about this little truck...I am VERY hard on vehicles, and I can't kill this one. It hustles down the road at an amazing rate and will smoke the tires whenever I see fit. Always starts right up (even on five cylinders...bad plug wire) and goes wherever I point it. If you have oversteer problems with a small 2wd truck, get yourself some weight and good rear tires, it ain't the truck's fault. I have driven this thing to the other side of the state with a heavy load, raced a few cars, jumped it, ditched it, hit it with another truck, and it lives on. If you buy one this old, have the heater flushed and get a blower relay from Ford, they are cheap and your heat will cook you afterward.
