Pros: Sporty looks. Cons: Tiny interior, Only fair gas mileage, Anemic engine, Reliability issues. The Bottom Line: Unreliable, slow, and V6 fuel economy, the 1.8 liter GS Eclipse is not recommended.
The 1991 Eclipse was offered in many trim lines and engine options. This review is based on my experience with a 1991, 1.8 liter GS, and should not, in any way, be associated with the Turbo powered models of 1991. That said, the 1.8 liter GS has...

Pros: Quick, responsive, fun, reliable drive train, cheap as dirt to buy. Cons: Expensive repairs, mountain driving, noise @ hi rpm The Bottom Line: Great fun car, get it for the driving, not the room.
I have had my '91 GS for almost 3 years now, however the car was previously owned by my parents so I've been around it since it was driven off the lot way back in the day. I have read and heard that this car can be very unreliable; I however have not ...

Pros: Sporty and quick Cons: Tight on space
My first car purchase was a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I got it used and I was so excited about getting a car that I didn't really research as much as I should have, nor did I really shop around. I went looking at what was in my price range in the area...

Pros: Fast, tractable, agile. Cons: Poor reliability and expensive repairs. The Bottom Line: Engine prone to high rates of parts failure, with expensive repair costs associated!
I owned a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, all wheel drive turbo, for 3 years. My personal experience with this car was one of great frustration, and extremely high expense. During my three years of ownership, my GSX was plagued with problems, very...

Pros: Great handling, gas mileage, nice simple interior. Cons: Mechanical problems in the engine and transmission. The Bottom Line: If you can find the car in good shape with less than 100,000 miles then get it! You will not regret it!
I bought my Eclipse GS for $1500 back on April 29, 2002. It was my 2nd car. I had it until I traded it in on my 2006 Cobalt. Mechanically, this car is only so so. It went until December 2002 before I had any problems with it but when it did have ...

Pros: ultra fast, great handling, embarass losers in Hondas Cons: crappy gas mileage, no space The Bottom Line: Mega fast car with sporty looks makes it easy to get where you're going in style.
If any of you have read any of my other epinions, you would know that the 1986 Celica I used to drive had a big DEATH stamp on it since the day I first sat in the driver's seat. What a incredible piece of horse crap that car was. We all knew that it...

Pros: Just about everything Cons: Needs more horses under the hood The Bottom Line: If you find one at a decent price with decently low mileage (I've heard the 1.8L 4g37 motor lasts up to about 210k miles), and good body condition, buy it!!
I got my base model 91 Eclipse just over a month ago, with 84k miles on it, and I love this car! It gets pretty good gas mileage, runs great, and handles any and all turns with ease. It's by far the smoothest ride I've ever experienced, and even at...

Pros: Very Fast.Even looks fast sitting still.
Great sound inside, racecar feel. Cons: Tiny back seat. The Bottom Line: The 1991 Eclipse is my favorite of all Eclipses, and possibly the most reliable. But I understand parts can be expensive.
I bought mine used in 1998, with 55000 mi. Now (2002), with 88000, It still runs beautifully. This is my second 1991 Eclipse. Note: The Turbo model is much better than the non-tubo, automatic I had before.
I love the design of the car. mine...

Pros: Fast, economical, built to last for years with looks to match. Cons: Auto transmission. Expect to replace every 75K mi's. Acceleration. The Bottom Line: Fast car at an economical price. Reliable, looks good, handles extremely well. I have owned two, a 90 and 91 and both have exceeded 150,000 miles.
I bought a 1990 Mits Eclipse base model with 1.8L brand new when they first came out in Sept 1989. I bought a 1991 1.8L GS in 2000 for $1,500 (from a dealership in North Texas, no less). Both of these cars I drove to 150,000 miles plus. The 90 I drove...

Pros: Fast, with mild tuning VERY FAST, with serious tuning UNBEATABLE! Cons: With enough tuning, the rest of the car can't take it...kaboom! The Bottom Line: In strictly a modification and power potential standpoint, there is no better car for the same price.
I've never understood the logic behind Honda racing. Yes, there are some fast Civics out there, with $10,000 blueprinted motors stripped chasis's, and the such. In my years of racing import cars, most Hondas were SLOW! Even with a turbo kit, the motor...

Pros: Great Handling. Dependable if taken care right! Cons: Small trunk. NOT ENOUGH POSITIVE RESPECT! The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car mainly because it's a dime a dozen in a junkyard and is cheaply fixable nowadays. If maintained right, this car is amazing.
I bought my 1991 Eclipse GS (1.8L Standard) from a friend in 2006 for a mere $200. It had been sitting in his driveway for 6 months with a broken clutch, broken passenger window and a damaged (but working) stereo. The only future expenses/frustrations I ...

Pros: FAst Acceleration Cons: Just can't seem to drive Slow Enough
I had a '91 Eclipse, and I swear it was the fastest thing I have ever driven. With Turbo and Dual Over Head Cams, it had excellent accelaration, and outstanding top speed. It is probably the roomiest sports car in it's class. With enough room to put a...

Pros: This car is perfect! Cons: None
As a spoiled teenager, my parents purchased a brand new car for me. It was an electric blue 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. I was so ecstatic that I named the car Ecstasy. I loved that car, but being the young fool that I was I beat the living *&#$^@!...

Pros: Reliable, low insurance Cons: Tire noise on rough pavement
I purchased a 1991 Eagle Talon (Mitsubishi Eclipse) about three months ago for only three thousand dollars. At that time, it already had over one hundred thousand miles on it, so I was skeptical about how long it would last. I have been very impressed...
