Pros: Comfortable, Roomy, Easy Handling, Pleasing to the eye, relatively decent gas mileage.
Cons: No warranty, High Mileage, Expensive Maintenance, Frequently Unreliable.
The Bottom Line: Avoid Like the Plague !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standard Dodge Caravan Body. In fairly good condition. Power windows and locks. Flimsy Bumpers front and back. Front windshield cracked. Really thought it would be a good car, because of the name.  Had a little trouble learning how to back up in it. ... read more

Served us well

by
Apr 24, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Plenty of power, comfortable, room for carrying passengers and decent cargo simultaneously, reliable.
Cons: Paint peeling, rattles on rough roads, front passenger seat design doesn't allow for sliding backward.
The Bottom Line: Good minivan. I'd buy it again.

We bought our '93 Grand Caravan in 2001. It had ~92k miles on it. 7 years and 70,000 miles later, it has been totaled in a rear-end collision. It was a workhorse, carrying my wife and our 4 kids most of those miles, and it was always reliable and ... read more

1999 Dodoge Grand Caravan All Wheel Drive

by
Jan 7, 2008 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Made it through the snow as long as the engine didn't blow. Liked the "toys".
Cons: Engine...engine...engine..oh yeah and engine=)
The Bottom Line: Never unless you have a warranty to have new engine every 12 months

I purchased my caravan used in 2003. The dealer said they put in a "new" engine. The van had approx 60K on it at the time of purchase. I drove the van for about a year and had to sink another 1500.00 engine into it. The dealer gave me a "deal" on the ... read more

1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

by
Nov 27, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: spacious interior, handling, 10 speaker infinity sound, powerful engine, super smooth ride
Cons: disappointed we cannot buy another van like this because it has changed too much
The Bottom Line: We want to buy same van, but Dodge changed this model too much in past 8 yrs. Dodge should have stuck with what worked!!!

We bought a 32,000 miles used Grand Caravan 3.8L V6 about 5 years ago. At present it has 125,000 miles, and we have never had any major problem with engine or transmission. What is extremely important with any car is regular maintenance, changing ... read more

The '96 Caravan Sport I own is the family minivan, passed down from family member to member until it finally arrived in my driveway. It was purchased new and we've kept it around for 11 years--it's held up very well through the hard-use people who've ... read more

We'll Miss Our Old Friend...

by
Feb 17, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfort and safety
Cons: Mileage (20-23mph av), rusty shock towers @203k & creepy dealers
The Bottom Line: Like anything else, if the "pros" of this vehicle are more important than the cons, go for it. Regular praying wouldn't hurt, either.

Although it came to us as a "second hander" with 93K in 1999, our Grand Caravan served us well - through three kids, annual vacations, construction projects, etc. My wife liked it because "it drives like a car". I liked it because of it's workhorse ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Compartments, radio, clever cup holders, bag hooks for groceries.
Cons: Body roll, rear quarter windows, breaks, ride.
The Bottom Line: Put your money somewhere else, you can get more for your money, a new minivan, and better features. You can also get better ride quality and just overall reliability.

The mini-van that we have is a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan SE. It is a great mini van over all. We bought the mini-van used in the year 2000. We got it for a very good price and we loved it. But in the next couple of years, some things did go wrong. ... read more

Sep 18, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Nice looks. The seats are easy to remove.
Cons: Always a problem to be fixed in any model more than a few years old.
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't buy it. The problems are numerous, usually expensive and sometimes come back.

This is the second Caravan we have owned. Similar and same problems on both of them. Unidentifiable noises in the engine. The identifiable ones are always expensive to fix. Right now I have some pin or spring being ground up in my engine and I have to ... read more

by
Jan 20, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, has all the toys
Cons: Wiper monster!!
The Bottom Line: Avoid the 2 smaller engine sizes but recommend the largest size engine (advise from a mechanic of transmissions with 20 years experience) A very close friend.

I'm not really a Dodge fan, especially of these caravans, AKA Magic Wagons, and always said I'd never own one. Well, here I am with a Magic Wagon LE. Rides great, roomy, love the captain's chairs in the middle row, room enough for the dog in the back, ... read more

1996 Dodge Grand Caravan ES - Disappointing!

by
Jan 18, 2005 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Outstanding design and versatility, plenty of room and very comfortable to drive!
Cons: Poor build quality, numerous mechanical failures and expensive repairs.
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this vehicle unless you opt for an extended bumper to bumper warranty! If insisting on a Dodge Grand Caravan, check 98 models instead!

I purchased my 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan ES in 1998 with 55,000km on the odometer. It was $26,000CDN at the time, not including taxes and various other fees. It had an extended warranty from Chrysler up to 80,000km. It was loaded with many options ... read more

by
Dec 31, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Supermodel looks, gadgets galore, Dodge's famous name and renowned quality (could be a con, however).
Cons: Scary and unreliable brakes, irritating locking system, touchy check-engine light, tuna-can construction.
The Bottom Line: Real pretty, driveable, and filled with fun gadgets; costly to maintain, numerous problems with "life-or-death" components (brakes, steering, front-end).

Here begins the sad saga of a van bought, a van loved, and a van lost... We got our '99 Grand (sport edition) in June 2004, 95,000 miles and looking sweet. The van had held up well, with very little rust. However, the test drive revealed an ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: ride, handling, driver seat, room for storage, interior and exterior trim hold up well.
Cons: Reliability questionable, repairs more expensive than a car, exterior paint job not the best.
The Bottom Line: I would be cautious and have the van checked by someone who knows vans when buying used.

The Bottom Line: Reliable, durable, almost trouble free driving for 9 years have made a happy camper here!

We have owned our 1996 Dodge Caravan SE since December 1995. At that time, we paid $17,495.00 for this, our very first minivan. We added the optional CD and Cassette AM/FM stereo and the roof rack. When we purchased this van, we did not think about ... read more

Cons: Transmission, AC, reliability
The Bottom Line: would not recommend this vehicle to my worst enemy.

The Bottom Line: I have had myriad problems with my Caravan. It could be a lemon, then again, maybe not.
