Pros: New updated looks for this year, Great ergonomics, Lots of options, Tons of room. Cons: Still very unreliable, Lots of plastic, Rattles more than necessary. The Bottom Line: With the reliability issues that plagued the 1992 Taurus, I strongly recommend you avoid it, unless the seller has proof of an AAMCO rebuilt tranny!.
The 1992 Ford Taurus was now in its 2nd generation, many car companies for 1992 had revised their sedans to look more aerodynamic, so Ford had to do something to stay on top in the style department. Unfortunately this attempt resulted in a more...

Pros: Lot of amenities, Large trunk, low service costs. Cons: fuel economy, Interior materials, road noise, interior rattles. The Bottom Line: If you just need transportation, Taurus is a great buy, If your'e looking for a little more, go with Honda or Toyota.
1992 Marked the first redesign of the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable. These cars had been launched to great fanfare in 1985 as 1986 models, mainly and most notably for their smooth and futuristic designs. By 1992, the cars weren't dated much, but did blend ...

Pros: Fast, Reliable Engine, Good Handling, Comfortable and FAST! Cons: Repair Costs, Qualified Mechanics are Scarce, Tires are Expensive The Bottom Line: A fast, reliable, fun car for folks who can appreciate over 250 HP from 3 liters of Yamaha.
The Taurus SHO is the perfect wolf in sheep's clothing. It looks like a Taurus, but it has the (Yamaha) heart of a racer. With a little after market help, the SHO can dust almost any sedan from Europe or Japan, leaving them baffled.
When...

Pros: Power, comfort, room, fuel mileage Cons: Front wheel drive, plastic, electrical problems, hard to work on The Bottom Line: If you're looking for something that will get you around, this will work. But I would only get one if it was cheap.
I inherited my 1992 Taurus from my grandfather a couple years ago. It had been well taken care of with all the scheduled maintenance. It is still in great running shape even though I have not been as thorough with the upkeep. When I got the car the first ...

Pros: Torque Filled Engine, Comfortable, Smooth Riding, Wonderful Features, Low Wind Noise, Very Roomy Cons: Very Unreliable, Easy to Damage Engine, Scary to Drive, Expensive to Fix, Mediocre Milage The Bottom Line: As wonderful as all those features may seem, its not worth the horrible unreliability of this car. There are many more sound options for the price!
The Beginning
I thought the poor 1992 Ford Taurus could use a good review. Though, unfortunately.. I don't imagine many people will be calling this car 'good' in the end, through my experience.
No, this car isn't mine....

Pros: Comfy, affordable, and reliable Cons: Haven't come across any yet
With the news of a baby on the way, I knew I would have to trade in my 2-door sports car for a family car. The thought of a "family car" was enough to throw me into a bout of morning sickness! I couldn't picture myself driving a mini-van...

Pros: Seats 7 comfortably, drives great, roomy interior. Cons: It breaks down often. The parts are cheap. The labor is staggering. The Bottom Line: It's a good third car to have if you don't have to depend on it daily since it does break down.
Last year we bought a used car. I had owned a Ford Tempo (1986) that I loved. I really like Fords. When we increased our family and needed a bigger car I was thrilled with the idea of buying a Tauras wagon. Things to love about the 1992 wagon are ...

Pros: Unbeatable dollar-for-mile value Cons: slightly slower than expected
Buying my first car four years ago I searched high and low to find what I thought to be the "perfect car" (for my needs). $400, and one lemon later, I realized that I needed to be a bit more circumspect when searching for a used car. I sifted...

Pros: Cargo Capacity, passenger space Cons: reliability, gas mileage The Bottom Line: A great all-around family hauler, I would love to recommend this vehicle, but because of its reliability I cannot.
The first serious driving lesson I ever had was in this car, so I have a certain soft spot for it. My father frighteningly guided me through the suburban roads of Concord, Massachusetts as I learned the nuances of control and timing that comprise the...

Pros: comfort, safety features Cons: several mechanical problems unresolved by Ford
A car is just a method of getting from one place to another right? Not necessarily.
My parents (both in their 70's ) decided that they wanted to purchase one final car. They figured that they would have the car until they had to quite...

Pros: It's very roomy, and comes with all the quirks. Cons: Needs constant, often expensive, maintenance.
I purchased my 92 Ford Taurus in 1999 based on my loan officer's opinion of what size loan I could handle. Obviously, he didn't figure the maintenance costs into that estimate. In less than twenty-four hours (literally) I found myself stranded on the...

Pros: Sturdy in make and great gas mileage. Cons: Expensive to replace transmission on most models.
Actually we don't own one Ford Taurus, we own two. We first bought one last year for my daughter who turned 16 and needed a car to take her from school and back, not to mention the many activities she was involved in after school.
The price...

Pros: Price, space, ride Cons: Gas Mileage
If you're looking for a reliable and safe family sedan, then look no further than the Taurus. I've had mine for nearly eight years and it still performs like the day I drove it off the dealer's lot. The car handles extremely well and has plenty of...

Pros: roomy, peppy, handling, cheap parts, good daily driver/winter beater Cons: cooling system, cant think of much more The Bottom Line: A great car to get from point "A" to point "B"
If you are looking for a car that will get you from point "A" to point "B" then this is a great car. It is sort of a cheaply made vehicle, however if you treat it right, it will work great. I love how much room there is (especially the rear 3rd ...

Pros: good reliability, long lasting Cons: crowded with 5+ people
This 1992 Ford Taurus has been a great service for me. It's really been a good car and stood the test of time(it sounds like I'm talking about a monumental building or great person or something). Seriously though, this car is one that has done quite well...
