Great little car, reliable. Noisy inside, though.

Oct 30, 2007 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very affordable, great on gas, extremely reliable.
Cons: Noisy, metal components rust badly.
The Bottom Line: For an excellent work or errand car, this is great. For luxury, climb the ladder a bit.

We have owned this car since 1994 and it now has over 250,000 miles on it. It consistently gets 35-38MPG highway. It has been extremely reliable, and I don't baby it when I drive. Some pros to the car: *Relatively easy to work on when you have ... read more

A solid vehicle indeed, it would seem

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage, great car for its year and type, and for the beginner
Cons: No cupholders are the only notable issue I've encountered thus far
The Bottom Line: A very solid buy. Decent longevity, economical, and an undeniable workhorse for new drivers, students, and similar demographics.

I live in Canada, and this here is my first vehicle. I'm an 18 year old student, and my 1992 Saturn SL1 was a hand-me-down from my mom, who bought a 2004 Honda Accord in 2004, and kindly decided to give me her old car, rather than sell it for money. ... read more

Cheap Cheap

Oct 26, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage, fun to drive, lots of pep, roomy.
Cons: uses a little oil, expensive tires!, horrible automatic seatbelts, noisy radiator fan!
The Bottom Line: Recommend for a person looking for a low cost ride. As long as you can stand a few annoyances and keep up with matinence, it should last!

Well I bought this car last year from a guy that bought it for his daughter. Turned out she couldn't drive a standard, so he had to sell it. He bought it from an older lady who did alot of highway driving, so it was taken care of quite well. When i f ... read more

The Lowdown On a Good Solid Car

by
Sep 20, 2003 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas mileage rocks, safe & mostly dependable, not obnoxiously embarassing, affordable price tag
Cons: Price tag of parts, not the coolest car on the road, bad for long trips
The Bottom Line: Reccomend for driving around town, as a first car and/or on a teeny budget. New ones definitely reccomended for about 100k miles

My Saturn SL1 was my first car, bought in 1997. The price was right, and let's face it, the second I was able to get a car, I bought one of the first ones I looked at. I drove this car for over 6 years, and although I have never owned another car (so no ... read more

Love my used Saturn SL2

by
May 31, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun sporty car, very comfortable
Cons: likes the taste of oil
The Bottom Line: I think this is a good reliable used second car for any family.

My wife and I picked up a used 1992 Saturn SL2 as a second car we needed after the birth of our daughter. I was actually very impressed with this car from the onset. I rode very nice on the test drive and the engine was very peppy for a 11 year old car. ... read more

Little Money-Sucker

by
Jan 19, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: cute, amazing engine power, light and speedy, factory CD player, automatic everything
Cons: expensive to fix, not very durable, crumbles on impact, too light in snow
The Bottom Line: There's nothing quite like a beautiful, powerful engine and I didn't know what I had until it was gone.

The car was a pretty good car, although those warning lights would just come on for no apparent reason at random times and every time, it was just a "sensor", which just happen to cost an arm and a leg to fix. Saturn takes their customers and repair ... read more

My 92' Saturn, what a barter I made!

by
Nov 4, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: great interior, smooth running engine, good body
Cons: chronic oil leak(1 quart per 3000 miles), expensive computer sensors
The Bottom Line: This is a good respectable used vehicle that you can be proud to drive! Keep a spare quart of 30 weight in the trunk though!

First off let me explain how I purchased my 4-door white 92'sl2 saturn. I traded my brother my washer and dryer(whirlpool) and my treadmill (5 years old, $1200 new(. I think I got a pretty good deal. The vehicle had 140,000 miles on it when I bought it ... read more

Great First Car. My First Love!

by
Sep 9, 2002 - Updated Sep 15, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Saver, Small, Dependable most of the time.
Cons: Parts availability, ugly shape, inside door panels very fragile, has a mind of its own.
The Bottom Line: I would get it as a beginner car or as a work car. Good on gas and cheap insurance.

Well my first real car was the 1992 Saturn SL1 which i adored and loved to death until the day a year and a half later my car had oil problems and made valve sounds, thats when i lost faith. Why you ask i lost faith? Cuz we rebuilt the bad boy engine ... read more

A great little used car, with a nightmare windshield.

by
Aug 30, 2002 - Updated Oct 19, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Good handling, dent-resistant side panels, good engine
Cons: easily dented hood, roof & trunk lid. rocker panel rust, $auto glass$
The Bottom Line: The auto glass is expensive, making me wonder what else is also going to be expensive to fix.

I bought a '92 Saturn SL (pretty much the same as the SL2, except it has a single cam instead of a twin cam on the exact same inline 4-cylinder engine (WONDERFUL engine), and the trunk has no reflector across it) Anyway, I paid $1400 for it. ... read more

The 150,000 Mile Test Drive

by
Aug 17, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Almost bulletproof, great styling & interior.
Cons: Not quite large enough.
The Bottom Line: Luxurious econobox transportation - beating out Toyotas and Hondas for the price.

I bought my Saturn SL in 1992. Without any hesitation, I'd say it was the best car I've ever bought. (At least, to this point) The interior was luxuriuous (especially compared to Toyotas and Hondas that cost more)and the engine was a good, strong ... read more

Only For The Patriotic

by
Feb 19, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Looks cool, features.
Cons: Everything else.
The Bottom Line: Not Recommended. But for those insisting on that antiquated "Buy American" crap,(Hondas and Toyotas are built here anyway) this is perhaps the only car worth owning.

This is an excellent car for those who refuse to buy imports, but those who refuse to buy imports do so at their own peril. It has been proven an overabundance of times that American cars are far from dependable. I knew this when i bought this car, but I ... read more

Great little car

by
Oct 21, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good starter car, reliable, cheap, excellent value
Cons: Not the coolest car
The Bottom Line: For what you get for what you pay, nothing beats a Saturn.

My parents bought me a 92 Saturn for my first car and it was a great decision by them. I've had no problems at all with The Saturn, as I like to call it. For some reason, I've become attached to this car, maybe because it's my first. Pros ... read more

Good car, wish it lasted longer

by
Aug 28, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to drive, good acceleration, good handling
Cons: Mine broke down, big time!
The Bottom Line: It's a great first car, but maybe a little too small for expanding families.

I recently parted with my 1992 Saturn SL2. I had the 5 Speed automatic with manual doors & windows, cobalt blue exterior (often mistaken for black) and tan interior. It was my first car, and I acquired it when I was 19, the summer before my Junior year ... read more

Small Saturns

by
Jun 28, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: stylish
Cons: small engine, undependable
The Bottom Line: I most likely would not own another Saturn

I recently came into the possession of a used 1992 Saturn SL1, and I have been very disappointed with this car. First of all it's not the sportiest looking car, even though it was probably stylish at the time it's just not the best looking car. The ... read more

I will always own a SATURN....

by
May 20, 2001 - Updated May 23, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: RELIABLE! No dents, no rust, great mileage, front-wheel drive
Cons: Automatics have no power, no power steering, no ABS
The Bottom Line: Not the most quiet or comfortable car on the market, but still one of the best in my opinion. I hope they start making trucks and SUV's!

I bought this from a guy back in 1994 because he was from South Carolina and the car didn't have air conditioning. It was unbearable for him so he brought it up north. Now, I was driving a 1981 Grand Am and was very pleased with it but it was time for ... read more

by
Feb 27, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable and sporty; great car for two people
Cons: Chronic electrical problems
The Bottom Line: Assuming that the problems I've had are not systemic, this is a wonderful car you can get used for a great price.

I just chalked up 80,000 miles in my 1992 Saturn SL2 a few weeks ago. When I first bought it, I never thought that would happen...I had a habit of getting a new car every two years, and fully expected to do the same thing with this. Well, ... read more

"Our Saturn is the Best!"

by
Feb 17, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good gas mileage, standard options of a more expensive car
Cons: Uses a little oil at Interstate speeds
The Bottom Line: We would definitely recommend a Saturn, as we have found it to be relatively trouble free.

We love our 1992 Saturn SL2. We now have approximately 60,000 miles on it and it still runs, looks and handles like a brand new car. We recently took a 4,000 mile trip, finding the car both comfortable and economical. We had a problem ... read more
