Pros: Engine runs forever, amazing amount of room for a car this size, zippy little thing. Cons: Quite expensive to maintain, It's no sports car. The Bottom Line: If you can find one that has had regular maintenance, it's a reliable car for the money. The engine will last practically forever and general build quality is very good.
I bought my white '92 Jetta 2 door in April 2002 because I wanted a reliable car in decent condition for a reasonable price. The body really has almost no rust at all, which is extremely rare for an 11 year old car in Montreal. In the 5 months I've owned ...

Pros: fuel economy, trendy appearance, handles well, good interior heating, lots of trunk space Cons: tempermental car - lots of repairs, AC, high price of VW parts, uncomfortable seats, poor suspension, little engine power
I purchased my 1992 Jetta Turbo Diesel for several reasons. First of all, it was a trendy looking compact car without the sky high price tag. A big selling point was also the fuel economy of a diesel engine.
Since purchasing this vehicle, I...

Pros: Reliablity, Durability Cons: none
I bought a used 1992 Jetta Turbo Deisel. It has been the best purchase of my life. Currently my Jetta has almost 400,000 kms on it (that's 250000 miles)! It's still running great. The fuel mileage is remarkable(5liters/100 km -- not sure what that is...

Pros: Great mileage, very dependable, very good used purchase Cons: no glove department, very small, that is The Bottom Line: Bottom line. I am convinced if I bought a new or used car it would be a VW Jetta!!
I call this car my ladybug. I bought this car used and to be quite honest, this is the best used car I've ever bought. I shy away from used cars, but I lucked out on this car. The only unhappiness I have with this car is the glove compartment is...

Pros: roomy, did the 1/4 mile in 16 seconds at stock, sounds cool, huge trunk. Cons: not a very good stereo system, squeaky power steering belts. The Bottom Line: If you have a chance to buy one of these cars under $5000 I would strongly recommend it.
I went and did the quarter mile with my car and it did better than I expected, 16.3 seconds with a stock engine,no tune ups except for the tires(Goodyear Eagle GT's). I had it at 90 mph when I crossed the finish line. One time at school I crammed 10...

Pros: gas mileage, looks good in black, tranny and motor can last over 300,000 km Cons: needs only german parts= $$$$, every month or two i spent 600$ to repair
i bought this car in febuary of this year for 2000 cdn. it had low mileage at 164,000 km so i took a chance. it was good untill i had to give it a complete tune up. i thought to myself i can get parts for cheaper prices, but i found out that i needed bosch parts because this car was made in germany. i was happy with the fuel efficiency it had 25 mpg in the city but in 4 months i dished out 1600 cdn in repairs, and i found out that i had to dish out another 2000cdn to do my suspension, flywheel & torque converter, windshield, and camm. is all this spending of money worth it for me?

Pros: Clean european styling, personality, handling and reliability. Cons: Weak door handles, somewhat expensive parts.
I purchased my 1992 Volkwagen Jetta GL in 1996, with 90,000 miles on it. Since that time I have cranked out 100,000 more miles on it and been to many interesting places in this car. The design of the A2 VW chassis attracted me to this car when making the purchase. I bought the car for it's unique European design, and the "thin wallet" affordability. During the time through regular maintenance, I have only had to replace wear items on the car. The motor and transmission have been bulletproof. The only concerns some may have about the car are some ergonomic factors, such as door handles.
