Big Ole Dinosaur Taurus Wagon 1993 Gasket Blown!

by kathyacollins
Apr 19 '07

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Comfortable Ride Lots of room nice night interior lights and dash and panel lights
Cons: head gasket bad cup holder gas cap door sticks in winter weather
The Bottom Line: I'd warn anyone about the head gasket issue. Had to pay over $1600 when mine blew at 85K miles. No one tries to steal it. Really a hippie car. lol

I wanted a cheap large vehicle last summer to carry moving boxes and craft show tables and found a 1993 Taurus Wagon (purple), for the price of $1400. I test drove and inspected it myself. Rode like a dream for the test drive and first week. Only had 80K ... read more

My First Ford

Feb 17 '04

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Very Little Rust and has a Very Solid frame. Builds lower body strength while pushing
Cons: Bad Electrical system. Cheep looking enterer. Needs daily repairs. A big money pit
The Bottom Line: It is a money pit. I will not take one if someone gave it to me. I wasted so much money buying and repairing it.

This was the second car I have ever owned. I got it with the money from my grad party. It was a great car for about one week. The first thing was small the rear view mirror feel off but the same day things got a worse. The headlights would turn off while ... read more

by jomathew
May 09 '03 - Updated Dec 22 '03

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Room, Access to controls, leg room, trunk
Cons: Reliability, Battery/Electrical, AC problems, defective engine sensors, interior dash board materials are subpar.
The Bottom Line: I donot recommend this vehicle to anyone (well except George Bush). horrible gas mileage, and frequent repairs, and hard to find parts make this car a sub-par vehicle.

DECEMBER 22, 2003 - ALERT UPDATE: This car has put about 3,000 miles since I inherited it from my uncle for 0.00 dollars. So far despite the problems that a normal OLD car has the car pretty much handles well in my opinion. But again I have done ... read more

Good A to B transportation

by surreal_2003
Feb 19 '03

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy, 220lb. ft. of torque, been reliable so far, suspension works well.
Cons: Lack of style, not enough HP, interior materials, not fond of spirited driving
The Bottom Line: Like any car, a good Taurus can be worthy transportation. Quality depends primarily on the maintenance and driving habits of previous owner. A good value.

I am overall very pleased with my Taurus. I am a student and my budget was tight. Accords of similar vintage cost roughly double (and up) of what I paid for this Taurus. Car was purchased with just under 140,000 on the odometer. Car currently has ... read more

Good car, if it's updated... TIPS ON USED CAR BUYING INCLUDED

by laserwiz
Jan 15 '02

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Good looks, drives good, handles good
Cons: apparently rushed
The Bottom Line: A great car, provided that it has all the updates applied to it to resolve what seems to be engineering sloppiness on Ford's part.

There have been two serious problems with the Taurus and Sable vehicles. Mainly, it's the transmission. The AXOD and AXOD-E automatic transmissions. Introduced in 1986, these things have apparently been designed in haste. It's noteworthy to ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: package contains power everything and a great JBL, Ford System.
Cons: high maintenance
The Bottom Line: Stay away from it because of problems. And if u think recalls help the 3.8 L V6 has to be in a 94 for them to fix it.

First of all I love Fords. I think they are good cars but the 93 Taurus has caused us some trouble. First I bought it about 3 years ago. It has power everything, a good sound system, and a sunroof. But we began to have problems. The 3.8 L Fuel Injected ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: cheap, dependable, durable
Cons: poor interior, acceleration, and resale value
The Bottom Line: Buy it if you want to spend new SUV money on a fun second car you can enjoy (i.e. Acura TL, CL, Toyota Solara, etc)

I do not own a taurus but I did have the chance to drive my boss' taurus wagon for a day and overall I found it to be a good car for the price. I believe my model year he owns is a 1994. In any case, the car is mechanically great after racking up over ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Attractive, roomy, comfortable, and easy to handle
Cons: Notorious for vapor locking in hot weather
The Bottom Line: Would be a good car if it were not well known for vapor locking in hot weather

I bought a used 1993 Ford Taurus a couple years ago. I am a young female who knows nothing about cars, but for once I wanted to try choosing my own car without my father's help. I like the size and appearance of the car. It is still going now with ... read more

Pros: I LOVE MY TAURUS!
Cons: As always with ford, not easy to fix things yourself
The Bottom Line: Very good reliable car. Good choice, would definately recommend.

I got my 1993 taurus 3 years ago, and absolutely love it... I bought it used, and in the 3 years i've had it, i've only had to have general maintenence work done on it. Never any major problems. I am a fan of bigger cars, and I love the amount of room I ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Paint
Cons: Everything

This is in addition to my August 15th Opinion regarding engine problems, which required the replacement of two engines due to head gasket problems. I also noted that the transmission was replaced with 32K miles for 2,000. The Ford company ... read more

Pros: Roomy, well designed, comfortable

I bought an 89 Taurus wagon with the 3.8-liter engine a few years ago because I needed a roomy station wagon. It was well designed, comfortable and convenient. But it was constant trouble. Like several reviewers I've heard of, it cracked its head gasket ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: combines performance and luxury with a low cost
Cons: like any car, mileage takes it's toll on it

Simply, this car has all the components of a sports car with many luxuries at a low cost. I have the FUEL INJECTED 3.8 LITER V-6 monster of an engine which produces well over it's advertised 140 HORSEPOWER. When I give it a rev that racing sound puts ... read more

Pros: just a bad car....
Cons: comfortable ride

I think i would rather run into a brick wall 50000 times than buy another ford. I bought the car in 1998....its a 1993 silver taurus. Right after i took it home it had to be brought back in the same week. Right there i should have known to leave it ... read more

Pros: nice luxury equipment, great performance, awesome price
