Pros: Decent Roominess, 4.0 engine reliability, does well in snow, safety Cons: road noise, parts cost, can nickel and dime you to death, ride The Bottom Line: Not as off road capable as the Cherokee, but roomier and nicer inside. Probably should have been badged a Dodge, not a Jeep.
I purchased a 1994 Grand Cherokee in 2003. It was a Laredo model, with an Automatic and 4WD and the 4.0 liter I-6. It had 93k miles, and a grille guard and taillight guards. I drove the vehicle daily until mid-2006 when it got ... read more

Pros: Power, Versatility, Reliability, Reliability, Reliability Cons: Ride, Gas Mileage, Two Wheel Drive Traction, Doors Fall Off The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a reliable, versatile, and unique vehicle that can do anything you want it to (4WD), the Cherokee is for you.
I can now officially say that I have driven a car until the doors fell off. I purchased my green 1994 Jeep Cherokee SE 4-Door 2WD 6 cylinder in 2000, used, with 60,000 miles on the odometer. Today it has 130,000. Throughout these eight years, the only ... read more

Pros: 1. excellent in medium snow (less than 12") conditions,
2. extremely tight turning radius Cons: hi torque can cause accelerated slips in wet weather
known for cooling system failures The Bottom Line: If you want a spunky SUV that can handle the mud & snow or carry a half ton in the back, then this is a fun truck to have.
I had wanted a Cherokee since I graduated college in 1990 and was further encouraged when a friend reported he had had his cherokee for more than 200,000 miles. Finally bought my 94 jeep in 98 with less than 30,000 miles. I now have nearly 160,000 ... read more

Pros: Heating unit heats up fast, no problems with A/C - once the unit was fixed. Cons: 4-wheel drive not automatic, need to shift into gear - when turning, feels sluggish. The Bottom Line: Even with the problems I've had with my JGC Laredo, I would still buy a used Jeep when the time comes.
In 2003, my uncle gave me his 1994 JGC Laredo 4WD - at the time is was in good-to-excellent condition, with one little "ding" on the right front side (by the wheel) due to a shopping carriage at a center, and only 87K miles on it. Jeep has been exposed ... read more

Pros: Pretty much everything! Cons: Fuel consumption...but well worth it! The Bottom Line: I would encourage anyone to try out a Jeep Grand Cherokee because of the safety, reliability and room. Plus it's a 4x4.
I have always owned cars and usually small ones. After getting into 3 accidents within a year and a half (not my fault) I decided I needed something larger. If not for my safety, for the safety of my kids. I chose a Jeep Grand Cherokee because I ... read more

Pros: fast, powerful, turning radius, real 4x4. Cons: rough ride, prone to oil leaks, gas guzzler. The Bottom Line: MPG make this so-so contender.
I have owned 3 Cherokee's, and have to say they are cool trucks. The boxy classic look is appealing. Also, this is a truck that you can actually take off road as opposed to some luxury SUV's. The 4.0l has a lot of power (200hp to be exact), can easily ... read more

Pros: Reliable, Attractive curb appeal, 4-wheel drive. Cons: Gas mileage, transmission and a/c problems. The Bottom Line: Good truck, if you could get a good price and have a mechanic check it out, buy it.
I bought this vehicle in 2001 used for $5,500 with about 50,000 miles on the odometer. Right away I noticed that it needed some maintenance. I had to replace the steering dampner, some hoses, the starter and the brakes. Once these items were fixed the ... read more

HERE'S THE STORY: Our 94 Jeep Cherokee Country is/was driven by my wife who loves it. It handles very nicely. We're city dwellers and I don't think we've even had this vehicle on a dirt road. Unless my wife snuck off on an expedition that I wasn't aware ... read more

Pros: A solid, reliable and strong SUV Cons: Average mileage. With age, cosmetic things (plastic, rubber, fabrics) have started to wear. The Bottom Line: I would get another one in a heartbeat. It has been excellent, highly reliable and comfortable on long trips as well as around town and off road.
I bought my Laredo new back in '94 and have had it ever since. I now have around 130,000 miles on it, and it still is a great car. If you are looking for a good used car, I recommend this one. I don't normally take it into the woods or off-roading, so ... read more

Pros: Space, great aftermarket availablity, It's a Jeep! Cons: Fuel economy...what do you expect for a honkin V-8? The Bottom Line: Buy it...you have it a long time and have lots of fun owning it! Parts are easy to find and affordable!

Pros: Best 4 wheel drive available, power, trailer towing, easy to drive, park. Dependable Cons: Its still a truck, wind noise, cramped rear seat, dated interior looks, rattles The Bottom Line: A truck, not a car. Would I reccomend it for a friend? It depends. Yes, if that friend wanted a real SUV and not a car.
A long time ago someone asked me which was a better car. When I was looking in 1994 for a SUV the choice seemed to boil down to the Jeep or Toyota 4 Runner. I answered neither. They both are trucks, and the Jeep was a better truck. It had a better four ... read more

Pros: Good ride and handling, Stylish Cons: Poor reliability/expensive "maintenance", terrible gas mileage The Bottom Line: PLAGUED with PROBLEMS. Poor service at 4 out of 5 dealerships. Expensive to buy, expensive to own. Gas hog.
With the amount of money we have sunk into repairing my wife's '94 Grand Cherokee Laredo, we could have bought a small commuter vehicle. While it drives nicely and looks great, steer clear of a Grand Cherokee if you are in the market for an SUV.

We've had our 94 Grand Cherokee since 10/94 when we purchased it with 7000 miles on it. We have had VERY little go wrong mechanically with this vehicle, and it still looks great and rides very well. We now have 95,000 miles on it, and are comfortable ... read more

The jeep is an all around great car. I was surprised at the way it drove. It was very smooth on the street. It got a little rough on the highway but this didn't bother me at all. It sails across the pavement. The stereo systems is decent. The back seats ... read more

Pros: Powerful, can you say forget a v8? 4x4 goes anywhere and I do mean anywhere. Cons: Pricey maintainence, but easy to do if you've got any clue about engines. The Bottom Line: Want to laugh in the face of other SUV'ers? Purchase a Cherokee and forget the small stuff. There is only 1 and there's a reason all SUV's are called JEEPs!!!
I've had several Cherokee's since my first '84. I've had the 2.5 4cyl, a 4.0 6 w/o HO and now one with the High Output. Not too many cars let alone Suv's can come close in the stop light races. The 4x4 system is Jeep-unique, there's no stoping this ... read more
