Pros: Handles well. Good looking car.
Cons: I think just about everything on it broke!
The Bottom Line: I would NOT recomend this thing to anyone short of a masochist. Sorry Ford.

I'll start this out bluntly. This car was the worst vehicle i have ever owned. It was nice at first. A very attractive and well manered car to start with. Handling was exceptional. Ours was a white 4dr sedan -w- all the usuall ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: A cheap used car
Cons: A cheap used car
The Bottom Line: Found On Road Dead applied to the car a few times. Stay away. If you own one now, sell it and but a used Altima or Civic.

I purchased a '95 Contour GL in Aug of '97 for $9000. It had only 29k kiles on it. It had the 2.0 four cylinder and 5-speed. Before the warranty expired, the deal replaced free the rack and pinion steering syste, the A/C blower, condenser and ... read more

Nov 13, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: nice sporty look, great amenities, comfortable, control on the road, nice radio.
Cons: costly repairs. unreliable. Cheaply made. Repairs have been major.
The Bottom Line: I recommend Ford to give everyone who purchased a Contour their money back. Don't consider purchasing the car. not a worthy investment. Dealers and mechanics run from it.

I bought a used Contour in 1998. At that time it had 34k miles on it. I wanted the car right when I saw it and wanted it even more after test driving. I had some trouble getting the car to pass MD inspection. Minor stuff. Brakes etc.. It took a ... read more

Ford's Blue Oval Should be a Lemon

by
Jul 24, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Good acceleration with the V6; exceptional handling.
Cons: Poor ergonomics; inexcusably poor quality; indifferent dealer service.
The Bottom Line: Ford should publicly apologize to every person who bought a Contour and offer to buy the car back.

I bought the Contour in November, 1975 as a second car. About a month after I drove it off the lot I started hearing a rubbing noise from the front. The problem turned out to be a front stabilizer bar bushing. Unfortunately the bushing is "pressed" ... read more

The Bottom Line: Just be careful when buying this vehicle.

Remember my last review “Definitely not an American BMW?” well I’m back with an update! Once I started liking my Contour, it decides to upset me once again. It is almost a guarantee, at the end of every month it is time to take it back to the Ford ... read more

Pros: Nice factory radio

The Bottom Line: Don't even look at a Contour

I have had nothing but problems with my contour since I bought it. Within two weeks the cup holders broke. They are ade from flimsy plastic located in between the front seats. Next the driver's side head rest broke ($280 to fix!!). So needles to say I ... read more

Jun 1, 2001 - Updated Jul 4, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Good handling
Cons: Cramped back seat, fragile suspension pieces, and the worst automatic transmisson ever made
The Bottom Line: This is a trouble-prone model and strongly recommend avoiding it and related Mercury Mystique. This car cost me a fortune in repairs.

I purchased a 1995 Ford Contour in August, 1997. The car had terrific handling and decent performance from the 2.0 liter 4-banger. For the first 6 months I thought I made a wise decision. First it was the little things...both ... read more

Pros: Fantastic 6 cyl engine
Cons: Brakes and other reliability issues
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this car if you are looking for an appliance. But if you want a family performance sedan, look no further.

I bought this car after reading several positive reviews in the auto magazines. It has been everything I hoped for, considering my budget and needs. I needed a four door sedan, for the kids sake. However, I wanted a six cyl. engine with a 5 ... read more

'95 Contour

by
Feb 19, 2001 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfort...leather seats feel oh-so-fine
Cons: Performance...the Zetec with an auto tranny (a 3-speed at that) sucks
The Bottom Line: If it's good enough for the FAA, it's good enough for a punk kid.

We're in the process of buying our oldest girl her first car. We found a '95 Contour for 6 grand, nice shape with leather seats. A test drive made me glad I have a 5-speed stick in my ZX2 (the Contour has a 3-speed auto), but a 17-year-old girl doesn't ... read more

Cons: Depreciates like crazy; First Contour Model; Looks are Ordinary

I bought a champagne-colored Ford Contour LX with the V6 Duratec engine back in November 1995. Five years later, the loan is paid off, and the car still runs like the day I bought it. There are many monikers for FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily being the most ... read more
