Pros: Rugged, comfortable, dependable, roomy Cons: not the best gas mileage, some repairs will be costly The Bottom Line: Mercedes quality at a Sears price..
This is about our 1997 Misubishi Montero.... there is no current posting for our year. After several years and many miles I feel qualified to state that our 1997 Montero is a dream come true. I have previously written about my Montero on this ...

Pros: Great Design, Extremely Comfortable, Good Size, Good Features Cons: Mediocre Gas Mileage, Lacks Power The Bottom Line: An SUV you can trust and look darn good doing it.
The Montero is one of only a few SUVs I'd ever own. Let me explain some of the reasons why.
Safety
In this day of the ridiculously-sized Ford Excursion and Expedition, driving a small vehicle becomes more and more dangerous as it...

Pros: Reliable, tough and luxurious. Cons: Slightly under-powered for it's size. The Bottom Line: This is a great rugged purpose built truck with all the comforts one could desire. These vehicles constantly win the Paris-Dakar rally. Own one and you'll know why!
This review is for the 1995 Montero SR.
The first time I drove a Montero was on my honeymoon in Arizona in late 93. Over 1000 miles were spent very far off-road in a two week period and this vehicle (a 94 model)did not disappoint at all....

Pros: Size, reliability, manual drive, three rows of seats Cons: Climate control system, lean on curves
I have a 1995 Montero, bought new. The three rows of seats (last row folds up against the sides; second row folds flat or accordions up against the back of the front seat)are terrific for separating kids, carrying a lot of kids (back seat and last seat...

Pros: Comfy, easy to take 5, safe, alright offroad, nice stuff Cons: Too tall, not wide enough for height, heavy duty shocks makes a harsh ride, leans quite a bit turns. Bit unstable.
What a big tall SUV. I might say, the design needs to be improved. A bit sluggish and should bring a V-8 engine standard. Breaks pretty good and you can stuff a bunch of stuff in the back. Pretty good offroad, but I haven't tried it on serious bad stuff....

Pros: Roomy, rugged and reliable. Low key SUV with a different kind of character. Rally influenced. Cons: Vague steering, reels noticeably when taking sharp corners, outward rearview. The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend the Montero because it is a low key, roomy, rugged and reliable.
I have owned my stodgy utilitarian for three years now and can report that I've had no significant problems. This is a low maintenance SUV that is low key, roomy, rugged and reliable. What I like the most is that its origins don't lie with any other...

Pros: Style, controls, features, comfort, suspension Cons: access to rear seats, slight lack of torque, hard to reach spark plugs. The Bottom Line: I would buy another one with no hesitation.
We recently purchased a 1995 Montero LS (flew down to Texas to pick it up).
So far we are very pleased with the car. I am still undecided if it's a car or a truck. I think of it as a diminutive Suburban. Speaking of Suburbans, this Montero...

Pros: Rugged, reliable, lots of space, lasts years with maintainance and service. Cons: 4x4 system under-developed, lazy in 4x4 mode, some design flaws obvious in winter conditions. The Bottom Line: Pajero/Shogun is a good 4x4, but I'd go instead for a Land Rover Discovery or Toyota Land Crusier for full-time 4x4.
I drive a 1987 Pajero with 489,000km (only!) on the metre. I have also driven newer mid-90s Pajeros. I start with the good points. The Pajero (badged as Shogun in the UK) is a very capable 4x4. The engine (TD 2.5 litre unit) is extremely durable, ...

This is our second full size Montero. We've been hauling our 3 kids everywhere in these things. Great off-road, excellent up hill hi speed acceleration, terrific in snow. You see a lot of them in mountain country.
Has the best...

Boy, I wish my parents had "forced" this vehicle upon me back when I was at the age when my parents might have bought me a vehicle! (See other reviews) This is a wonderful and versatile vehicle! We bought this used two years ago, and it now has 80,000...

'95 Montero is a quality truck

Pros: high quality, comfortable, fun to drive Cons: cost of replacement parts
I have owned my '95 Montero for about 2 years now, and it is still going strong with approximately 106K miles on it. It is amazing how well the body (paint, metal, etc..) has held up without rusting, etc.. This truck is very durably built.
Soon after buying it, the truck would die-out at low RPM, so we had to replace the oxygen something-er-uther. Also, there was a gasket seal leaking. After having these things replace, I've had now problems at all with this truck.
It is very comfortable to drive and seems to have ample power. I have done some light off-roading with it and it performs just fine in 4WD, especially with locked differential. I have experienced no electrical problems and almost now rattling, etc..
Overall, I love this truck. It rides better (firm, no rattles) than most 2-yr old American cars. The Japanese attention to ergonomics, comfort, and quality is evident in the design.
