Pros: savagely fast, surprising comfort, decent fuel mileage all things considered, insane handling Cons: Bad in rain or snow, premium fuel, insurance, average factory stereo The Bottom Line: Buy it. It gives you the hot looks and performance of far more expensive cars.
My father owns a 1996 Chevrolet Corvette with the LT1 and an automatic transmission. I've driven it fairly extensively and here are my impressions: Styling The C4 was designed in the early 80s, but for all that, this is one hot ride. It ...

Pros: Fast, Burnouts, Looks great. Cons: Ergonomics, steering. The Bottom Line: This particular example was well sorted and trouble free. A good car and a relative bargain in the used marketplace these days.
This was a car owned by my dad, which was sold not too long ago. It was one of the last C4's purchased, and GM had an unbelievable giveaway incentive on them. Purchase price listed below is only an estimate. I'm not really sure.
Overall this...

Pros: * Brutal acceleration
* track-car handling
* head-turning looks
* exclusivity Cons: * High-cost repair fees
* Other drivers' behaviour on the road
* parking-lot paranoia
The Bottom Line: Huge performance and fun for much less than you think
This is about the best bang for buck on the road at time of writing (spring 2007). Being 2 generations behind the current corvette you are looking at huge depreciation for a car that's only a few years old and generally very well looked after (most ...

Pros: Fast; eye catching; fun to drive; beautiful Cons: Noisy at speeds of 55 or higher The Bottom Line: If you want a fast, fun 2 seater that will give you pleasure to no end for under $30K, then this is the car for you.
I own a 6spd '96 Collectors Edition coupe, and love it. I previously owned a '92 coupe and will say this is a better car all around. It has less rattles and squeaks, and because of the LT4, it's faster, has more torque and is a lot more fun to drive than...

Pros: LT4 Engine, Power-Handling, Attractive Styling,(Clamshell Hood), Corvette Pedigree. Cons: Entry/Exit (High Sills), Bolt on/off roof panels, Electronic Instrumentation (although improved over early, models)
The 1996 is without a doubt the best of the C4 issue in fit-finish and reliability. In my view; low mileage, well cared for special versions of the C4...whether the 1990 ZR1, The 40th aniversary issue, the 1996 CE (LT4) and GS have seen their lows in depreciation and are now starting to climb in value. The rapidity at which GM is now replacing Corvette models (C7 in 2010) is moving the C4 more swiftly into collector car territory. There are many who prefer the sleek sports car styling of the C4 over the newer (Race Car Looking) entries.
My 1996 CE LT4 is my second C4 and is a beautiful car. I have had it only months and have received many nice comments and even an unsolicited attractive offer to purchase it. I have made a few minor modifications the most important off which I *Highly-Recommend is the purchase of a *Hypertech Program to reset the computer as among other things, the engine runs a bit hot at factory settings. I plan to have this 1996 CE for many years to come.
