Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Interior space and convenience. Gas mileage. City parking.
Cons: Maintenance. Shifting.
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't buy it. I got it from a guy who fixed it up, but it will never be fixed for long.

I was 18 years old and needed a car for $1,000 or less. I wanted something that was small and good on gas, but would also be good for surf safaris and what not. I saw an automatic 1996 Ford Aspire posted and bought it for $930 with 117,000 miles on it. ... read more

GAS SAVER WORTH THE MONEY

by

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: More room than any hatchback, 40MPG, can fit in any parking spot!
Cons: No power steering, 0-60 in 3.5 years, radio speakers suck.
The Bottom Line: Great Run-About Car for work and tasks!

This car is a diamond in the rough. For those of us that need a work vehicle that is. I am a college student 25 miles away from my campus and 20 miles away from my place of employment. Wanting to shy away from putting excess miles on my focus, I found a ... read more

A fine car for what it cost.

Aug 9, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good Gas Mileage, Inexpensive
Cons: Underpowered, No overdrive button on the automatic transmission
The Bottom Line: A fine car for the money.

I have read all the reviews of this car. I think they do not paint a clear enough picture of this auto. I purchased mine used (45,000 miles) as a commuter vehicle. So far it meant all my exceptions. All the ... read more

What a deal!

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Gas Mileage, Reliability, Price!
Cons: Too-small side mirrors, rock hard seats
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend - its cheap to buy and maintain.

This is the second least glamorous car I have ever owned, the first being a 1988 Ford Festiva. But this car is truly worthy of my respect. Most people fuss if a car doesn't have air conditioning, an automatic transmission or an AM/FM cassette. The ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 10 Recommended: No

Pros: Gas mileage has been great
Cons: Only 67k and I'm getting ready to put a fourth transmission in it
The Bottom Line: Do not buy; unless you don't mind high dollar repairs, and unresponsive results from the service department

Although my 1996 automatic Aspire runs well, has decent pickup for a smaller car, and gets great gas mileage, I have been unfortunate to have had to replace the transmission 2 times and the transmission just went out again, so will be a 3rd time. The ... read more

A Buy for Students and Anyone who wants to save on gas!

by
Mar 17, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Size, Miles per gallon, and Reliability
Cons: Power (Not Enough)
The Bottom Line: I gave the Aspire Five stars because it is a great car for the money. It is also good on gas.

I bought this car as a repairable for $3k and I am glad I did. In the condition I have it in now, it is valued at $6,000. Anyway, it is a great first car for a student and is very safe with dual front Air Bags. The seating is comfortable for about a few ... read more

Aspiring to be a car!

by

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Dependable, good gas mileage
Cons: Poor resale value, no frills - manual steering.

I love my little Aspire, as silly as that might sound. It's the most stripped-down vehicle I've ever owned - kind of like the original VW Bug only more room. I bought it used (29,000 miles) because I was moving to the big city and wanted something that ... read more

A Don't Buy!

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Great Mileage
Cons: NOT family friendly or a fast car

We purchased a used 96' Ford Aspire. It looked great. For a small car, it's even roomy. We got the two door. What a mistake. It's family unfriendly if you have small children in car seats. Getting small children in and out of the back is a pure ... read more

Dec 30, 1999 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A surprising amount of interior room and a reliable and economical engine
Cons: Poor engine performance

The Ford Aspire is the successor car to the Ford Festiva which was introduced in 1988. The Aspire was introduced in 1995 and was no longer imported after the 1997 model year. The car was apparently a victim of the American public's desire for big cars ... read more

Pros: great seats for bad backs good visibility parks anywhere embarasses the neighbors reliable
Cons: Loud above 50mph - bring earplugs on long trips lacks power
I've had my Aspire for 4 years now. It has been very reliable I've only had to do basic oil and tranny fluid changes It gets 28-40mpg Mine is an automatic Yes, the engine is weak - get over it - did you think you were buying a fast car? Its ... read more
