Pros: Comfortable on Long Trips, Off Road Abilities Cons: Transmission Shifter, Support from Bench Seat, Off the Line Power The Bottom Line: My Ranger served me well for many years and I can't wait until a new one is sitting in the driveway.
Background: I was not in the market for a new car when I bought Old Blue. But one day I was on my way home from work and someone made a illegal left hand turn just as I entered an intersection and my 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva was no more. Even ...

Pros: A proven DOMESTIC product, reliable, easy to operate, easy on the wallet. Cons: Right now, it is a bit worn but it suits us fine. The Bottom Line: FORD has a consistent winner here - most drivers will prefer the V-6 engine for heavy loads. Very pleasing overall but watch out for costly repairs.
Talk about suffering! After all the years of costly repairs, I made the mistake of buying another Toyota - a 1988 "4-Runner" - one that had 200K miles on it but one I fancied would be a 'hobby' car. One that I could tinker with and be able to drive in...

Pros: price, looks, utility Cons: handling a bit iffy
I bought this 96 Ranger extended cab a few months ago, and so far I'm glad I did. Originally I was looking for a compact car because I commute about 20 miles every day, and gas prices were on the way up. But I drove literally every compact (and most...

Pros: 4wd system, price when purchased used Cons: resale, seat comfort, 4cyc
I bought my 96 Ranger Xl Reg. Cab 4x4 as a leftover in Aug. 97. The truck fit the budget but came to find out the re-sale value was not there. My truck included fog lights, 4wd, 5sp manual, 2.3l, alloys, light security system, and am/fm cassette... not...

Pros: Not a bad value. Cons: Less reliable than it should be. The Bottom Line: Not as reliable as Toyota Tundra; Ford cuts too many corners.
Following is the original review I wrote a little more than three years ago. I still have the truck, and (as of 3/2004) it has nearly 100,000 miles on it. Since I wrote the review, I've revised my opinion of the truck, mainly because of all the stuff ...

Pros: Low Maintence, Dependable Cons: NONE
I bought my truck used in 1996. It was a program vehicle. I have used it everyday since then and have found it to be the very best vehicle I have ever owned. This is top priority for a woman in her 50's. We have to have a dependabel vehicle. My 1996...

Pros: Very dependable and very easy to fix. Very easy to get parts for when needed. Cons: Small towing load and when these trucks get older they needed constant attention to details. The Bottom Line: This is a good truck to own because it gives you the capability of a truck with great gas mileage. It also is very reliable and easy to fix.
Many people are saying that Dodge is the truck of the future and that no other truck compares to the new small Dodge pickups that are on the market. But this writer disagrees with this statement. The new dodge trucks are alright but cant quite ...

Pros: Good milage, nice bed, fun for 2WD. Cons: LACK OF POWER, whineing, hard reverse and 2nd gear The Bottom Line: bet this was an amazing car new, but for 137k, I think its still going strong, especially for an american car, which seems to die earlier.
This is my first car and I have had it for about 6 months. So far, I have really enjoyed it.as with everything in the world there are its share of problems. It has about the power you would expect from a 2.3 liter truck. it is also amazing considering ...

Pros: Excellent dependability and economical to operate. Fun to drive, with the manual transmission. Nice looking with the XLT package and the sport wheels. Cons: Not enough room in the cab. The factory stereo is just OK.
I purchased my Ranger new in March of 1996. I purchased it because I needed a truck to use while remodeling a home, but I wanted a vehicle that would be small enough to commute to work.
I picked the Ranger over the other small...

Pros: You won't have to worry about deciding where to put your money. Cons: I'm still making payments on this bloody thing! The Bottom Line: Problems with almost every system on it. Stay away! I'll never buy another Ford in my life!
This is positively the worst truck I have ever owned. I always drove Nissans before this, but I sold my old 93 Nissan ex. cab, and bought a newer 96 Ford Ranger STX model. This is the fancy model. It has Automatic, 4X4, all power options including ...

Pros: Great looks, dependable, comfortable, great ergonomics and attention to detail Cons: Seats could be better
This is my fifth Ranger. Although it is a 1996, it still looks as new as a 2000 model. Absolutely dependable, quite comfortable and roomy even for someone as large as myself at 240 lbs and 6'6". My previous Ranger, a 1995 was probably the best...

Pros: Very reliable, cheap to own. Cons: 4 cyl is adaquate but wish I had some reserve power for passing and hills. The Bottom Line: Excellent transportation for low cost. Perfect for the homeowner that does occasional project but also wants reliable and comfort for commutes.
I was looking for my first truck in 1997 and after looking at all the makes, I settled on the Ford Ranger. I chose the Ranger because of the Consumer Reports Rec and the price.
Went to a dealer, in Feb 1997, that had leftover 1996 models....

I was in the market for a small truck, I looked around and I found that the ranger offered the most for your money, although I later found that the resale on these trucks drop very quikly.
For less then I could have bought a toyota standard cab...
