a love (?) story

by
Nov 15, 2008 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: reasonably economical, smooth responsive powertrain, bulletproof reliability, excellent fit and finish.
Cons: suspension is made of memory foam, numb steering, big (hence a monumental turning radius)
The Bottom Line: An excellent car for those prioritizing safe, comfortable and economical transportation. Be warned - you may fall in love.

I will start off this review of my 1996 Toyota Camry by saying I didn't want to like the car. It was acquired due to circumstances out of my control (I smashed my Jetta!) and this beige whale came into my possession with much angst and overall ... read more

At age 57 I've owned and driven everything from a '64 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder to 3 different model Cadillacs, a vintage (1954) Corvette, every model VW made up through the 70's both new and used, a new Chevrolet Vega (remember them?), a few pickup ... read more

Mixed feelings about my Camry

by
Mar 15, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very comfortable ride, roomy. Plenty power, even if you get a 4 cylinder.
Cons: Transmission and engine
The Bottom Line: Only recommend if you add fan to transmission and only use Synthetic oil when car is new. I believe would be an excellent car if you do these two things.

I did all my homework before buying my new 1996 Camry. I read all of the reviews, and I even took a vacation in a rental. The 4 cylinder had plenty power, but I bought the 6 cylinder because it was suppose to have a much better transmission. You ... read more

The Bottom Line: Excellent Reliability! Trouble Free. Need more power? Get the Camry V6.

My parents give this 1996 Toyota Camry LE 2.2L to me as my first car, after I graduated from High School in 2004. They bought it in 2003 for $5,000 cash. At that time, it had 90,000 miles. It was a base model, no power seats, CD player, sunroof, or ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: This car will not DIE!
Cons: The engine may be solid, but the doorhandles aren't!
The Bottom Line: This car has changed my opinion of foreign cars. I don't think I'd want anything other than a Toyota again.

I acquired my '96 Camry about two years ago. It came standard with my boyfriend. His great-aunt and uncle had purchased it brand new and fully loaded with every option except for leather and climate control. They drove it for about a year and a half, ... read more

Jan 7, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Handling, Comfort, Styling, Mileage
Cons: Frozen Locks, Stereo
The Bottom Line: I would go out and by another Camry or Toyota, any day.

This has to be one of the best made cars ever! My Camry is a DX Green Coupe with 67,000 miles. The DX is the lower model, but it has an AWSOME 5-speed transmission that wasn't offered in the higher trim levels. I bought my car in October 2003, and it ... read more

Pros: Very solid, fun to drive, superb reliability!
Cons: None I know of.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the Camry to absolutely everyone simply because it is so wonderful to own a car I can trust.

I have owned my 1996 Camry XLE for over 2 years now and I have to say it has been my favorite. Prior to this car I have owned a Geo Prism, Nissan Stanza, and Honda Civic. Not only is this Camry superior in quality, but it has excellent leg and head ... read more

Great Car

by
Jul 27, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, Comfortable, Smooth
Cons: Many Toyota Dealerships Horrible
The Bottom Line: If you are considering a Camry, go for it. It may be a little more expensive now, but it will prove a much better buy later.

The 1996 Camry is the last in its generation before moderately changing designs for the 97-01 yrs. The 1996 has a bunch of nice features and is very reliable. My Camry is a 4 cylinder which drives competently. At times, I wished it was a V6 but my 4 ... read more

Pros: Reliability, Value, Style, Life Expectancy
Cons: I can't think of a con, sorry.
The Bottom Line: Toyota vehicles are very dependable and hold their resale value. I have not found any vehicle with more comfort, dependability or reliability. It's a dream car.

I bought this car used in December of 98 with 28,000 miles on it, loaded with options. It's up to 77,000 miles now and I have not had one problem with it. Everything works as well now as the first day I bought it. Very comfortable on long trips, moves ... read more

Jul 24, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: plenty of room, looks nice, quiet, quality of product.
Cons: price
The Bottom Line: I went from a Ford Tempo to my wonderful Camry.. best decision I could have made!

I have owned my 1996 Toyota Camry for almost 3 years. I went from the unavoidable "Beeter car" (Ford Tempo) that every teenager must suffer through to my Camry. Although the Camry isn't exactly what a 21 year old is looking for, I found it to be a ... read more

Although I don't own a Camry, I worked at a repair shop for 2 years. I will tell you this, if you can't afford a Lexus, the Toyota Camry is the next best thing. I've worked on a number of Camry's while I was at the repair shop. The car is a dream car. ... read more

A Mixed Bag for Me Personally - Should be a relatively good car for others

by
Jun 3, 2001 - Updated Aug 3, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: Very low noise level, very high comfort level.
Cons: Mechanical problems abound
The Bottom Line: It's a good car, but not for me.

Back in 1996 I painstakingly spent 6 months worth of weekends shopping for my first car. In the consumeristic society of America, we obviously are interested in items that suit our personality within our physical and financial means. In order to ... read more

Cons: 4-cylinder a little low on power
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this car. I feel it is an excellent value for the price.

I bought this car used with 21,000 miles on it when I started having problems with my Lincoln. This is a very fun car to drive and appears to be very well put together. I average about 28 to 30 miles per gallon, maybe a little low, but I am satisfied ... read more

Cons: Single disk CD player skips
The Bottom Line: This car will last forever and take you anywhere.

We have a Toyota Camry V6 and I absolutely adore this car. It's very practical, yet luxurious. We chose the single disk CD player, leather interior, and a sunroof. It came with the option of having two power front seats, but we just have one for the ... read more

Cons: Alignment

I found my '96 Camry V6 LE used in the fall of 1998 while I was interviewing for medical school in Dallas. And it was a GREAT find. It's a V6 LE, 2 toned (haven't seen very many of these), spoiler, leather, cd player w/ upgraded factory ... read more
