by kupolo

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fast, styling, handling, It's a BMW
Cons: Terrible in the snow
The Bottom Line: Don't miss this car!!

Just picked up a '97 coupe with 60K miles for $18,500. No repairs to speak of. With the new E46 M3 coming out in 2001, the price on the older E36 (1995-99) has fallen a bit. Now the only thing you have to worry about is how much it costs to insure one...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: damn fine car for the money
Cons: the door panels fail, and the ignition switch brakes
The Bottom Line: For a 10yr old car, I don't think I could have bought better, for even twice the money.

I expected to read complaints about the m3, but instead I read good reviews. To me I've had over 300 cars, from 70's hotrods to 60 bmw's. For the money I can't find anything better, It's like owing a cheap Ferrari, no brag just fact. The m3 handles like ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Classic BMW styling, wolf in sheep's clothing.
Cons: Hard to find in good shape, people abuse this car because it is so fast.
The Bottom Line: One of the best sport sedans ever built.

When I graduated college in 1997, I said I will own a '97 M3 one day. I also said I'd own a '97 911 Turbo, but that day hasn't come yet! While the 911 Turbo took ostentatious to a new level, the M3 perfectly represented what I wanted in a sports car: ...

I have a 1997 Estoril Blue M3 coupe with black leather and the luxury package that has 44,000 miles on it. I have every possible option except for the rear wing spoiler which I dont like very much. I recently purchased this car from a lady at work ...

Cons: STUPID "M3" RAINBOW ON SEATS, NO 6thGear, No Intermittent Wipers, Lame US OBDII computer
The Bottom Line: BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!

I have owned a number of performance cars, raced and driven many more, all I can say is hands down this is the best blending of performance and comfort I have ever found. My 944 Turbo S with $20,000 in race upgrades was a little quicker/faster and could...

Bavarian Rocket Ship

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Stellar acceleration, handling, and stopping power. Style.
Cons: Lousy Cup Holders, Terrible Sounding Stereo.
The Bottom Line: If you love performance, buy this car. If you are a passive driver, save your money and get an Acura 3.2 TL or a BMW 325 or 328i.

I wanted a four door sedan for accessibility that still packs a powerful performance punch. I desired a luxurious, well engineered sedan with some status built in to the package.

I considered the Saab 9.5 Viggen, the Audi Quattro sedan...

A true wolf in a sheep's clothing

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A Velvet Hammer
Cons: None to speak of
The Bottom Line: As you drive off with that seemingly endless powerband giving off that beautiful exhaust note while powering through corner after corner, you'll be glad you bought a BMW M3.

I am not sure how well you know the history of these wonderful cars, but perhaps I can be of some service.

The M3's were primarily built as race cars a few decades ago. The M stands for Motorsport, which is BMW's racing division. Since...

Pros: Appearance, acceleration, braking, handling, quality, feel
Cons: Road rage target, weak cup holders, no auto trunk release
The Bottom Line: It rocks!

I have a bright red 1997 BMW M3 4-Door, with "modena" tan interior. It has a 5-speed manual and a single option; the on-board computer. It now has 23,000 miles on it. I just purchased it recently because it's been my dream car forever and the lease on...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: handles very good
Cons: the heated seats can get too warm
The Bottom Line: this is a very good high performance street car

Although I am only 17, I have had the chance to drive and autocross an M3. I really like them, I want a new 2001 when I get the $65,000. This car(1997) handles very well, and it responds well to quick adjustments and quick steering patterns used for...

Husband talked me into it

by flbeachgirl
Feb 25 '01

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun to drive, handles well in heavy rain, deceiving appearance, and it's a guy magnet
Cons: Governors
The Bottom Line: This car has exceeded my expectations and is the reason people get on lists years before the new models are delivered.

When my husband and I were looking into purchasing a new vehicle, we stopped by our local BMW dealership. He was convinced that I would prefer the luxury of a 5 or 7 series over the M series (which was his preference). After test driving 3 different...

Gotta love M power!

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Acceleration, Image, Handling, Braking, Suspension, Driver comfort, climate controls
Cons: Price
The Bottom Line: The M3 is a driver's car. It's built for the thrill of driving. Those who prefer to drive boats need not apply.

The BMW M3 is truly a driver's car. Everything about, from the seat to the climate controls, tells you it is somehow tailored to being a "driver's car."

Here's my usual breakup for a car review.

The Drive:
This car simply...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent performance
Cons: Minimal creature comforts

I leased a 1997 BMW M3 for three years. Without a doubt, this is the finest automobile I have owned to date.

The quality of the fit and finish of this vehicle was superb, save for slightly mis-aligned rubber interior window trim, however I...

you can get a ferrari for a 150,000 dollars and the skid plate turning is 0.92 gs, however why not get an m3 it also has .92 and its much more reliable, I own a m3 sedan 1997 and its a total race car in disguise. it has 33,000 miles and has no...

I've been driving a 1997 M3 for a little over 3 years now. I bought the car because, well, because I took one for a test drive. As you've probably heard, it's a fantastic car to drive.

Basically everything about the performance is...
