Pros: good mileage, low maintenance, reasonable price Cons: Not for a large family
We have had our Contour a year and a half now. We wanted a small family car, front wheel drive, and a standard transmission. When we saw this Contour on the lot-the last standard in it's class-we loved the look. When we saw what it offered inside we...

Pros: Drives confidently in any condition! Cons: Small backseat not good for carseats & leaky trunk
In October of 1997 my husband(boyfriend at the time)and I decided to look into buying a new car. We new that we wanted a Ford Vehicle and that the compact sized car would well fit our needs, but we both wanted something that handled nice and appeared...

Pros: Affordable Cons: Recalled about every known part on the car
All righty then... So you have heard some good things about the Ford Contour, well then I guess you live a pretty sheltered life then. My husband and I were shopping for an affordable car when we came across the new 1997 Contour at our local auto...

Pros: Dependable, reasonably priced Cons: None
I have a 1997 Contour SE Sport. I bought this car because I'm not really into cars all that much. I really wanted a car that looks decent, was a reasonable price, and was dependable. All of my needs have been met with this car.
It isn't a...

Pros: Looks Nice Cons: Will never run properly
In 1998 I bought a 1997 Contour. It was a previous rental, and I did not think there would be a big difference from buying new. It was a nice looking car and it had a lot of features in it such as power locks, tilt, and cruise. The car was wonderful for...

Pros: little but fast engine, nice stereo, Cons: lacks power and Ford Dealership warranties suck
The Ford Contour is a nice, roomy, little sports car that won't sack you in the wallet. It's got the option of a sporty engine, still small liters for good gas mileage, a 2.5 liter V-6 under the hood that packs a little kick behind the pedal. It has a...

Pros: Medium size, fuel economy, general comfort Cons: noisy engine, body integrity, lack of confidence The Bottom Line: We're happy we no longer own this car.
Last year, my wife needed a newer car than the '85 Buick she was driving. I had read reviews and information about the Contour touting it as a pretty good all around car. I was worried about crash-worthiness though. If I remember correctly, the...

Pros: good price Cons: none that I have found
I bought this vehicle for my daughter who was 16 at the time of purchase. I bought a 1997, it had a great price and the warranty was still in effect. It had 16,000 miles on it. The minor things that went wrong were taken care of my Ford with no problems...

Pros: Supportive seats, ease of operation, fuel economy, aesthetically pleasing, audio system capability. Cons: Electrical/exhaust system failures, engine size, horsepower, constantly in the shop, unreliable. The Bottom Line: Save yourself some money. These cars look pretty, but that's as far as it goes. Go with a different vehicle.
I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with a car. I bought this car because of being financially limited. Obviously, my luck with it confirms that it's a very bad reason to choose a particular car. Don't get me wrong, I had other choices. ...

Pros: Great handling, fun to drive, good value for today's market. Cons: Not easy to work on, watch out for wiring harness problems. The Bottom Line: Ford's abandoned child is still a hit in Europe. What do they know that we don't?
The Ford Contour was intended to be Ford's first crack at a "world car", i.e. a car that could be designed and produced with the goal of only minor changes for markets across the globe. It wasn't a resounding success in this, but what did come of it was ...

Pros: Fun to Drive Cons: Always in Shop The Bottom Line: Fun to drive, but extremely poor build quality hampers this vehicle.
Bought a 1997 Contour Sport V6 5-speed with 58,000 miles on the odometer in 2000. Thought I got a good deal. I was wrong.
This car came completely loaded - power everything, leather interior, fog lights, etc. Unfortunately, this car proved to...

Pros: Excellent driving and sound system Cons: Noises from dash and center console
I originally bought my 1997 with 25,000 miles Contour because it looked real nice ,and it was very comfortable. About a year or so later I started getting noises from the dash, center console and some near the rear window. I have always loved Ford and...

Pros: Decent handling. Cons: Brakes, engine, reliability, materials quality, sensors failing, check engine light. The Bottom Line: Ford is really letting down its small/mid-sized sedan customers by not giving them the combination of performance and reliability commonly found only in modern import cars.
This is probably a dangerous time to write a review since my check engine light just came on again, but I have finally been provoked to dole out some public disdain for the current sedan offerings from Ford, especially after a recent spike in expensive...

Pros: Reliable,Roomy,Handles well, power Cons: none that I can find
We started looking for a new vehicle, when our 1990 Acclaim started smoking and burning about a quart of oil a week. The repairs would have cost more than the car was worth, so we started our search. There are only 3 of us, so we didn't need anything big....
