Pros: reliable, great on gas
Cons: foggy headlights, sorry windshield wipers, bad ac/heater conection--distrubing car colours.?
The Bottom Line: Its a good buy.....can't wait till they return...in 2011

This car, like any has both cons and pros-but We--well I like it. The kids are embarrassed about the colour - blue teal but I think its cool. They call it a "soccer mom's" car. I have a 91 Ford Escort lx and although its just a phone call ... read more

Pros: Great, reliable car
Cons: They're RIGHT about the cupholders!
The Bottom Line: A reliable car for the long haul.

UPDATE: But NOT after 187,000 Thought I should probably update this to say that Ye Olde Escort bit the dust last week. Verdict was that she wasn't firing on all four cylinders (which sounds like me on given days!) There were warning signs ... it had ... read more

Pros: good gas mileage, factory speakers sound great.
Cons: If you buy one make sure the airbag recall thing has been fixed
The Bottom Line: It has been a great car,I would buy one again.

Before I got this car at a police auction, I did not have a good opinion of ford cars. Because I have known them to break down often. I could not help it, when I seen that car on the auction lot I had to have it. It is the first ... read more

Pros: long list!
Cons: noisy cab on high way....
The Bottom Line: Long list of pros and not so many cons, so i would recommend this car pretty much for students and beggingers.... its cheap purchase and to fill with gas

When I had my sweet 16 party I made off with a lot of money....well 2,600 to be exact... But I had to purchase my car.... I purchased the 1997 Ford Escort used from a little old lady. For like 2,000.. This was in the year 2003 or 2004... I still drive it ... read more

Jun 1, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Economy, fun to drive with the manual, comfortable ride
Cons: For this Escort: NONE! The Con is for Ford because they quit making them!
The Bottom Line: Obviously if you're reading this review you are considering a used Escort. If the car was reasonably well taken care you are looking at a good, dependable used car.

My '97 Escort had 72K on it when I bought it 3 years ago April. It just turned over 170K yesterday and it essentially drives exactly the same way as it did when I bought it. It's not a sports car, but it handles nicely. I'm glad I got the manual ... read more

Pros: Great ride, dependable, comfortable and easily affordable.
Cons: exterior styling, weak pedal feel.
The Bottom Line: Road trip!!!!11111

When temperatures exceed 110 degrees in the phoenix arizona summer, selling the no frills vinyl seat equipt hot-rod for something a little more modest, conservative, and down right comfortable isn't such a bad idea. Thats right guys. Much to the dismay ... read more

Not very technical opinion--- if you are looking for that other people would probably have that covered. I had driven my parent's car and needed to get my own back in December 2002. I searched through online ads and even ebay (see my epinion on EBAY! ... read more

Dec 8, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Durable, fuel efficient, vehicle, which can last well into the 200,000 mile range.
Cons: Poor AC/Heating design that allows moisture into the unit, causing damage.
The Bottom Line: Durability, Few shop repairs, high mileage stability, and very good gas mileage, make the 1997 Ford Escort Wagon a top pick.

I purchased the Ford Escort Wagon in 1997 to use as a delivery vehicle for a publishing company. This escort wagon would be loaded with 500-700 pounds of published material, and then driven to 100-150 locations, along a 200 - 350 mile route, all in ... read more

Jul 18, 2004 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power mirrors, peppy w/87K miles, great that seats fold down, carry very long items
Cons: dash interferes w/holding cups. too many spills, 18 to 24 mpg last 5 years
The Bottom Line: Buy this car if you have the chance. I've been searching for another with low miles. I will buy it again in a heartbeat.

When it was new, I used to get 28 to 36 mpg fuel economy. On one trip to Valdez, I got 43 MPG. The wind was with us. For the last 5 years, that has been around 18 to 24 on average. I don't do much highway anymore. She has 87K miles and runs tired now. I ... read more

Escort 4DR is a smart buy for 17 year olds and smart drivers

Jan 21, 2003 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Economical, reliable, roomy sedan can reasonably seat 5 adults, heater and A/C work quickly
Cons: Loud going above 70mph, small engine, minor electric problems, CD installation kit
The Bottom Line: For the reliability factor and inexpensiveness compared to foreign counterparts, the Escort is a great value. I would recommend it to drivers of all ages, especially college aged road trippers

The precursor to the highly touted Ford Focus, the Escort is a small, economical car. My 1997 Escort is a 4DR with a small engine but can really crank out the gas mileage. Even today, with 50,000 miles I average around 29-30 miles a gallon. I have ... read more

Pros: great car! too much to list separately!
Cons: cup holders, springs, can't replace radio
The Bottom Line: I love my baby! There are a few low points... but for the price you can't get better, or even close, with anything else!

Well.. I have now had my car for about six months. I have been terribly satisfied the whole time. First off, I got a great deal (I didn't go to a Ford dealership, and opted, instead, to shop at a Chevy dealership to get a deal on a used car they didn't ... read more

Despite the fact that the year-old 1997 Escort I bought had been a rental before, it has been very reliable for me. Brakes are good, steering is tight, no leaks, no rattles, no smoke. I've never had to make a significant repair. And it still looks good, ... read more

Pros: Reliable little runaround
Cons: Doesn't look great
The Bottom Line: good car

I bought it 12 months ago, and despite being an E reg it's still going strong. OK, so it doesn't have fancy gadgets to make the seats move, or electric windows etc, but as a little runaround it's excellent. It doesn't use petrol like it's going out ... read more

The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car to a young family just starting out. It has good gas mileage, it handles nice and is reliable.

I bought my Ford Escort just under a year ago and I am very happy with it. I have put 80,000 kilometers on it since (long commute) and have had no problems with it. It of course has great gas mileage with it's 2.0L 4 cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual ... read more

Jul 7, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Roomy trunk ; Great gas mileage ; Low-maintenance ; Handles well in bad weather
Cons: Rear seat passengers don't have much foot room ; Cab noise loud on highway.
The Bottom Line: If you've got a small family this is a great car. You'll be safe and virtually headache free with this wonderful car. This IS NOT the Escort your grandma had!

I didn't think I would have to get a new car so soon and I love my Escort. But we are expecting again and have no choice. I purchased my 4-door escort used in August of 1998 when I was expecting my second child. I had started out looking for ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price/Value, Low Maintenance, Rides like a lux. Car
Cons: Backseat area a little small
The Bottom Line: The value for the buck is here.It might not be "Jazzy or Hip" to drive a Escort/wagon but it is practical.

We bought our 1997 Wagon a few months ago. (2001) We went looking for it after returning from a tour in Japan. We had owned a 1993 Wagon (bought new) and loved it. We had owned it for almost 4 years and it killed us to have to sell it. We noticed ... read more
