Pros: Sporty ride, nice visibility, good off-road ability Cons: gas mileage, interior space, bed space The Bottom Line: My truck has been faithful to me for 5 years. I would reccomend this as a quality truck that most likely will not let you down.
I love my 1997 Splash. I have owned it since it was a newborn, and even specified its exact build. However, it is not without its problems (afterall, it is, ahem, a Ford...). Here is what I think.
THE BASICS
My truck is 4WD, with...

Pros: Good price; nice features; decent gas mileage Cons: Some recent mechanical issues The Bottom Line: is that the 1997 Ford Ranger has provided a relatively dependable ride with occasional mechanical problems.
Purely Physical
Originally I fell in love with the looks of the truck. The side steps, the sliding rear window, the emerald green paint job, the plush front seats, the little cupholders, and of course the awesome stereo system.

Pros: Dependable. Low Load/Liftover Height.Reasonable Fuel Economy. Very Good For City Delivery. Cons: Some Squeaks/Rattles. No Guts With Full Load And AC.Lousy winter traction w/OEM tires. The Bottom Line: Great for city delivery. Not bad for commuting. Great buy used.Japanese trucks way more expensive; GM too "cheap".
In late October 1997, the '84 Plymouth Voyager that at one time was the family's "good car" but was by then relegated to commuter/ hauler of things too gross to put on the good carpeting in the good Caravan, was stolen. I never took full coverage ...

Pros: AFFORDABLE, DURABLE, GOOD TOW RATIO, LOTS OF BED SPACE, FEW REPAIRS NEEDED Cons: LITTLE INTERIOR CAB STORAGE, JACK THE SIZE OF A CROWBAR, AUTO CHK ENG IRRITATING The Bottom Line: I think it is great and recommend it. Reasons for recommending it is a low maintenance (standard main. needed regularly) study little tuck and good value for the money.
I bought my 97 Ford Ranger XLT new way back in 97 and still have it today! Since I purchased it I have had the following fixed: 1. 2 Sets of new tires 2. 1 Set of new brakes & pads 3. 1 Battery (only went bad last year 2003, which according to ...

Pros: Solid, reliable, easy-to-handle compact truck; good interior design. Cons: None so far. The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a good, solid, small truck, I doubt you will be unhappy with a Ranger.
I had a few pickup trucks, years ago, but somehow found myself driving an imported compact sedan for the past five years. This year, I decided to trade that vehicle in and get back into a small truck. I read countless reviews online (many right here)...

Pros: Good Stereo System, Tight Turn Arc, Good Ventilation System Cons: Poor Acceleration, Poor Suspension, Rough Amenities, Lacks MUSCLE, Unsafe The Bottom Line: This truck gets me from here to there. But, when I get there, I kiss the ground because I didn't die along the way!
My wife and I lease a 1997 FORD RANGER XLT. She absolutely LOVES it, but I wish I could drive it off a cliff.
When we purchased the truck in February 1997, it was a very sturdy truck, with power and comfort all together. However, after only...

Pros: Very basic, reliable, and practical; looks good; holds its value Cons: V-6's gas mileage isn't great, hard to drive non-4x4 without weight in the bed The Bottom Line: I recommend buying it because it is practical and reliable
I bought this truck new in 1996 because I wanted an inexpensive truck with basic features. My vehicle has a V-6 engine, extended cab, automatic transmission, and is not a 4X4. My truck now has about 73,000 miles and I am still pleased with it.

I'm 6'4" and own a '97 Ranger XL Regular cab pickup. I give the truck a rating of 5 stars because it is perfect for someone who wants what my particular truck has to offer. That being said I would buy a truck with different options/features and...

Pros: All around great truck. Cons: Developed chasis-body elec. problems
I bought my ranger new after driving a few of the competing models. I now have 113,000 miles on it and on balance, I don't regret it. It is more comfortable on longer hauls than any of the others, especially for taller folk. It also has the most...

Pros: Fuel mileage is decent, durability is good if maintained. Cons: Cramped if you're a 6 footer!
Lacks acceleration... The Bottom Line: This wouldn't be my first choice in small a P/U. However I would buy one if the price were right and the truck was in GOOD condition.
I bought my 97 Ranger in 2000 and must say that overall it has been a good vehicle. My two major gripes are the cabspace and lack of acceleration. On a short trip (10 Min.) the Truck is fine, after that you'll start squirming and trying to stretch your...
