The Bottom Line: Buying American has its perks too.

The 1995 Galant I have driven for the last three years died on me this past January, Due to its oil burning and slow decline in compression over time not to mention its 211K on the clock, I sent her to her final resting place and I ... read more

Pros: High-Powered engine Extremely comfortable interior Sleeper status (quick but doesn't look it)
Cons: Guaranteed to Have: Transmission problems & Camshaft slippage if not welded

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: reliability, spacious
Cons: car feels low to the ground, brake problems
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this car and would do it again.

My parents bought me this car when I was in high school. They bought it in 1998, so someone else used it for a year prior. It is now 2007, and I am still driving this car. Overall, the car was a very good car. The only recurring problem that I can blame ... read more

Pros: Awesome power, great ride and comfort, lots of options standard.
Cons: Faulty camshafts, weak transmission, Interior quality is poor, and the laundry list....
The Bottom Line: Don't buy one unless you have the $ to spend repairing it!

I have had a 1997 Taurus SHO for less than a year. It is plagued with problems. I bought it with just over 88k on the clock and it now has 102k. I have had to replace a coil, and aside from that, the ac clutch slips, the SAI pump is malfunctioning, the ... read more

Pros: V8, well planned interior, 6disc player, dual exhaust with great sound, cult following
Cons: noisy center console, high labor costs, cams...
The Bottom Line: Consider this car is you want a powerful ride that is fun to drive, reliable, and good looking. It is a versitile vehicle and is well respected among enthusiasts.

My experieces with the 97 SHO have been great. Since I first got behind the wheel it was hard not to notice its abundance of power over the regular Taurus models. But that is only to be expected, for, under the hood sits a beautiful 3.5 liter V8 ... read more

The most dependable car I've ever owned!

by ktk3438
Feb 16, 2004 - Updated Jul 15, 2004 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Quality, comfort, mileage, handling
Cons: Tires from factory could be better for this model year
The Bottom Line: Great car for the money. It was relatively cheap compared to some imports I looked at and owned. And the quality was right up there with the best of them.

Let me start by explaining how I ended up with my Ford Taurus. It was June, 1998, and I was the owner of a 1995 Honda Civic, which I owned for only 9 months. That was the shortest time I’ve ever owned a new car. The seating in it was very rigid, and ... read more

Pros: Somewhat roomy, Above average factory sound, Somewhat reliable, Cheap to buy used.
Cons: Transmission, Cheap interior, Goofy stereo/ac/defrost cluster, Poor resale, etc.
The Bottom Line: Buy the car if you can handle the transmission troubles, otherwise spend a few more dollars and buy a Honda/Acura.

Pros: Fast, Fast, Fast!!!
Cons: Expensive to maintain...
The Bottom Line: If you want performance this is a great car, but be prepared for some pricy maintnance.

We purchased our 97 SHO Jan. 01 with 34K and in perfect shape. We decided not to opt for the additional warranty at $1300. Bad Choice, at 40K, just out of warranty, the tranny went out. After several phone calls to Ford (we buy company and personal ... read more

The Bottom Line: Buy a Toyota

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Safe, lots of space
Cons: Its not the really fast sports car I really want, but.....
The Bottom Line: A good safe car, but has no aftermarket performance parts

First off, let me say I am a 22 yr old married girl with a 3 year old son. I wanted a really fast car, something I could customize to look real hot. But, my husband wouldn't buy me what I wanted. He wanted the safest car around, so he bought a white ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: safe, comfortable, roomy trunk and interior
Cons: transmission problem, problems with fogging windshield
The Bottom Line: I am not sure I would recomend this vehicle, even at the price I paid in 2000 of $7k which was the best price I found locally.

I purchased this car used, and was happy with the deal that I got for it. I had read about the safety ratings, researched prices for various model. It was only after purchasing did I find out about the transmission problems that seem to happen often in ... read more

A Decent Family Car

Aug 8, 2002 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Comfortable, roomy front, stylish
Cons: wind/road noise, back seat room, flip down console
The Bottom Line: I would say this car is not a bad buy for it's class. It is comfortable, decent cargo space. Best with no more than 4 passengers.

We bought our 1997 Ford Taurus used this past November. We traded in a '94 Dodge Intrepid with 150,000 miles. Our daughter was due soon and we wanted a newer car with less miles but no high payments. The style is nice. The control panel is attractive ... read more

Jul 11, 2002 - Updated Aug 7, 2002 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: good power, excellent handling for size, reasonably comfortable and fairly inexpensive
Cons: fit & finish not up to the likes of ES300, SolaraSE, BMW and others
The Bottom Line: For the price I paid, I could have gotten more performance, more luxury, more room or better looks.....but not the balance of everything that this car has.

**UPDATE** we've now put over 3000 miles on the car and have a few updates and corrections to make; Handling The 'boatish' straightline handling and aggressive cornering manners wasn't a fluke, anomaly or caused by a long ... read more

May 15, 2002 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 30 Recommended: No

Pros: This car feels safe,a sedan with room that you can fit in compact parking spaces
Cons: not much power, car starts really falling apart after 75,000 miles
The Bottom Line: If your looking for a quality used Ford car buy a Crown Victoria they will last 4 times longer

We bought our 1997 Ford Taurus used in 1998. It had 10,000 miles on it and was the GL edition. Unfortunately we were looking forward to getting another Crown Victoria but none were in our price range. As a whole the car performs well. It started ... read more

Pros: LX - strong performance with high test gas
Cons: LX - on 3rd transmission after 40K miles
The Bottom Line: Be wary of transmission.

A funny story... in some ways... I bought the 97 Taurus LX in Feb 1999. It was the second Taurus I bought, and since it had the Duratec engine I really liked the better performance. For 7 days. A week after owning it the tranny went (25,000 ... read more

Pros: Roomy, dependable, flawless handling, engine is TOUGH! great family car,
Cons: body of car can easily be dented, poor paint quality, Gas-drainer!
The Bottom Line: I recommend it, because my car has been totalled before, and had a flooded engine. But i drive it today and it seems as if it were new!!

I own a salvage, rebuilt 1997 Ford Taurus that looks just like new. But on top of that, i flooded the damn thing accidently. This street was flooded big time, and i thought i could pass it, little did i know i had to have the car then be pulled to my ... read more
