Great fun for practically nothing.

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros:

Fun to drive, very manuverable, goes anywhere.

Cons: Not practical.
The Bottom Line: Great for what it's designed to do. Horrible for everything else

I sit there, and I laugh at those people typing negative Epinions about the Wrangler, better known as the TJ... I look at those people, and I say "then why did you get it?" It's like me saying, "my Honda civic is great, but it doesn't do a good ... read more

Mar 11, 2008 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun all around car, "Jeep Wave", Jeep community
Cons: constant fixes, poor gas milage
The Bottom Line: You have to be a Jeep person to want a Wrangler, but if you are, definitely go for it!

I cannot say how much I love driving my Jeep. I have a 1997, 4 cylinder, manual transmission Wrangler, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Of course there's always the hassle of owning an 11-year-old car, but that's half the fun of it. Yes the top ... read more

Q: What's so great about a Jeep?

by pclare
Jul 4, 2006 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: It's a Jeep.
Cons: The soft top redesign stinks, and the '97 overall is too carlike for a Jeep.
The Bottom Line: Please don't adopt a Jeep unless you're willing and able to give it the exercise, care, and lifestyle it needs to be happy. You'll be happier with a car anyway.

Q: What's so great about a Jeep? A: Everything. Q: But it's just a car, what's the big deal? A: It's not a car. It's a Jeep. Q: But the ride is so rough -- it's like a nonstop amusement park ride. A: Exactly. Q: Oh, come on, nobody could ... read more

Jun 14, 2005 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Fun, reliable, good city car
Cons: bad cd player, can't lock up large valuables
The Bottom Line: Buy it for a fun, reliable, and good car for the city.

I've had my '97 Jeep Wrangler for 3 years now and its been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Its not without its drawbacks, but the Jeep has proven to be what people think of when they think of jeeps, fun and rugged. One thing I think people ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: A great stylish vehicle. Resale value has to be unmatched.
Cons: Quality is questionable. Getting sick of repair after repair.
The Bottom Line: I would definitely buy one again. I should have waited to get a 2003 or newer. Don't skimp get all the options including the hard top.

I bought my Jeep Wrangler Sahara in the summer of 2004. I have wanted one for awhile but couldn't find one that fit my budget, being the fact that I am only a college student. After I bought it the problems started (for me at least). A month or so ... read more

Jan 16, 2005 (A Somewhat Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Blast to drive, strong, durable, and lot's of after market goodies!
Cons: Gas mileage, no real security with a soft top.
The Bottom Line: If you've never spent much time in one before, talk to other owners about any draw backs they've experienced.

I bought my Jeep last year, it is my second one I have owned, first was an 89 YJ. Jeep really did their homework on the new TJ's. Better redesigned instrument cluster, coil springs give it such a better ride than the old leaf springs, the top drops in ... read more

Nov 23, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 20 Recommended: No

Pros: Fun, Fun, Fun--nothing like a Jeep on the market
Cons: breakdowns all the time, mildew, 4cyl too weak to do much
The Bottom Line: I would never own another Jeep again because of the unreliability. Although fun, the Jeep vandalism and excessive repairs made the Jeep much less worth it.

I would have to say that I was VERY excited to be buying my '97 Jeep Wrangler SE soft top as a freshman in college. Well that was several years ago and I have had to have some real Jeepin' pain to learn my lesson. On the bright side, there is no ... read more

Jeep - It's a lifestyle. Not for everyone

by area52resident
Sep 23, 2004 (A Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Rugged, great off-road capability, convertible, sense of freedom. Women dig it everywhere you go.
Cons: Their jealous boyfriends.
The Bottom Line: It's a lifestyle vehicle. Not for the picky consumer type who wants everything that's not native to the Jeep.

The best thing about a Jeep is the soft top. Yes, many people complain about it. But it's really a blessing in disguise. Adapt your lifestyle to the Jeep instead of trying to transform the vehicle to suit your non-Jeep lifestyle. You will be glad. ... read more

Feb 11, 2004 - Updated Oct 17, 2006 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 40 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Strong drivetrain, versatile, classic look, great turning circle, holds value
Cons: Common, security for items in the vehicle, touch expensive, available in 2.5L version
The Bottom Line: If this little motor fits your life style and you like the look of it you'd be hard pushed to find anything better but buy the 4.0L

Last Year (2003) I finally gave up pouring money into my daily driver which started out as a toy, it was (is) a 1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite (in red). After almost 2 years and countless thousands I needed something that could handle the winter here ... read more

Pros: Taking the soft top down is great! Driving in mud and snow is a breeze!
Cons: Guzzles gas, Difficult to control on windy days, NOISY, Takes forever to heat up
The Bottom Line: Purchase this vehicle at your own risk!

I bought a '97 Wrangler Sport, automatic in the summer of 2002. For the entire summer I thought it was the best vehicle ever. But as time has gone on, I just want to get rid of it. To begin with, I live in Wisconsin where you can only have the soft ... read more

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Very free-spirited, off road capable vehicle.
Cons: Bad gas mileage.
The Bottom Line: The Jeep Wrangler is a great utilitarian vehicle. Want the look of an offroad vehicle but really isn't? Get one of the non-4X4 SUVs (aka minivans) on the market.

First off - this is a Jeep Wrangler, not a Grand Cherokee. It rides somewhat rough (not anywhere nea ... read more

Pros: Great off road prowess. Fun to drive.
Cons: Gas mileage. Loud. Rough Ride. I expected this however.
The Bottom Line: Do your research on what you want the vehicle to do before you purchase. Jeep people understand its small issues and they learn to love them.

I bought this Jeep used and have had good luck with it. Snow is never an issue or for that matter, most obstacles are not an issue. I had it on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes here in Michigan and got up most hills without result (could use a bit more power ... read more

Pros: All purpose, go anywhere, change the look in a minute vehicle
Cons: seating, but you didn't buy a jeep to haul people it's not a bus.
The Bottom Line: Final recommendation if your are a person that enjoys freedom and the feeling of the open road or off road than this vehicle is for you. Fun!

I have owned and driven jeeps since my youth, CJ, XJ, YJ and now TJ. The TJ has many new improvements over previous models. (Too many don't want to list all) the soft top is easy to get up and down now and the frame and structure of the top is ... read more

Pros: What did you expect from a Jeep? Fun, Power, and Durability.
Cons: Not enough money to buy more cool stuff for it!
The Bottom Line: Great if you know what you are getting. Rugged, stiff truck-like ride, 4 x 4 capabilities, and will survive wear and tear.

i had no idea that once i purchased my jeep wrangler sahara i would enter a secret society of jeep owners. everywhere i drive i get nods, thumbs up, and waves from my fellow wrangler and suprisingly enough cj drivers. maybe it is just my city? i ... read more

Pros: It's a Jeep! This vehicle is way too fun. I love everything about it.
Cons: bouncy ride, lots of road noise, poor mileage...but I still love this Jeep!!
The Bottom Line: Perfected over 60 years, full of fun, unlimited accessories, easy to repair, drives over anything, great looks. What more can I say? I love my Jeep!

First of all, this ain't no car. If you want a smooth ride, great fuel efficiency and zero road noise...save yourself the trouble and buy a car. The '97 Jeep Wrangler has many significant improvements over previous model years, but it is not a car. ... read more

Cons: a little time consuming making it a convertible.
The Bottom Line: A lot of fun for a reasonable price. Seems to hold its value well.

Our family just purchased a 97 Jeep Wrangler and are having a blast riding around in it. We have three kids 11, 9 and 7 so I installed an extra lap belt in the back. One thing I like about the Jeep is that all the equipment is very accessible. I can ... read more

Cons: For What It Is, There Are No Cons
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a fun, capable, four wheel drive vehicle then the Jeep is it.

JEEP - Just Empty Every Pocket

by mnphares
Mar 5, 2001 (A Very Helpful review)

Author's Product Rating: 50 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Simplistic design/Off-road capability
Cons: Not very practical/Gas guzzler
The Bottom Line: Remember - Wranglers are not "cars" and they will not handle like a car...they are fun, reliable and relatively comfortable, I love mine.

I have owned a total of four Jeeps in my lifetime. Having said this, it should be obvious that I have a definite love for them. This however does not imply that I think they are the best vehicles out on the road – or off. It is a niche vehicle and not ... read more
