Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Not many, but good on gas
Cons: The quality of the automobile is horrible

Well where should I begin. I have had my neon for about four years. And I have had nothing but problems from the beginning. The first problem was I had to have my engine mount replaced. Then came the wet floor, anytime it rained hard, my floor on the...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Price, Decent Sized interior
Cons: No Power, Very Unreliable, Engine Design is horrible
The Bottom Line: Overall, the Plymouth Neon is one of the worst cars I have ever seen or driven surpassed only by the Suzuki Swift. I would defiantly STAY AWAY from this car!!!

The 1997 Plymouth Neon is by far one of the worst cars I have ever seen or driven. Luckily I don't own one, but unfortunately my girlfriend does (hers is a 1996, but nothing has changed). Before I get into the specs of the neon let me tell you a little...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: good gas mileage
Cons: numerous noises, leaks, bad brakes

When I got my 97 neon, I was pretty excited. After all, it was my first car and I had always thought neons were cute. I was looking for something that would get good gas mileage and the size seemed perfect. However, when it rained one day shortly...

Worst Car Ever

Jan 23 '03 - Updated Jan 03 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Always seems to start instantly, only falls apart while driving.
Cons: Failed components: EGR-valve, O2 sensors, numerous gaskets, timing belt, alternator belt, ignition switch, brakes jammed!
The Bottom Line: The problems experienced on my Neon are becoming more common on other Chrysler products. Chrysler offers little or no help. Especially Paul Willison Plymouth Chrysler in Toronto Canada.

Bought brand-new in 97...after first six months dealer couldn't explain why engine light kept coming on. Found out by a private mechanic it was a leaky head gasket. Every six months after a major repair something else fails on the car. For all the ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Heater and rear defroster works well
Cons: squeaky brakes, air conditioner smells, weather stripping, paint, just about everything else

I originally purchased this vehicle because my mom had a friend and they liked theirs. I have been very dissatisfied with this product. It is the first Chrysler product that I have owned and would never own another. This car was bought brand new, with...

The Bottom of the Barrel

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Roomy interior, responsive steering and handling, smooth styling.
Cons: Mushy suspension, factory defects galore, poor reliability and safety record
The Bottom Line: The Dodge and Plymouth Neon are unsafe, unreliable, underpowered, and unimpressive automobiles that should be avoided at all costs.

A friend of mine owns a 1997 Plymouth Neon sedan and I recently had the opportunity to take it for a drive.

Inside the Neon you'll find a relatively easy to use dash, which is poorly fitted I might add. The seating position is very low and...

Pros: Peppy engine
Cons: Too many to list here
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this car to anyone unless you have a lot of extra $$ to spend on repairs.

I purchased my 1997 Plymouth Neon Coupe when I was 21 years old. I was excited as this was the first new car I had ever owned. I was attracted by the sporty look, peppy engine and low price.

I did some phone shopping to several dealers and...

Pros: fast, good pick up speed
Cons: everything else sucked

Both of my best friends owns 2 different years of Neon. The neon it self it's like plastics, can't take too much beating and you can not drive about 80 MPH, because the the whole car will shake.
The car is too thin, by that mean is that during in...

Pros: compact for parking, cab forward design creates a bigger feel.
Cons: quality issues all around, smelly air ducts, clunking from front suspension

intital quality for the Neon is good overall but after awhile it's true
colors come out. From the very first of ownership we noticed trim/weatherstripping quality issues that were fixed under warranty. Next came a faulty fuel pump that created a...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Strong engine
Cons: Noisy brakes, noisy steering, noisy manual transmission, windows don't seal

I purchased the 1997 "Expresso" 2 door Neon coupe for my girlfriend. I bought it used with about 50,000 miles on it. The engine is a 16 valve 4 cylinder, so it's quite peppy. The "Expresso" package gives the car the 16 valve engine,...

Regretfully, more minuses than pluses

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Good pickup, nimble handling, roomie for a compact
Cons: typical for brakes to squeal and for headgasket problems at 80,000 miles
The Bottom Line: If you HAVE to get a Neon look for the newer models. Hopefully, they will have ironed out some of the problems that plauged the 1997 models.

I bought my Neon Sedan new and drove it hard for 4 years putting about 84,000 miles on it.

I liked the engine pick-up and nimble handling of the car. You could really zip in and out of traffic with it in the city and on the highways.

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No

Pros: nice extras
Cons: safety

A friend of mine bought a 97 neon a while back I must admit it had a lot of nice features and the price was reasonable enough. If it were only that I would recommend this car to anyone.

However, my friend had an accident in this car he...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Cute, affordable if you take care of it
Cons: Dents easily, probably not that safe

I bought my Neon because I thought they were cute from the moment they came out! And it was the only car that I could afford to buy brand new - at least one that I would drive. Right after I bought the car, I was a little worried that I would have all of...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: fun to drive, comfy seats, interior laid out well
Cons: head gasket, awful weatherstripping on windows and trunk
The Bottom Line: depends on car condition and owner's tolerance for little problems. Still better than a Geo :P

I bought this car as one of my "first" cars. I've had it going on 5 years and up until recently, it ...
